Improved Torque Calculation of High Speed Permanent Magnet Motor with Compressor Loads Using Measured Power Factor Angle and Analytical Circuit Parameters

  • Difficulty of torque measurements in high-speed permanent magnet (HSPM) motors has necessitated the development of improved torque calculations. Hence, this paper presents an analytical torque calculation of a high speed permanent magnet (HSPM) motor based on the power factor angle. On the basis of analytical magnetic field solutions, the equations for circuit parameters such as back-emf and synchronous inductance are derived analytically. All analytical results are validated extensively by non-linear finite element (FE) calculations and measurements. The internal angle (${\delta}$) between the back-emf and the phase current is calculated according to the rotor speed by using analytical circuit parameters and the measured power factor because this angle is not measured but estimated in case of sensorless drive of the HSPM motor, significantly affecting torque calculation. Finally, the validity of the torque analysis method proposed in this paper is confirmed, by showing that the torque calculated on the basis of the internal angle is in better agreement with the measurements.

  • This paper presents a synchronous reluctance motor drive for maximum torque to current (MTC) considering magnetic saturation. Measured d-axis and q-axis inductances are used to obtain current angle vs. maximum torque curve using torque equation. Maximum torque to current control is achieved by the current angle and stator current for maximum torque from the current angle vs. maximum torque curve at a given torque reference.

  • The torque of SRM depends on phase current and the derivative of inductance. But the inductance of SRM is nonlinearly changed according to rotor position angle and phase current because of saturation in magnetic circuit. Therefore this has a concern in torque ripple and speed variation, and it is difficult to control the desired torque The torque of SRM depends on phase current and the derivative of inductance. This paper proposes an optimization control scheme by adjusting both the turn-on and turn-off angle according to high efficiency points which are simulated by GA-Neural Network, which is used to simulate the reasonable switching angle which is nonlinearly varied with rotor speed and load.

  • This paper presents a driving method of 3-phase 4-poles SRM(switched reluctance motor) drived by switching angle control. In this study, the switching angle is determined from approximated analysis and computer simulation by using MATLAB for high efficiency according to the speed and torque required by load, and then microcontroller controls the switching angle of asymmetrical inverter in SRM driver. Also, we experiment the maximum forque driving and maximum power driving by controlling switching angle available to electric vehicle.

  • In this paper, we calculated permanent magnetic linkage flux ${\psi}_{\alpha}$ and Ld, Lq parameters of IPMSM and compared two model which has different barrier width. IPMSM has two kinds of torque that reluctance torque and magnetic torque. In constant torque region, using the Maxwell stress tensor method, we calculated the torque and current phase angle ${\beta}$ which has appeared maximum torque. In weakening flux region, we calculated the current phase angle ${\beta}$ which flux ${\psi}_o$ lower than limited flux ${\psi}_{omax}$. From the current phase angle ${\beta}$, we calculated torque by torque equation and compared two model characteristic.

  • This paper presents the switching angle and voltage for maximizing torque of 4-phase 6-poles SRM. The switching angle and voltages was determined through the approximated analysis and computer simulation by using SIMULINK according to the speed and torque required by load but we used new analytic equation from maximum torque characteristic And then one-chp micro-controller controls the switching angle and voltage of an asymmetrical inverter in the SRM driver. Also we expects that this method reduce micro-controller load and realize approximated real time control

An approximate method for aerodynamic optimization of horizontal axis wind turbine blades

  • This paper presents a theoretical method to deal with the aerodynamic performance and pitch optimization of the horizontal axis wind turbine blades at low wind speeds. By considering a blade element, the functional relationship among the angle of attack, pitch angle, rotational speed of the blade, and wind speed is derived in consideration of a quasi-steady aerodynamic model, and aerodynamic loads on the blade element are then obtained. The torque and torque coefficient of the blade are derived by using integration. A polynomial approximation is applied to functions of the lift and drag coefficients for the symmetric and asymmetric airfoils respectively, where specific expressions of aerodynamic loads as functions of the angle of attack (which is a function of pitch angle) are obtained. The pitch optimization problem is investigated by considering the maximum value problem of the instantaneous torque of a blade as a function of pitch angle. Dynamic pitch laws for HAWT blades with either symmetric or asymmetric airfoils are derived. Influences of parameters including inflow ratio, rotational speed, azimuth, and wind speed on torque coefficient and optimal pith angle are discussed.

  • Mutual torque ripple in a brushless DC motor is the main source of acoustic noise, especially fur motor operation with high speed and torque. This paper presents a method to obtain mutual torque ripple to identify acoustic noise source. Mutual torque ripple can be determined by analyzing phase current shape and magnetic circuit with different lead angles. Current shape is determined by state space model of voltage equation with the use of inductance calculated by FEM, and confirmed by experimental results. Mutual torque ripple is also determined by FEM analysis for the calculated current shape. Acoustic noise experiment reveals that mutual torque ripple with different lead angle is one of the main sources for noise generation in a brushless DC motor.

  • SRM 토크는 인덕턴스 프로파일과 전류에 의해 발생한다. 발생한 SRM 토크는 전류제어시 turn-off 각을 제어함으로써 최대화 할 수 있고, 본 논문에서는 최소자승법을 이용하여 구한 함수를 통해 Turn-off 각을 제어할 수 있는 방안을 제안하였다. 시뮬레이션은 3상 6/4극 SRM을 대상으로 하였고, 제안한 방법에 의해 최대 평균토크가 됨을 시뮬레이션을 통해 증명하였다.

  • This research investigates experimentally and numerically the tilting angle, eccentricity ratio, flying height of axial direction, friction torque, and critical mass of the HDD disk-spindle system due to HDD positioning angle. The tilting angle and the eccentricity ratio are the maximum when the HDD positioning angle is $90^{\circ}$ respect to horizontal position because the external force in radial direction and the torque applied to the rotating part are the maximum when the HDD positioning angle is $90^{\circ}$. The flying height increases with the increase of the HDD positioning angle because the direction of gravity applied to the rotating part changes. The friction torque increases with the increase of the HDD positioning angle until it becomes $60^{\circ}$, and decreases with the increase of the HDD positioning angle after it becomes $60^{\circ}$. The stability is the maximum when the HDD positioning angle is $90^{\circ}$.
