  • A new PF correction topology, Improved Valley Fill (IVF) with Valley Boost Converter (VBC) used in the electronic ballast for fluorescent lamp is presented. The IVF can adjust the valley voltage higher than half the peak line voltage. Hence, there is no pulsating line current around the line voltage peak, PF and THD are significantly improved. The VBC is added to the IVF to achieve unity PF and to increase the valley voltage. The measured PF and THD for a prototype electronic ballast are 0.997 and 5%, respectively, and the lamp current CF is as low as 1.5

  • A novel AC to DC PWM converters with unity input power factor are proposed to overcome the above shortcoming. The main function of these converters is to shape the input line current to force it exactly in phase with the input AC voltage. Therefore, the input power factor can be improved to near unity and the input current harmonics can be eliminated. In this paper, half-bridge converter with two active switches and two diodes are utilized for low-cost type UPS configuration. By having only two semiconductors in the current path at any time, losses can be reduced over the conventional boost topology. Also, this converter provides controllable dc-link voltage, high power factor, and low cost type converter by simple power circuits. Simulation results show that the proposed half-bridge converter/inverter control technique can be applied to single-phase low-cost type UPS systems successfully.

  • This paper proposes new single stage power factor correction (PFC) full bridge converter. The proposed converter is combined previous ZVS full bridge DC/DC converter with two inductors, two diodes, two magnetic coupling transformer for PFC. This process of power is isolated from the source and also regulate stable DC output voltage in a category. In this topology, the voltage stress of main switches is reduced by zero voltage switching. Moreover, the proposed converter doesn't need active PFC switch and auxiliarly circuits, like control and gating board, so it could decrease the size and cost and increase the efficiency.

  • A single-stage high-power-factor electron ic ballast operating in critical conduction mode is presented in this paper. The proposed topology is based on integration of a boost-like converter and a LCC Type half-bridge serial resonant inverter. The power-factor-correction(PFC) stage is a boost-like converter operating in critical conduction mode for positive and negative half cycle voltage respectively at line frequency (60Hz) so that a high power factor is achieved naturally. The simulated and experimental results for 100w fluorescent lamps operating at 42kHz switching frequency and 220V line voltage have been obtained.

  • The CCM (Continuous Conduction Mode) boost topology is generally used in the PFC (Power Factor Correction) regulator of household air-conditioning systems. There are three kinds of power devices-bridge rectifier diodes, FRDs (Fast Recovery Diodes), and IGBTs (or MOSFETs) - used In a boost PFC regulator. Selecting the appropriate device is very cumbersome work, specially, in the case of FRDs and IGBTs, because there are several considerations as described below: 1) High frequency leakage current regulation (conducted and radiated EMI regulation) 2) Power losses and thermal design 3) Device cost. It should be noted that there are trade-offs between the power loss characteristic of 2) and the other characteristics of 1) and 3). This paper presents a detailed evaluation by using several types of power devices, which can be unintentionally used, to show that optimal selection can be achieved. Based on the given thermal resistances, thermal analysis and design procedures are also described from a practical viewpoint.

  • A new three-phase soft-switching active front-end inverter is presented. The topology consists of a quasi-resonant PWM boost converter with an additional resonant branch, which provides low loss at high frequency operation. This leads to a high conversion efficiency and a remarkable reduction in the siBe of the input inductor. To synchronise the PWM pattern with the resonance cycle, a modified space vector modulation with asymmetrical PWM pattern is used. A high power factor can be achieved for both power flow directions. Due to a new control strategy the converter features a low content of harmonics in the line currents even for distorted line voltages.

  • A new switching mode has been proposed to obtain high power factor and low THD in single stage AC-DC converter. The conventional voltage mode control in critical conduction mode distorts input current shape with poor THD in flyback topology. Once TRIAC dimmer is connected, visible flicker in the LED lamp is easily detected due to a lack of TRAIC holding current near the input voltage zero cross. The newly proposed method can shape the input current by providing a desired reference voltage so that low THD is obtained by ideal sinusoidal input current in case of no dimmer connection and flat input current performs good TRIAC dimmer compatibility in phase-cut dimming condition. To confirm the validity of the proposed method, theoretical analysis and experimental result from 8W dimmable LED lighting system are presented.

  • Combination the several type of single phase power conversion utilized simply topology are proposed in this paper. Totally four kind of converter are investigated, they are Boost AC/AC Converter, Buck AC/AC Converter, Boost AC/DC Converter, and Buck DC/AC Converter. Two types action mode are presented to determine the functional of circuit. First is AC chopper action mode, representation of the AC/AC converter. AC chopper action mode offered the sinusoidal current waveform, better power factor, faster dynamics, and smaller input/output filter. They present high robustness, offer safe commutation and have high efficiency. The second is full bridge action mode, determined the transformation AC to DC power and otherwise. Four switching devices and one magnetic contactor will establish the mode operation of circuit and manage the flow of power proceed in proper. The correction and advance of the kind of converter are verified by simulation.

  • Recently international regulations governing the amount of harmonic currents(e.g IEC 61000-3-2) became mandatory and active Power factor correction (PFC) pre-regulator circuit became inevitable for the AC/DC converters. Among these topologies, the boost topology represents an optimum solution for a PFC pre-regulation in a high power application. This paper propose improved ZVT(Zero Voltage Transition) AC/DC PFC Boost using the average current control employing a soft-switching technique of the auxiliary switch with a minimum number of components. The conventional ZVT PFC Boost Converter has a disadvantage that the auxiliary switch turns off hard, which influences the overall efficiency and the EMI problem. In this paper, an improved ZVT PFC Boost converter using active snubber is proposed to minimize the switching loss of the auxiliary. The prototype of 100kHz, 640W system was implemented to show the improved performance.
