  • The concept of DSS has been applied to profit organizations however, the purpose of this paper is to show how the DSS helps the school administrators to increase the productivity of their operation. DSS may change the structure and atmosphere of the school, but can't always make success in its implementation. Therefore top management should know the problems and its major limitations. Recently the price of micro computer has become cheaper and its capabilities has improved a lot. We'd better notice that decentralized control system will take place in school in the future.

  • After scrutinizing the actual conditions of labor participation in management decision makings through analysing the collective agreements and the regulations of labor-management committee at the affiliated companies of Korea's top-five Chaebols, we could get some conclusions as follows. First, because the labor participation in management decision makings is in very inactive situations at the long-term management strategy level and the workplace practice level of industrial relations, both parties of the industrial relations in those companies surveyed show the serious lack of abilities to tackle the new and rapidly changing business environments as nowadays actively and cooperatively. Second, we could find the fact that in the surveyed companies the device of collective bargaining was used more commonly at the collective bargaining level of industrial relations and the device of labor-management committee was often used relatively at the long-term management strategy level and the workplace practice level. Third, we could conclude that the separating type of the labor-management committee which was able to keep a safe distance from the more antagonistic device, the collective bargaining, was much more efficient device of the labor participation in management decision makings.

  • With the evolution of telecommunications network, the operational enviroments of a morden telecommunication network are becoming more complex and diverse. Therefore. the design of NMA( Network Management Aechitecture) that pursues standardization and openness in order to accommodatae them actively will be required. In such a network environment which composes various and heterogeneous network elements, it is not easy to surpport efficiently TMN MSs(Management Services) because it has lack of interoperability among them. This paper proposes a top-down approach being taken to design a network management architecture with establishing the hierarchical relationships of management services based on ITU-TS(Telecommunication Standardization in Europe) TMN concept, and allocating MSC(Management Service Component) by TMN management layer, and analyzing the information flow between FAs(Functional Areas).

  • In order to deal with severe competition in the construction market of developing countries, large contractors must continually improve their own performance and operation. Performance measurement is the heart of ceaseless improvement in organizations. Key performance indicators (KPIs) play a key role in measuring project management performance (PMP) of large contractors in developing countries. The main objective of this paper is to identify KPIs, which can be used to measure PMP of contractors, and then analyze the underlying relationships of these KPIs in order to gain insight into PMP of large construction firms in Vietnam construction industry (VCI). Literature reviews and the pilot survey provided 30 KPIs. Fourteen KPIs, which have the mean values higher than 3.0, were considered as important KPIs through a questionnaire survey of 32 professionals. Factor analysis of these KPIs was employed to categorize them. The results of the survey revealed that top six KPIs are construction time and cost, owner satisfaction on services and products, and quality management and project team performance. Factor analysis uncovered that 14 top-ranked KPIs can be grouped under six categories, namely: (1) construction input management, (2) owner satisfaction, (3) cost and quality, (4) manpower management, (5) subcontractor performance and (6) equipment management. The findings of this research can be used as a guideline to measure PMP of contractors in Vietnam as well as in other developing countries. Since contractors from a country to the other country may have the same manner to manage construction projects, the results of this study may be useful not only to practitioners and researchers in Vietnam but also to participants in other developing countries.

  • The widespread use of the Internet has led to the problem of intellectual property and copyright infringement. Digital rights management (DRM) technologies have been developed to protect digital content items. Digital content can be classified into static content (for example, text or media files) and dynamic content (for example, VOD or multicast streams). This paper deals with the protection of a multicast stream on set-top boxes connected to an IP network. In this paper, we examine the following design and architectural issues to be considered when applying DRM functions to multicast streaming service environments: transparent streaming service and large-scale user environments. To address the transparency issue, we introduce a 'selective encryption scheme'. To address the second issue, a 'key packet insertion scheme' and 'hierarchical key management scheme' are introduced. Based on the above design and architecture, we developed a prototype of a multicasting DRM system. The analysis of our implementation shows that it supports transparent and scalable DRM multicasting service in a large-scale user environment.

  • In this paper, a two-stage and top-down approach of mid-term and long-term R&D planning of public corporation is proposed to incorporate some characteristics of public corporation and to overcome the complexity of the real world planning. Unlikely to R&D planning of private company, the total investiment size of public corporation is institutionally determined. A top-down approach is developed to adopt this feature. The proposed approach has two stages to overcome the complexity. In the first stage, we develop a plan for R&D area by adopting the business area and the public role of corporation. In the second stage, we develop the detailed plan within each area. The proposed approach is applied to develop the mid-term and long-term R&D plan of Korea Gas Corporation.

  • This study investigate the effects of environmental and organizational characteristics on e-business competence and the influence of e-business competence on export performance in the small and medium sized firms. The development of the research model is based on the literature of e-business and the empirical studies of information technology competence. The data from the survey was analyzed using Partial Least Squares(PLS). The results from the empirical model suggest that e-business competence is affected by environmental uncertainty and market diversity as well as top management support and learning orientation. And, export performance is enhanced by e-business competence.

  • IT and e-business is a hot issue of the world business and economic communities. The web site is the portal through which most of electronic transactions are conducted today. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate on factors influencing the web site development at the firms in Korea. Survey questionnaires were distributed via email & post to 281 firms that have implemented web site. Out of 44 responded questionnaires, 39 data sets were available for statistical analysis with SPPSSWin 10.1. Factor analysis identified five dimensions of web site development : (1) support of top management, (2) information technologies maturity, (3) strategic utilization of web site, (4) strength of rivalry among competing firm, (5) support policy of the government. Results of this study show that information technologies maturity and strategic utilization of web site positively influence on web site development. But support of top management, strength of rivalry among competing firm and support policy of the government don't influence on web site development. This study may provide a guideline to improve the quality of web site development.

  • Dynamic nature of the A/E/C industry, rapidly changing global market environment, and lowest cost competitive bidding make it difficult to survive in global engineering markets. To understand of the global design&engineering market, a case study has been undertaken. The top 150 global design forms represented in the ENR(Engineering News Record) from 1995 to 2003 are classified three groups for the case study, First group is the firms that its rank is getting raised from 1995. Second group is the firms keep holding its rank from 1994 until 2003. Third group is the firms that its rank has gone down from 1995 until 2003. However, finding key factors and changing business strategies of successful top design fm are the fundamental goals in this paper, After examined case study, this paper concludes and suggests that professionalization, M&A strategies, patrons of government, and academic supporting are needed to be succeeding in the global design & engineering industry.
