The growth disorder influences craniofacial development and early loss of permanent teeth. This case reports the importance of computerized tomography (CT) and surgical guide to identify horizontal bone loss, adjacent teeth and to guide drills when placing implants in a short stature patient. The patient has idiopathic short stature and the 3rd grade of intellectual disability. To recover posterior mandibular teeth, implant treatment was planned. CT images showed that the adjacent teeth were located markedly to the buccal side. A CT-based surgical guide was fabricated and implants was placed using flapless surgery. Bone dehiscence and fenestration may happen when the surgical guide was fabricated just based on adjacent clinical crowns. Thus, it is essential to analysis bone and teeth and to make surgical guide through CT, especially in atrophied bone on grow disorder patients. Furthermore, systematic researches are recommended to elucidate the relationship between growth disorder and tooth malposition.

Treatment of missing mandibular 4 incisors is often thought to be easier then other place during surgical and prothetic procedure. But clinicians encounter unexpected difficulties such as restricted implant site due to mesio-distal width of mandibular incisors, limited space as a result of crowing and mesial drift, esthetic problem after severe alveolar bone resorption, and difficulties of provisionalization Through cases, possible treatment options for missing mandibular incisors would be discussed. Treatment options for missing mandibular 4 incisors Place narrow type implant or one body mini implant on exact tooth position when there is no bone resorption Regular size implant on interseptal bone area when there is severe bone resorption Consider using resin bonded bridge(resin retained bridge/resin bonded fixed partial denture) as a tentative prosthesis when patient resists extracting remaining incisors with poor prognosis.

Purpose: To determine the benefits of autogenous tooth bone (ATB) graft in combination with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the rates of success and survival of dental implants placed simultaneously with maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA). Materials and Methods: Patients who visited the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Ulsan University Hospital from 2012 to 2014 and underwent simultaneous placement of implants with MSFA using ATB plus PRP were included in the study. Success and survival rates of the implants were evaluated based on the parameters of age and sex of the patient, site, follow-up period, residual bone height before surgery, diameter, and length of implant, sinus mucosa impairment, and postoperative complications. Result: A total of 23 patients and 67 implants were included in this study. The average age of the patients was $53.78{\pm}10.00$ years. The average follow-up period after installation of the prosthesis was $53{\pm}5$ months. The success and survival rates of the implants after placement of prosthesis were 95.52% and 97.01%, respectively. Conclusion: Combination of ATB and PRP showed high overall success rate, and it can be concluded that this combination is a predictable bone graft procedure for MSFA.

The eruption of permanent teeth represents the movement in the alveolar bone before appearance in oral cavity, to the occlusal plane after appearance in oral cavity, and additive movement after reaching th the occlusal plane. Tooth eruption is mostly controlled by genetic signals. The eruption stage is divided to preeruptive alveolar stage, alveolar bone stage, mucosal stage according to the process of growth and development. If the disturbance is occured in any stage of eruption, tooth does not erupt. The cause of eruption disturbance are ectopic position of the tooth germ, obstruction of the eruption path and defects in the follicle or PDL. In the treatment of eruption disturbance, surgical procedures are commonly used. There are three kind of surgical procedure ; surgical exposure, surgical repositioning, surgical exposure and traction Surgical exposure is basic procedure. This involves removal of mucosa, bone, lesion that are surrounding the teeth, dental sac when necessary to maintain a patent channel between the crown and the normal eruptive path into the oral cavity. To ensure this patency, many techniques including cementation of a celluloid crown, packing with gutta-percha or zinc oxide-eugenol, or a surgical pack, are used. When surgical exposure is conducted, operators should not expose any part of cervical root cement and not injure periodontium or root of adjunct tooth. After surgical exposure, tooth should be surrounded by keratinized gingiva. There is direct relationship between the extent of development of pathophysiologic aberrations and the intensity of the manipulative injury inflicted on the tooth by surgical treatment, so operator should consider this thing. In these cases, surgical exposure is conducted on Maxillary 1st milars that have a eruption disturbance and improve the eruption disturbance effectively.
This experiment was performed to investigate the response of inorganic substances in alveolar bone in relation to the experimental tooth movement. Right canine in maxillary jaw was tipped in cats by coil springs generating 80 gm. force, in mandibular jaw, the force was 100 gm. force. Cats were divided into five groups and orthodontically treated for one hour, 1, 7, 14 and 28 days, respectively. Alveolar bone samples were obtained from tension and compression sites as well as from contralateral control sites. The level of calcium of alveolar bone was determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry and inorganic phosphorus was measured by spectrophotometry. The results obtained were as follows: 1. In tension and compression site of maxillary alveolar bone, calcium levels were decreased at 1, 7 and 14 days, but recovered at 28 days. 2. The levels of inorganic phosphorus in compression site of maxillary alveolar bone had little change but in tension site of maxillary alveolar bone , phosphorous levels were decreased, 3. Calcium levels in tension and compression site of mandibular alveolar bone were decreased, especially at 28 days. 4. In tension and compression site of mandibular alveolar bone, inorganic phosphorus were slightly decreased from 1 day.
PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to obtain statistical data on the residual bone height at different natural tooth positions by panoramic radiography in edentulous Korean patients aged 60-90 years. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The study included the diagnostic panoramic radiographs of 180 randomly selected edentulous patients without systemic diseases affecting bone. The radiographic selection criteria included absence of obvious facial asymmetry, clearly visible anatomic structures, and no surgical and fracture history. The panoramic radiographs of 79 patients met these criteria and were used in the analysis. The same researcher processed all the radiographs by using a standardized method. The height of the residual bone was measured at 18 predetermined sites (7 in the maxilla and 11 in the mandible) on digitized and printed radiographs by using a Digimatic caliper, triangle, and ruler. Gender- and age-related differences were statistically analyzed by using the t-test and rank-sum test (${\alpha}=0.05$). RESULTS. The maxillary residual bone height did not show significant gender-related differences, but male patients had significantly higher residual bone in the mandible(P<.05). No significant height differences at the measured sites were noted among the 60s, 70s, and 80s age groups. CONCLUSION. Dentists should pay greater attention to older female edentulous patients because they are more prone to rapid residual bone resorption. Residual bone resorption may not be affected by age.
Bone properties are one of the key components when constructing models that can simulate the mechanical behavior of a mandible. Due to the complexity of the structure, the tooth, ligaments, different bones etc., some simplifications are often considered and bone properties are one of them. The objective of this study is to understand if a simplification of the problem is possible and assess its influence on mandible behavior. A cadaveric toothless mandible was used to build three computational models from CT scan information: a full cortical bone model; a cortical and cancellous bone model, and a model where the Young's modulus was obtained as function of the pixel value in a CT scan. Twelve muscle forces were applied on the mandible. Results showed that although all the models presented the same type of global behavior and proximity in some locations, the influence of cancellous bone can be seen in strain distribution. The different Young's modulus defined by the CT scan gray scale influenced the maximum and minimum strains. For modeling general behavior, a full cortical bone model can be effective. However, when cancellous bone is included, maximum values in thin regions increase the strain distribution. Results revealed that when properties are assigned to the gray scale some peaks could occur which did not represent the real situation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the survival of periodontally hopeless teeth that were intentionally extracted and replanted after a delay and to compare the radiographic characteristics of the survival group with those of the failure group. Methods: The clinical and radiographic data from patients who underwent delayed intentional replantation between March 2000 and July 2010 were reviewed. Twenty-seven periodontally hopeless teeth were extracted and preserved in medium supplemented with antibiotics for 10-14 days. The teeth were then repositioned in the partially healed extraction socket and followed for 3 to 21 months. The radiographic parameters were analyzed using a paired t test and the cumulative survival rate was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier analysis. Results: Seven replanted teeth failed and the overall cumulative survival rate was 66.4%. In the survival group, the amount of bone loss was reduced from 68.45% to 34.66% three months after replantation. There was radiologic and clinical evidence of ankylosis with 5 teeth. However, no root resorption was found throughout the follow-up period. In the failure group, bone formation occurred from the bottom of the socket. However, a remarkable radiolucent line along the root of a replanted tooth existed. The line lengthened and thickened as time passed. Finally, in each case of failure, the tooth was extracted due to signs of inflammation and increased mobility. Conclusions: Delayed intentional replantation has many advantages compared to immediate intentional replantation and could serve as an alternative treatment for periodontally involved hopeless teeth. However, techniques for maintaining the vitality of periodontal structures on the tooth surface should be developed for improved and predictable results.

The 3D tooth model in which each tooth can be manipulated individualy is essential component for the orthodontic simulation and implant simulation in dental field. For the reconstruction of such a tooth model, we need an image segmentation algorithm capable of separating individual tooth from neighboring teeth and alveolar bone. In this paper we propose a CT image normalization method and adaptive optimal thresholding algorithm for the segmenation of tooth region in CT image slices. The proposed segmentation algorithm is based on the fact that the shape and intensity of tooth change gradually among CT image slices. It generates temporary boundary of a tooth by using the threshold value estimated in the previous imge slice, and compute histograms for the inner region and the outer region seperated by the temporary boundary. The optimal threshold value generating the finnal tooth region is computed based on these two histogram.
PURPOSE. To evaluate the cumulative survival rate (CSR) and mechanical complications of single-tooth $Ankylos^{(R)}$ implants. MATERIALS AND METHODS. This was a retrospective clinical study that analyzed 450 single $Ankylos^{(R)}$ implants installed in 275 patients between December 2005 and December 2012. The main outcomes were survival results CSR and implant failure) and mechanical complications (screw loosening, fracture, and cumulative fracture rate [CFR]). The main outcomes were analyzed according to age, sex, implant length or diameter, bone graft, arch, and position. RESULTS. The 8-year CSR was 96.9%. Thirteen (2.9%) implants failed because of early osseointegration failure in 3, marginal bone loss in 6, and abutment fracture in 4. Screw loosening occurred in 10 implants (2.2%), and 10 abutment fractures occurred. All abutment fractures were located in the neck, and concurrent screw fractures were observed. The CSR and rate of screw loosening did not differ significantly according to factors. The CFR was higher in middle-aged patients (5.3% vs 0.0% in younger and older patients); for teeth in a molar position (5.8% vs 0.0% for premolar or 1.1% for anterior position); and for larger-diameter implants (4.5% for 4.5 mm and 6.7% for 5.5 mm diameter vs 0.5% for 3.5 mm diameter) (all P<.05). CONCLUSION. The $Ankylos^{(R)}$ implant is suitable for single-tooth restoration in Koreans. However, relatively frequent abutment fractures (2.2%) were observed and some fractures resulted in implant failures. Middle-aged patients, the molar position, and a large implant diameter were associated with a high incidence of abutment fracture.
