STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Proximal contact plays an important role in the stability and maintenance of the integrity of the dental arches. However, it is difficult to evaluate quantitatively the tightness of proximal tooth contact (TPTC). PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to measure the TPTC in permanent dentition. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Ten young adult volunteers with healthy dentition participated in this experiment. The TPTC between the teeth of both the maxilla and the mandible was measured at rest state by a novel device which records the TPTC by pulling of a stainless steel strip (0.03 mm thick) using the electric motor. One-way ANOVA test was used to compare the values in all measured area. When a statistically significant difference was calculated, Bonferroni correction was applied. Independent samples t-test was used to compare the values in male and female. RESULTS: The lowest TPTC and the highest TPTC was measured between the lower central incisors (0.87 ${\pm}$ 0.20 N), and between the lower left first molar and second molar (1.99 ${\pm}$ 0.68 N), respectively. All TPTC per quadrant demonstrated a similar pattern of a continuous increased gradient in an anterior-posterior direction. There are no significant difference between the maxilla and mandible. CONCLUSION: The TPTC was measured quantitatively by a novel device and decreased progressively in a posterior-anterior direction.

The wind industry grew in the first decade of the 21st century at rates consistently above 20% a year. For wind turbine, gearbox failure can be extremely costly in terms of repair costs, replacement parts, and in lost power production due to downtime. In this paper, gear tooth micro-modification for the high speed stage was used to compensate for the deformation of the teeth due to load and to ensure a proper meshing to achieve an optimized tooth contact pattern. The gearbox was firstly modeled in a software, and then the various combined tooth modification were presented, and the prediction of transmission under the loaded torque for the helical gear pair was investigated, the normal load distribution and root stress were also obtained and compared before and after tooth modification under one torque. The simulation results showed that the transmission error and normal load distribution under the load can be minimized by the appropriate tooth modification. It is a good approach where the simulated result is used to improve the design before the prototype is available for the test.
The first function of occlusion is mastication. Therefore the functional restoration of occlusal surface is very important. The restoration of occlusal surface is three method as wax bite technique, F.G.P. technique, cone technique. Many dental technician is using compound method. I am using compound method of wax bite technique and cone technique. I have knew common point on each teeth during I have waxing up wax pattern. So I studied on the design waxup technique for mandible molar occlusion. The results of the study were as follows; 1. The dam wax up method can restore axial contour of teeth very easy and make short working time of wax pattern. 2. The height of dam must be same with cusp of adjacent teeth. 3. Automatically the contour of tooth is appeared if the contour of dam is relationship with cuspid line of adjacent teeth. 4. The height of contour of buccal, lingual surface is formed natural curve to add fluid wax by gravitation. 5. The development groove of mandible first premolar is appeared V form. 6. The development groove of mandible second premolar is appeared Y form. 7, The development groove of mandible first molar is appeared M form. 8. The development groove of mandible second molar is W form. 9. The embrasure is formed to carve around contact point area as round convex. It affects to axial form of tooth. 10. The buccal, lingual groove of molar is formed parallel with direction of teeth arrangement.

As environmental issues have emerged worldwide, emission gas regulations have been strengthened. In the construction machinery sector, studies have been actively conducted to utilize the power source of electric motors owing to the increasing demand for zero emissions. In this study, the gear specifications of an electric axle for construction machinery were selected by considering the specifications of the motor, gear tooth contact pattern, and face load factor. The gear strength evaluation was performed at the system level using the simulation model. The bending and contact strength of the spiral bevel gears and the bending strength of the planetary gear set showed a safety factor of 1 or more. However, the contact strength of the planetary gear set showed a safety factor of 0.92. Conservative results were derived by performing the analysis under the rated load condition of the motor. However, the ratio of the equivalent torque to the rated torque of the motor was 45% or less, hence, it was determined that no difficulties should arise regarding the durability of the axle.

This study aimed to make an analysis of the occlusion in the state of muscle fatigue produced by excessive mouth opening and clenching during the dental treatment to control the dental pain and to evaluate the sensory nerve in the muscle pain state. Most of the reasons why patients visit the dental office result in pain-either conceivably the dental origin pain or the non-dental origin pain. The dental offices have many therapeutic actions to produce the masticatory muscle fatigue for the treatment. Dental treatment with long minutes of mouth opening can cause some headaches, masticatory muscle pain and mouth opening difficulties. Patients with mastication problems who visits a dental office to alleviate pain run against another unexpected pain with other aspects. This study uses T-scan II system(Tekscan Co., USA) for the evaluation on the occlusal pattern in the experimental muscle fatigue after clenching, opening the mouth excessively and chewing gum. The occlusal contact pattern is analyzed by the contact timing, namely first, intercuspal, maximum and end point of contact. This inspection was performed at frequencies of 2000Hz, 250 Hz and 5 Hz before and after each experimental muscle pain was produced to 24 subjects who had normal occlusion without the orthodontic treatment or a wide range of the prosthesis by using $neurometer^{\circledR}$ CPT/C(Neurotron, Inc. Baltimore, Maryland, USA). The measuring sites were mandibular nerve experimental muscle fatigue respectively. This study could obtain the following results after the assessment of occlusion and sensory nerve of the experimental muscle fatigue. 1. There were the fastest expression after the excessive mouth opening in muscle fatigue and after tooth clenching in muscle pain. In the visual analog scale that records the subjective level, there was the highest scale after the clenching in the muscle fatigue in jumping off the point of pain. 2. Tooth contact time, contact force, relative contact force on the point of the first contact had no difference, and there were decreases in the contact force after the excessive mouth opening on intercuspal position point, after the excessive mouth opening and the gum chewing on the point of the maximum, and in the contact time after all the experimental muscle fatigue state on the point of the end contact. 3. There was no statistic significance in the current perception threshold before and after the experimental muscle fatigue. 4. There was no significant difference in the contact number, the maximal contact number on the point of the first contact, and the contact number after the mouth opening and gum chewing on the point of the intercuspal position and the contact number after the experimental muscle fatigue on the maximum point, and showed significant decreases. In conclusion, it was found that the occlusal pattern can cause the changes on the case of the clinical muscle weakness by intra-external oral events. It was important that the sedulous attention to details is required during dental treatment in case of excessive mouth opening, mastication and clenching.
The purpose of this study was to analysis the stress distribution induced by three unit PFM bridges and various cantilever bridges replacing maxillary latersal incisor. The simplified two-dimensional photoelastic models used for this study was contructed in the folio- wing way. CR/R ratio was designed to be 1 : 1, 1 : 1.25 and 1 : 1.5. The pontics of cantilever bridge supported by maxillary canines consisted of wrap-around type, rest-extension type, and simple type. 3-unit PFM bridge was constructed with traditional method. 1kg vertical static load was applied on the center of the incisal edge of the pontic. The stress pattern was examined and recorded by photography. The results obtained were as follows ; 1. The magnitude of stress on the abutment root apex area of a traditional 3-unit bridge was the lowest. 2. The model of cantilevered pontic with a rest showed the relatively well distributed stress around the abutment tooth. The model with simple pontic generated the greatest stress concentration in the supporting structure of the abutment tooth. 3. As the height of bone level reduced, the rotational and vertical force increased around the abutment tooth. 4. The stress concentration of the 3-unit bridges occured on the root apex and stress concentration of the cantilever briage occured on the root apex and cervix area, 5. In the case of the cantilever bridge, stress concentrated distally on the root apex area of the abutment tooth and additional stress was observed mesially on the upper part of the root. Especially in the case of the simple pontic, was phenomenon was more apparent than the others. 6. Force applied to cantilevered pontic was transmitted to the adjacent central incisor through the contact surface. Stress was markedly observed on the mesial cervix area in the case of simple pontic and on the root apex area in the case of wrap-around type and rest-extension type.

A slewing reducer consists of two planetary gearsets which require a good load distribution over the gear tooth flank for enhanced durability. This work investigates how the bearing characteristics influence the load distribution over the gear tooth flank. A complete system model is developed to analyze a slewing reducer, including the non-linear mesh stiffness of the gears and the non-linear stiffness of bearings. The results indicate that the type, arrangement and preload of the output shaft bearings greatly influence the gear mesh misalignment, contact pattern, face load factor, gear safety factor and lifetimes of the parts.
In this study, we designed the finite element models of mandible with varying their connecting types between the prosthesis on implant fixture and 2nd premolar, which were free-standing case(Mf), precision attachment case(Mp), semiprecision attachment case(Ms) and telescopic case(Mt). The basic model of the designed finite element models, which contained a canine and the 1st & 2nd premolar, was implanted in the edentulous site of the 1st & 2nd molar by two implant fixtures. We applied the load in all models by two ways. A vertical load of 200N was applied at each central fossa of 2nd premolar and 1st implant. A tilting load of 20N with inclination of $45^{\circ}$ to lingual side was applied to buccal cusp tips of each 2nd premolar and 1st implant. And then we analyzed three-dimensional finite element models, making a comparative study of principal stress and displacement in four cases respectively. Three-dimensional finite element analysis was performed for the stress distribution and the displacement using commercial software(IDEAS program) for SUN-SPARC workstation. The results were as follows : 1 Under vertical load or tilting load, maximum displacement appeared at the 2nd premolar. Semiprecision case showed the largest maximum displacement, and maximum displacement reduced in the order of precision attachment, free-standing and telescopic case. 2. Under vertical load. the pattern of displacement of the 1st implant appeared mesio-inclined because of the 2nd implant splinted together. But displacement pattern of the 2nd premolar varied according to their connection type with prosthesis. The 2nd premolar showed a little mesio-inclined vertical displacement in case of free-standing and disto-inclined vertical displacement due to attachment in case of precision and semiprecision attachment. In telescopic case, the largest mesio-inclined vertical displacement has been shown, so, the 1st premolar leaned mesial side. 3. Under tilting load, The pattern of displacement was similar in all four cases which appeared displaced to lingual side. But, the maximum displacement of 2nd premolar appeared larger than that of the first implant. Therefore, there was large discrepancy in displacement between natural tooth and implant during tilting load. 4. Under vertical load, the maximum compressive stress appeared at the 1st implant's neck. Semiprecision attachment case showed the largest maximum compressive stress, and the maximum compressive stress reduced in the order of precision attachment, telescopic and free-standing case. 5 Under vertical load, the maximum tensile stress appeared at the 2nd implant's distal neck. Semiprecision attachment case showed the largest maximum tensile stress, and the maximum tensile stress reduced in the order of precision attachment, telescopic and free-standing case. 6. Under vertical load or tilting load, principal stress appeared little between natural tooth & implant in free-standing case, but large principal stress was distributed at upper crown and distal contact site of the 2nd premolar in telescopic case. Principal stress appeared large at keyway & around keyway of distal contact site of the 2nd premolar in precision and semiprecision attachment case, appearing more broad and homogeneous in precision attachment case than in semiprecision attachment case.
Correlation between occlusal contact pattern and TMD have been hypothesized and partially investigated but results are controversial and not conclusive. The purposes of this study were to compare right-to-left difference of occlusal contact pattern, through contact points, contact force and occlusal balance, in the patients with unilateral TMD and also to evaluate its change related with TMD treatment. 36 patients with unilateral TMD from Department of Oral Medicine in Dankook University Dental Hospital were selected in this study (M:F=7:29, mean age of $29.2{\pm}14.8$ years). A computerized T-Scan II system (Tekscan, INC., USA) was employed for occlusal analysis and the simultaneity and occlusal balance through the number of tooth contact and magnitude of contact force were determined before and after TMD treatment. The number of contact points and contact force was more on the unaffected side than the affected side before treatment (p=0.056 and p=0.060, respectively) while significant difference between both sides was not found after treatment. The number of contact points and contact force on the affected sides significantly increased after treatment (p=0.038 and p=0.052), but the unaffected sides exhibited no significant difference between before and after treatment. In addition, sides difference in relative contact force decreased from about 27% to about 12% after TMD treatment (p=0.001). According to the results of this study, it is likely that unilateral TMD impairs right-to-left occlusal balance and that conservative TMD treatment alleviates the imbalance, subsequently leading to more symmetrical occlusal condition with increased contact points and force.
