CBN 숫돌의 입자거동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Behaviors of Abrasive Grains in CBN Wheel)

  • One must observe abrasive grain of grinding wheel and know their behaviors to understand the grinding mechanism. The behaviors of abrasive grain on the wheel surface. such as shapes distributions and changes were studied to make the grinding mechanism clear but the behaviors of abrasive grains on CBN wheel are not known enough. From this paper the working surface of a grinding wheel is observed by photography in which a picture of a wheel surface is taken by the camera through the microscope on the grinding machine and analyzed with the computer.

  • In this study behavior of deformation and fracture under static tensile load in friction welded dissimilar materials and necking 0phenomenon occuring at tensile yeilding point were shown. Fibrous zone with view of macroscope and dimple pattren with a view of microscope were observed at shear surface.

Space Charge Measurement as a Diagnostic Tool to Monitor Ageing in Polymeric Materials

  • Charge dynamics in polymeric materials after aged under ac electric field using the pulsed electroacoustic (PEA) technique is reported. The emphasis is placed on charge decay. The charge dynamics of the ac aged additive free low density polyethylene (LDPE) samples under dc bias differ from the sample without ac ageing, indicating changes brought in by ac ageing. It is believed that a slow decay rate of charge in the ac aged sample is related to the formation of deep traps in the material. However, chemical analysis by infrared spectroscope (FTIR) and Raman microscope reveals no significant chemical changes taken place in the bulk of the material after ac ageing. Further experiments on irradiated LDPE have revealed a similar behaviour, i.e. the charge decay is slower in irradiated samples than that of fresh sample. The findings presented clearly indicate that space charge measurement can be used as a diagnostic tool to monitor ageing in polymeric materials.

  • A new polishing technique for three dimensional micro/meso-scale parts is suggested using a micro quill and a magnetic chain structure. The principle of this method is to polish the target surface with the collected magnetic brushes at a micro tool by the non-uniform magnetic field generated around the tool. In a typical magnetic abrasive finishing process magnetic particles and abrasive particles are unbonded each other. But, to finish the three dimensional small parts bonded magnetic abrasive have to be used. Bonded magnetic abrasives are made from direct bonding, and their polishing characteristics are also examined. Alumina, silicon carbide and diamond micro powders are used as abrasives. Base metal matrix is carbonyl iron powder. It is found that bonded magnetic abrasives are superior to unbonded one by experiment. finally, the polished surface roughness is evaluated by atomic force microscope.

  • Machining technology has emerged to the point of performing atomic-scale fabrication. In tail paper atomic-scale machining characteristics are investigated by using Molecular Statics simulation method. The cutting model used in this work simulates machining with tools such as an AFM. It is shown that built-up edge formation and cutting forces depend on tool tip geometry. Also, the material flow during cutting is shown for various cutting conditions such as depth of cut, rake angle, and edge radius of tool.

공구강의 표면특성에 미치는 플라즈마 질화처리의 영향 (Effects of Plasma Nitriding on the Surface Characteristics of Tool Steels)

  • Effects of plasma nitriding on the surface characteristics of tool steels have been investigated using wear tester, micro-hardness tester and scanning electron microscope (SEM) Commercial SKD 11 and SM45 alloy were used as specimens and were plasma nitrided using a plasma nitriding equipment for 5 hr and 10hr at $500^{\circ}C$. Microstructure and phase analysis were performed using SEM and XRD. It was found that plasma nitriding for lour at $500^{\circ}C$, compared with plasma nitriding for 10hr at $500^{\circ}C$, had a thick nitrided layer and produced a layer with good wear resistance and hardness as nitriding time increased. SKD11 alloy showed that wear resistance and hardness decreased, whereas surface roughness increased, compared with SM45 alloy.

  • This study investigates the micro-cutting of cemented carbides using PCD(polycrystalline diamond) and PCBN(polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) cutting tools are performed with SEM direct observation method. The purpose of this study is to make clear the cutting mechanism of cemented carbides and the fracture of WC particles at the plastic deformation zone in orthogonal micro-cutting. And also to achieve systematic understanding, the effect of machining parameter on chip formation and machined surface was investigated, including cutting speed. depth of cut and various tool rake angle.

  • Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) is a composite material useful in the aerospace and automotive industries because of its light weight and high strength. In this study, side milling tests were carried out using AlCrN, diamond-like carbon (DLC), and diamond-coated end mills. Additionally, a comparison study according to the cobalt content was conducted. Thus, tool wear and surface quality were examined and the influences of using coating and a certain material type were analyzed. The surface roughness of the machined surface was measured. Microscope observations revealed that the CFRP fiber at the machined surface was not damaged even at a cutting distance of 3,000 mm. Therefore, this study showed that the diamond-coated end mill containing 6% cobalt is appropriate for milling CFRP.

  • In this study, residual stress was investigated experimentally to evaluate damaged layer in high-sped machining. In machining difficult-to-cut material, residual stress remaining in machined surface was mainly speared as compressive stress. The scale of this damaged layer depends upon cutting speed, feed per tooth and radial cutting depth. Damaged layer was measured by optical microscope. The micro-structure of damaged layer was a mixed maternsite and austenite. depth of damaged layer is increased with increasing of cutting temperature, cutting force and radial depth. On the other hand, that is slightly decreased with decreasing of cutting force. The increase of tool wear causes a shift of the maximum residual stress in machined surface layer.

  • 전 세계적으로 컴퓨터 및 이동통신의 급속한 발전과 함께 전자, 통신부품을 비롯한 각종 부품들의 초소형화, 고기능화가 요구되고 있다. 이러한 추세에 따라 수 $\mu\textrm{m}$ 의 크기와 수 nm의 정밀도를 갖는 MEMS기술과 NANO 기술에 대한 연구가 활발히 전개되고 있다 MEMS 기술의 경우기존의 생산, 가공 공정과는 완전히 다른 반도체공정을 기반으로 한 리소그래피(lithography) 기술이나 전기도금(electroplating) 등의 기존 기계공학적 생산, 가공 방법을 넘어선 기술을 사용하게 되며 NANO 기술 역시 분자, 원자 단위를 기초로 한 AFM(atomic force microscope) 기술과 임프린팅(nanoimprinting) 기술 등의 새로운 기술을 접목시키는 생산 방법을 사용한다.(중략)
