  • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) have wide application area. They are of vital importance at process plants to detect the onset of hazardous events, for instance, a release of some hazardous material, and for mitigating their consequences to humans, material assets, and the environment. The integrated safety systems, where electrical, electronic, and/or programmable electronic (E/E/PE) devices interact with mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems are governed by international safety standards like IEC 61508. IEC 61508 organises its requirements according to a Safety Life Cycle (SLC). Fulfilling these requirements following the SLC can be complex without the aid of SIS supporting tools. This paper presents simple SIS support tool which can greatly help the user to implement the design phase of the safety lifecycle. This tool is modelled in the form of Android application which can be integrated with a Web-based data reading and modifying system. This tool can reduce the computation time spent on the design phase of the SLC and reduce the possible errors which can arise in the process. In addition, this paper presents an optimization approach to SISs based on cost measures. The multi-objective genetic algorithm has been used for the optimization to search for the best combinations of solutions without enumeration of all the solution space.

  • Due to rapid development of bioinformatics technologies, various biological data have been produced in silico. So now days complicated and large scale biodata are used to accomplish requirement of researcher. Developing visualization and annotation tool using them is still hot issues although those have been studied for a decade. However, diversity and various requirements of users make us hard to develop general purpose tool. In this paper, I propose a novel system, Genome Viewer and Annotation tool (GenoVA), to annotate and visualize among genomes using known information and multiple relation graph. There are several multiple alignment tools but they lose conserved area for complexity of its constrains. The GenoVA extracts all associated information between all pair genomes by extending pairwise alignment. High frequency conserved area and high BLAST score make a block node of relation graph. To represent multiple relation graph, the system connects among associated block nodes. Also the system shows the known information, COG, gene and hierarchical path of block node. In this case, the system can annotates missed area and unknown gene by navigating the special block node's clustering. I experimented ten bacteria genomes for extracting the feature to visualize and annotate among them. GenoVA also supports simple and rough computational annotation of new genome.

  • Accelerated soil wind erosion still remains to date to cause severe economic and environmental impacts. Revised and updated models to quantitatively evaluate wind induced soil erosion have been made for specific factors in the wind erosion equation (WEQ) framework. Because of increasing quantities of accumulated data, the WEQ, the revised wind erosion equation (RWEQ), the wind erosion prediction system (WEPS), and other soil wind erosion models have been established. These soil wind erosion models provide essential knowledge about where and when wind erosion occurs although naturally, they are less accurate than the field-scale. The WEQ was a good empirical model for comparing the effects of various management practices on potential erosion before the RWEQ and the WEPS showed more realistic estimates of erosion using easily measured local soil and climatic variables as inputs. The significant relationship between the observed and predicted transport capacity and soil loss makes the RWEQ a suitable tool for a large scale prediction of the wind erosion potential. WEPS developed to replace the empirical WEQ can calculate soil loss on a daily basis, provide capability to handle nonuniform areas, and obtain predictions for specific areas of interest. However, the challenge of precisely estimating wind erosion at a specific regional scale still remains to date.

  • In this study, we investigated the bioactive substances of the Alcalase hydrolysate obtained from fishery processing by-products in Jeju by measuring bioactivities including radical scavenging acitivty, cytoprotective activity against 2,2-azobis-(2-amidino-propane) dihydrochloride (AAPH), and ACE inhibitory activity. This study is important because of utilization of unused fishery processing by-products in Jeju. The Alcalase hydrolysate was prepared through the hot water extraction and enzymatic hydrolysis, and then further separation of the Alcalase hydrolysate was performed by ultrafiltration using 10 kDa molecular weight cut-off membrane. The Alcalase hydrolysate showed the relatively higher DPPH and peroxyl radical scavenging activity ($IC_{50}$ value; 1.30 mg/ml and 0.888 mg/ml, respectively). Also, the Alcalase hydrolysate showed the ACE inhibitory activity with 1.87 mg/ml of $IC_{50}$ value. These biological activities are increased over 1.2 or 2.5 times through the ultrafiltration of the Alcalase hydrolysate. Therefore, the Alcalase hydrolysate obtained from fishery processing by-products in Jeju and the different molecular weight fractions should be given consideration for food and cosmetics ingredient. Furthermore, this research on the utility of fishery processing by-products might be a useful tool into the industry.

  • Tobacco etch virus protease (TEVp) is a useful tool for removing fusion tags, but wild-type TEVp is less stable under oxidized redox state. In this work, we introduced and combined C19S, C110S and C130S into TEVp variants containing T17S, L56V, N68D, I77V and S135G to improve protein solubility, and S219V to inhibit self-proteolysis. The solubility and cleavage activity of the constructed variants in Escherichia coli strains including BL21(DE3), BL21(DE3)pLys, Rossetta(DE3) and Origami(DE3) under the same induction conditions were analyzed and compared. The desirable soluble amounts, activity, and oxidative stability were identified to be reluctantly favored in the TEVp. Unlike C19S, C110S and C130S hardly impacted on decreasing protein solubility in the BL21(DE3), but they contributed to improved tolerance to the oxidative redox state in vivo and in vitro. After two fusion proteins were cleaved by purified TEVp protein containing double mutations under the oxidized redox state, the refolded disulfide-rich bovine enterokinase catalytic domain or maize peroxidase with enhanced yields were released from the regenerated amorphous cellulose via affinity absorption of the cellulose-binding module as the affinity tag.
