In this study, the prediction on the quality of tools after coating process has been investigated. Under different coating conditions, cutting resistances have been obtained and analyzed with a tool dynamometer to provide optimized coating conditions. The optimized coating conditions Lhave been computed with the most effective factors found by S/N ratio of Taguchi method. To evaluate the influence of the factors on cutting efficiency through the minimum of number of experiment times, the way of neural network design using Taguchi method has been employed.
Grip strength provides a quick and objective index of the functional integrity of the upper extremities. It is widely used as an assessment measure in physical and rehabilitation medicine. In this study, maximum voluntary grip strength of 20 college students wearing 5 different gloves were measured using Jamar hand dynamometer. The results show that maximum voluntary grip strength was generally reduced when wearing gloves as compared to bare-handed. More specifically, the grip strength was highest when wearing PVC coated glove or bare-handed and getting lowered as wrist band, rubber, leather, and cotton glove in these order. Depending on the measuring posture of grip strength, shoulder height with arm extended forward was higher than the elbow was flexed 90 degree. Moreover, subjects' demographic factors and hand dimensions were not closely related to the grip strength. It is thus recommended that the proper glove should be provided to reduce the negative consequences including dropping a tool, poorer control of a tool. lower quality work, and increased muscle fatigue and in turn to increase the user safety and satisfaction.
Endmill fillet cutting at the corner was conducted with the online measurement of cutting forces and tool deflection by a tool dynamometer and an eddy current sensor system. The profile of the machined surface was also compared with the CAD profile with a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and CALYPSO software. It was found that the end mill cutter with four blades has a better surface profile than that with two blades, and the cutting forces and tool deformation were increased as the cutting speed was increased. When the tool located at the degree $45^{\circ}$ corner was found to conduct the maximum cutting force than started to the point of the workpiece. As it was compared with the CMM and ANOVA analysis result in the case that the cutting force and tool deformation was the maximum, it was found that the result was affected by the spindle speed and the number of blades.
Tool wear monitoring is very important aspect in metal cutting because tool wear effects quarity and precision of workpiece, tool life etc. In this study we detected force signal through tool dynamometer in turning and using it we conducted 6th AR modeling and fractal analysis. Finally the back-propagation model of the neural network is utilized to monitor tool wear and features are extracted through AR model and fractal analysis.
In this study, ultrasonic vibration tool designed and made by using FEM analysis. And machining test was carried out in various machining conditions using ultrasonic vibration capable CNC machine. For work material, alumina ceramic ($Al_2O_3$) was used while for tool material diamond electroplated grinding wheel was used. To evaluate ultrasonic vibration effect, grinding test was performed with and without ultrasonic vibration in same machining condition. In ultrasonic mode, ultrasonic vibration of 20kHz was generated by HSK 63 ultrasonic actuator. The two grinding speeds, 1.67m/s and 3.35m/s, were applied. On the other hand, grinding forces were measured by KISTLER dynamometer.
Monitoring of the drill wear and hole quality change is conducted during the drilling process. Cutting force measured by tool dynamometer is a evident feature estimating abnormal state of drilling. One major difficulty in using tool dynamometer is that the work piece must be mounted on the dynamometer, and thus the machining process is disturbed and discontinuous. Acoustic transducer do not disturb the normal machining process, and provide a relatively easy way to monitor a machining process for industrial application. For this advantage, AE signal is used to estimate the abnormal state. In this study vision system is used to detect flank wear tendency and hole quality, there are many formal factors in hole quality decision circularity, cylindricity, straightness, and so on, but these are difficult to measure in on-line monitoring. The movement of hole center and increasement of hole diameter is presented to determine hole quality As the results of this experiment, AE RMS signal and measurements by vision system are shown the similar tendency as abnormal state of drilling. And detection of the abnormal states using BPNs was achieved 96.4% reliability.
In the end milling operation the deflection of the cutter is an important factor affecting the accuracy of machining, with implications on the selection of cutting parameters and economics of the operation. Several studies were devoted to the end mill deflection and its effects, notably, providing a useful insight into the problem. Although the deflection affects adversely the accuracy, the flexibility of the cutter is beneficial in attenuating the overload in a sudden transient situation, as well as in attenuating chatter. The deflection of the end mill was studied both experimentally with strain gauge, tool dynamometer, laser measuring apparatus and on a finite element model of the cutting using ANSYS software. The deflection of machining tool with various helix angles was studied with FEM simulation and experiment. ANSYS analysis performed on the finite element model of the end mill provides deflection results which agree within 15.0% with the experimental ones.
In this study, the variation of the cutting forces generated in the machining process were evaluated experimentally. A material of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ ceramic and a tool of the dynamometer were used for the measurements of the cutting forces. With the constant rates of the feed and the tool rotation, the cutting forces were measured along three axial directions(X, Y, Z axis) for the various values of the hollow ratio. It was found that the cutting force be increasing linearly along the direction of Z axis, but along X, Y axis be not varied. Also from the viewpoint of the precesses of the hole drilling, the cutting force was found to be increasing sharply at the beginning process, but from the eighth process be increasing smoothly. As conclusions, the cutting force generated by machining for the material of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ ceramic are influenced more significantly by the feed rate and the hollow ratio than by the tool rotational speed.
The technique of high speed machining is widely studied in machining fields, because the high efficiency and accuracy in machining can be obtained in high speed machining. Unfortunately the development of tool fur high speed machining in not close behind that of machine tool. In this study, 10 types flat endmill is prepared for obtaining data according to tool shape. Especially, we concentrated in helix angle, number of cutting edge and rake angle. Cutting condition is selected for several experiments and measuring cutting farce, tool life, tool wear and chip shape according to cutting length. 3-axis cutting farces are acquired from the tool dynamometer with high natural frequency, as the conventional tool dynamometer (9257B, Kistler) has cannot measure the state of high frequency force. Particularly, we found out that the axial cutting force waveform has a good relation with tool wear features. And flow is interrupted at the beginning of cutting by the decrease of rake angle. By above results. it is suggested the endmill tool with 45$^{\circ}$helix angle, 6 cutting edge and -15$^{\circ}$rake angle is suitable for high speed machining.
Monitoring of the chatter vibration is necessarily required to do automatic manufacturing system. Therefore, we constructed a sensing system using tool dynamometer in order to monitor of chatter vibration on cutting process. Furthemore, an application of neural network using behavior of principal cutting force signals Is attempted. With the error back propagation trining process, the neural network memorized and classified the feature of principal cutting force signals. From obtained result, it is shown that the chatter vibration can be monitored effectively by neural network.
