  • This study analyzed some of the discrepancies in quantitative and qualitative data focusing on cognitive and affective achievement in science education. Academic and affective achievement score of 308 high school students were collected as quantitative data, and 33 students were interviewed for qualitative data. We examined the causes and types of discrepancies in terms of testing tools. As a result from quantitative data, there were a large number of students with a big difference between subjects in cognitive achievement, and constructs in affective achievement. More than 20% of the students did not match tendency between achievements in two areas. Through interviews, some examples such as intentional control of science learning for future study and careers, different responses by differences in perception between school science and science, appeared. A comparison of quantitative data by testing tool between qualitative ones and interviews showed conflicting result, where most students evaluated themselves differently from their own quantitative data. That is due to the students' interaction with the testing tools. Two types of discrepancy related to testing tool are found. One is 'the concept difference between the item developer and students,' the other is 'the difference between students' exposed response and their real mindset.' These are related to the ambiguity of the terms used in the tool and response bias due to various causes. Based on this study, an effort is required to elaborate the testing item that matches students' actual perception and to apply students' science learning experience to testing items.

  • In this paper, we test for security targeting on APIs of Windows as that is used by many people worldwide. In order to test APIs in DLL fils of Windows OS, we propose Automated Windows API Fuzz Testing(AWAFT) that can execute fuzz testing automatically and implemented the practical tool for AWAFT. AWAFT focuses on buffer overflows and parsing errors of function parameters. Using the tool, we found 177 errors in the system folder of Windows XP SP2. Therefore, AWAFT is useful for security testing of Windows APIs. AWAFT can be applied to libraries of third party software in Windows OS for the security.

  • This paper presents the design and the implementation of CRESTIVE-DX, a concolic testing tool that distribute the concolic testing process over the embedded target system and the host system for efficient test generation of a target embedded program. CRESTIVE-DX conducts the execution of a target program on the target embedded system to consider possible machine-dependent behaviors of a target program execution, and conducts machine-independent parts, such as search-strategy heuristics, constraint solving, on host systems with high-speed computation unit, and coordinates their concurrent executions. CRESTIVE-DX is implemented by extending an existing concolic testing tool for C programs CREST. We conducted experiments with a test bed that consists of an embedded target system in the Arm Cortex A54 architecture and host systems in the x86-64 architecture. The results of experiments with Unix utility programs Grep, Busybox Awk, and Busybox Ed show that test input generation of CRESTIVE-DX is 1.59 to 2.64 times faster than that of CREST.

  • Railway signaling system is the vital control system in charge of the core for safely train operation, its functional safety must be checked through sufficient verification. Until now, to verify the interoperability of developed railway signaling system, the on-site testing approaches have been applied after testing in laboratory with simulator. This approaches are some limited range of interoperable verification, so more systematic verification interoperability is required. In this paper, the three phases of interoperability verification for railway signaling system was proposed, and methodology for each phases are represented. And also The interoperability validation methodology and supported testing tool for railway signaling system is represented in this paper

  • Although testing is usually done for purposes of assessment, previous research over the past 100 years indicates that testing is an effective tool for learning. Testing or retrieval practice of previously studied materials can enhance learning of that previously studied information and/or learning of subsequently presented new information. The former is referred to as the backward effect of testing whereas the latter is referred to as the forward effect of testing. Thus far, however, the literature has not isolated these two effects and most previous research focused on the backward effect. Only recent laboratory research provided evidence that there is a forward effect of testing. The present study provides a review of research on this forward and backward effect of testing, focusing on testing procedures of the effects, empirical evidence, current theoretical explanations, and issues to resolve in order to make use of testing effect in educational settings. The reviews clearly show that testing enhances memory of previously learned information by working as memory modifier and learning of newly presented information by affecting learners' metacognition, implying that testing is not just an assessment of learning, but also an effective tool for learning.

  • Recent advances in computer technology have brought more dependency on software to railway signalling system. While much efforts have been reported to evaluate embedded software safety for railway signalling systems, not so much systematic approaches to evaluate software safety testing. In this paper, we propose a adaption of automatic software testing tool in terms of the design & coding standard for railway signalling system. The test items for the design & coding standard suggested in this study related international standards and MISRA-C. It is anticipated that it will be greatly helpful for the evaluation on the software for railway signalling system.

  • ATM switching software should be required high reliability, functionality, extendability and maintainability. After development of the software, it is verified and tested by analyzer whether the software is accomplished the characteristics of it or not. There are so many CASE tools in other area, but the CHILL testing tools that can verify ATM softwares have not various functions are not many. In this paper we develop the testing tool which can evaluate and test CHILL programmed ATM software. This Tool supports testing reports, debugging informations and maintenance informations including parallel process about CHILL original programs.

  • A tool for analyzing and testing software in real-time is required for the efficient development of highly reliable real-time mobile embedded software This too] requires various technologies, such as source code based white-box test and real-time system monitoring and control. The tool also should be designed to improve reusability and portability by considering the interaction with other kinds of real-time system. This paper identifies and analyzes the functional requirements for the test tool on real-time mobile embedded software and suggests an adequate tool architecture based on the collected requirements. It also suggests the specific implementation technology and architecture design pattern to support the tool's expandability and portability.

  • As requirements of embedded system get complicated, the tool for analyzing the reliability of embedded software is being needed. A probabilistic modeling is used as the way of analyzing the reliability of a software and to apply it to embedded software controlling multiple devices. So, it is necessary to specialize that to embedded software. Also, existing reliability analyzers should measure the transition probability of each condition in different ways and doesn't consider reusing the model once used. In this paper, we suggest a reliability analyzer for embedded software using embedded software Markov chin model and a unit testing tool. Embedded software Markov chain model is model specializing Markov chain model which is used for analyzing reliability to an embedded software. And a unit testing tool has host-target structure which is appropriate to development environment of embedded software. This tool can analyze the reliability more easily than existing tool by automatically measuring the transition probability between units for analyzing reliability from the result of unit testing. It can also directly apply the test result updated by unit testing tool by representing software model as a XML oriented document and has the advantage that many developers can access easily using the web oriented interface and SVN store. In this paper, we show reliability analyzing of a example by so doing show usefulness of reliability analyzer.
