This paper I at determining the effect of cutter orienter the cutting environment on tool life, tool mechanism when down milling. In this paper, experiments were carried out in various tool and cutting environments, such as dry, wet compressed chilled air, tool life were measu evaluate machinability in high-speed milli difficult-to-cut material and die steel, Tool measured in horizontal upwards, horiz downwards, vertical upwards and vert downwards. In addition, tool life was measur dry, wet and compressed chilled air. For this a compressed chi1led-air system was manufact The results show that a horizontal cutter ori provided a longer tool life than a vertical orientation. With respect to the cutting envi compressed chilled air increased tool life. H the wet condition decreased tool life due thermal shock caused by excessive cooling high-speed mill ins and the compressed chilled had little effect.

  • The Advantages of hot machining are the reduction of cutting forces, tool wear, and the increase of material removal rates. In this study, a hot-machining using gas flame heating characteristics of milling by CBN tip was analyzed, and the influence of the surface temperature and the depth of cut on the tool life were investigated. The results show that hot machining of tungsten carbide-alloyed is more effective than conventional machining. In addition, some advantages obtained from hot machining, such as decrease of tool wear and cutting force, high surface quality.

  • Currently, for the damper case, the material produced by cast/forge welding is mechanically processed and then the final product is mass-produced. By cutting the cast/forge welded material, the issues of excessive cutting time, multiple process production, and a large amount of chips (40% loss from the original material) arise, causing increased production cost and reduced profitability. Thus, in this study, the incremental forming technology which generates no chips was applied in production. Analysis was excuted for 1st and 2nd works by change of tool diameter and working tool. For this, 3D molding and analysis were executed, which was applied to the processing the result, successful processing could be achieved through a few trials of molding processing according to tool forming and rotation counts.

  • Drilling is one of the most important operations performed in the machining industry. And the material of the workpiece has a profound effect on the tool life, the surface finish produced and the overall economy of the process. Hot-rolled high strength steels have been used for automobile structural material, owing to high hardness and machinability of the material. However, in the drilling of hot-rolled high strength steels, the current knowledge of tool wear and machinability are insuf-ficient. There, it is desirable to monitor drill wear status and hole quality changes during the hole drilling process. Accordingly, this paper deals with the cutting characteristics of the hot-rolled high strength steels using common HSS drill. The performance variables include the drilling thrust, torque and drill wear data obtained from drilling experiments con-ducted on the workpiece. Also drill were is measured by acoustic emission system and computer vision system.

  • A study for investigating the effects of the cutting conditions(feed rate, radial depth of cut, cutting speed) and the tool diameter on the circumferential geometry of the cyl indrically end-mi1led workpiece is described. In this work, the circumferential geometry is characterized by the roundness error. Experimental results show that the circumferential geometry is directly affected by the material removal per tooth, which is defined as a function of the cutting speed, the feed rate and the radial depth of cut. And, the radial depth of cut is revealed to be the most critical condition among them. It is also found that the roundness error decreases when the tool diameter is larger under the same cutting conditions.

  • Although conventional contour parallel tool paths obtained from geometric information have successfully been used to produce desired shapes, they seldom consider physical process concerns such as cutting forces and chatter. In this paper, we introduce an optimized contour parallel path that maintains a constant material removal rate at all times. The optimized tool path is based on a conventional contour parallel tool path. Additional tool path segments are appended to the basic path to achieve constant cutting forces and to avoid chatter vibrations over the entire machining area. The algorithm was implemented for two-dimensional contiguous end milling operations with flat end mills, and cutting tests were conducted to verify the performance of the proposed method.

  • In optmizing cutting condition for face milling operation, tool wear is an important maching factor. For the purpose of establishing the relationship between various maching factor and tool wear, cutting tests have been performed. As a result, hardness and chemical composition of workpiece material, chemical compositition and grain size of cutting tool and cutting speed have been selected as machining factor. In addition, relationship between feed rate and workpiece hardness has been observed. Prior to utilizing cutting condition recommended by 'Machining Data Hardbook(MDH)' as a Knowledge base, an analysis for the validity has been provided. Based on this analysis, tool life criteria applied by MDH has been modifiied. Finaly, using MDH recommended data for neural network trainning, we can compensate the result form the trained neural network for optimizing cutting condition for some given workpice and cutting tool.

  • Productivity and machining performance can be improved by cutting analysis including cutting force prediction, surface error prediction and machining stability evaluation. In order to perform cutting analysis, cutting force coefficients database have to be constructed. Since cutting force coefficients are dependent on cutting condition in the existing research, a large number of calibration tests are needed to obtain cutting force coefficients, which makes it difficult to build the cutting force coefficients database. This paper proposes a generalized method for constructing the cutting force coefficients database us ins cutting-condition-independent coefficients. The tool geometry and workpiece material were considered as important components for database construction. Cutting force coefficients were calculated and analyzed for various helix and rake angles as well as for several workpiece. Furthermore, the variation of cutting force coefficients according to tool wear was analyzed. Tool wear was found to affect tool geometry, which results in the change of cutting force coefficients.

  • CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) has been used many industries aerospace, automobile, medical device and building material industries, etc. Because it is lighter than other metals and has good properties, such as rigidity, strength and wear. CFRP may be cured integrity. However, it needs postprocessing similar to drilling or endmilling for shape cutting and combination of various material. In this paper, tool dynamometer and accelerometer used to signal analysis for machining properties under various cutting conditions and tool shape changes. In addition, microscope used to verify the machined CFRP surface. As the results, it was found that the cutting force and the vibration were decreased in the increasing of cutting edge (2-flute < 4-flute < composite tool), and the good machined surface can be obtained in this experiments.

  • Tool condition monitoring is one of the most important aspects to improve productivity and quality and to achieve intelligent machining system. The tool state is classified into three groups as chipping, wear and fracture. In this study, wear of a ceramic cutting tool for hardened die material (SKD11) was investigated. Flank wear was occured more dominant than crarer wear. Therefore, to predict flank wear, the modeling of cutting force has been performed. The modeling of cutting force by an assumption that act the stress distribution on the tool face obtained through a numerical analysis. The relationships between the cutting force and the tool wear can be constructed by machining paraneters with cutting conditions. Experiments were performed under the various cutting conditions to ensure the validity of force models. The theoretical predictions of the flank wear is approximately in good agreement with experimental result.
