Hemming Process Design of the Permalloy Shielding Can for the Stiffness (퍼멀로이 실딩캔의 강성증대를 위한 헤밍공정 설계)

  • In the recent day, shielding can was made of permalloy materials for automobile display instrument. The good roundness has an effect on magnetic property such as the low coercivity and the high permeability. But the products having the roundness is transformed by the heat treatment, the sending to the company and the assembly process. So for the stiffness of the edge, it is necessary for hemming process to be added in the deep drawing process. And it has the good appearance to create a smooth edge rather than a razor edge with urr. In this paper, it is controlled to get the best hemming product by the Pre-hemming angle($105^{\circ}$, $120^{\circ}$, $135^{\circ}$). And Possible process and tool design modification, which may lead to quality improvement in hemming were tested experimentally and using FEM. The commercial finite element program PAM-STAMPTM was used to simulate the pre-hemming process and hemming process, and the predictions were compared with experimental results according to the pre-hemming angle.

  • Base-mounted type(BMT) driving assembly in CNC machine tools is an indispensable part to improve productivity by reducing tool changeover time and to meet the ever-increasing demand of precision machine tools. This study aimed to perform finite element analysis and geometric parameter optimization to improve the efficiency of BMT driving assembly. First, simulations for three-dimensional structural and vibration analysis were performed using ANSYS/Workbench on the initial geometric models of BMT driving assembly. After analyzing stress and deformation concentration zones, several new geometrical models were designed and evaluated by design of experiments and ANSYS/DesignXplorer. Through a series of analysis-evaluation-modification cycles, it was seen that designed models were effective in determining optimal geometry of BMT driving assembly.

Schemes to enhance the integrity of P91 steel reheat steam pipe of a high-temperature thermal plant (고온 화력 P91강 재열증기배관의 건전성 제고 방안)

  • A number of so-called 'Type IV' cracking was reported to occur at the welded joints of the P91 steel or P92 steel reheat steam piping systems in Korean supercritical thermal power plants. The reheat steam piping systems are subjected to severe thermal and pressure loading conditions of coolant higher than 570℃ and 4MPa, respectively. In this study, piping analyses and design evaluations were conducted for the piping system of a specific thermal plant in Korea and suggestions were made how structural integrity could be improved so that type IV cracks at the welded joints could be prevented. Integrity evaluations were conducted as per ASME B31.1 code with implicit consideration of creep effects which was used in original design of the piping system and as per nuclear-grade RCC-MRx code with explicit consideration of creep effects. Comparisons were made between the evaluation results from the two design rules. Another approach with modification or reduction of the redundant supports in the piping systems was investigated as a tool to mitigate thermal stresses which should essentially contribute to prevention of Type IV cracking without major modification of the existing piping systems. In addition, a post weld heat treatment method and repair weld method which could improve integrity of the welded joint of P91 steel were investigated.

  • A new method of optimal blank shape design using the initial nodal velocity (INOV) has been proposed for the drawings of arbitrary shaped cups. With the given information of tool shape and the final product shape, corresponding initial blank shape has been found from the motion of boundary nodes. Although the sensitivity method, the past work of Hynbo Shim and Kichan Son, has been proved to be excellent method to find optimal blank shapes, the method has a problem that a couple of deformation analysis is required at each design step and it also exhibits an abnormal behaviors in the rigid body rotation prevailing region. In the present method INOV, only a single deformation analysis per each design stage is required. Drawings of practical products as well as oil-pan have been chosen as the examples. At every case the optimal blank shapes have been obtained only after a few times of modification without predetermined deformation path. The deformed shape with predicted optimal blank almost coincides with the target shape at every case. Through the investigation the INOV is found to be very effective in the arbitrary shaped drawing process design.

  • Electronic components that are used in high-level radiation environment require a semiconductor device having a radiation-hardened characteristic. In this paper, we proposed a radiation-hardened I-gate n-MOSFET (n-type Metal Oxide Semiconductors Field Effect Transistors) using a layout modification technique only. The proposed I-gate n-MOSFET structure is modified as an I-shaped gate poly in order to mitigate a radiation-induced leakage current in the standard n-MOSFET structure. For verification of its radiation-hardened characteristic, the M&S (Modeling and Simulation) of the 3D (3-Dimension) structure is performed by TCAD (Technology Computer Aided Design) tool. In addition, we carried out an evaluation test using a $Co^{60}$ gamma-ray source of 10kGy(Si)/h. As a result, we have confirmed the radiation-hardened level up to a total ionizing dose of 20kGy(Si).

  • As computer-related technologies have been developed, legacy design systems have not been appropriate for new computing environment. Therefore, it is necessary that most of them are either modified or newly developed. However, this requires quite much amount of cost and time. This paper presents a method of extending legacy design system without modification using XML and XSLT. In order to apply the developed method, a good example of legacy design systems, AGMA gear rating system has been extended so as to be suitable for the distributed computing environment. An XML document for AGMA gear rating process is defined. It is transformed to the form of the input document of AGMA gear rating system by XSLT processor according to the transformation rules defined in the AGMA gear rating XSLT document. After that, AGMA gear rating system reads this input document and generates an output document in the server. These operations are automatically executed by the external legacy system controller without user interactions. Using these operations, AGMA gear rating web service has been developed based on SOAP and WSDL to provide the functions of legacy AGMA gear rating system through the distributed network. Any system or user can implement AGMA gear rating process independently to the platform type, without making it for oneself, by simply referring the AGMA gear rating web service via Internet.

  • n this thesis CAM(content Addressable Memory) generator and graphic display tool for run-plot sequence in automatic generation of CAM are presented. We show that implementing the layout generation, graphic menu, mouse driver, and data structure by using the basic classes is clear and easy in modification than the conventional procedural language. For the implementation of generator which is independent of design rule or process, we use the parameterized cell so that basic cell can be changed according to user's inputs. and perform the layout by means of placement and routing using pitch mathching. Finally, the display of CIF which generated and constitution of graphic menu for total run-plot sequence are explained.

  • To investigate the behaviour of the embankment on very soft foundation reinforced geotex- files,the laboratory model test in order to analyze the elementary effects of geotextile reinfor- cement and the finite element program analyzing the stresses and deformations characteristics was carried out. A two-dimensional nonlinear finite element program called GEOTEXT(a modification of ISBILD) for the static analysis of embankment on very soft foundation reinforced geotextiles has been developed. Both linear and nonlinear hyperbolic stress-strain soil models are inclu- ded, and incremental and stage construction can be simulated. However, the program GEO- TEXT is not developed herein as an adaptable design tool for practicing engineer. It was found that the geotextile reinforcement significantly reduced the shear stresses in the foundation and decreased the vertical differential settlements at the top of the embank- ment. This influence was more pronounced as the tensile strength of the geotextile was increased.

  • The purpose of this study is to reduced the weight of ladder boom and to improve the manufactor process by the section modification. The Conventional model consists of integral section stiffener, while the proposed model consists of truss type stiffener to reduce the weight of ladder boom and wind effector. In the two analysis models, one is based on the single boom, and the other is based in the coupling model of two booms. We present the analysis results for the case when applying the weight, bending and twisting moment and wind pressure. Finally, a comparison between these results is presented to show the performance of our method.
