  • Experimental modal analysis is an effective tool to investigate the dynamic behavior of machining centers. This paper presents the measurement system and experimental investigation on the modal analysis of machining centers. The modal analysis shows the weak part of the machining center. An important local model of spindle in our experiment, which influences the dynamics of machining process, is proposed in this paper. The results provide the foundation of structure modification for good dynamic behaviors.

  • Micromachining technology using a ultra-precision micromachining system is widely applied in the fields of optics, biotechnology and analytical chemistry, etc. specially in microfabrication of fresnel lens, light guide panels of TFT-LED and PDP ribs with micro-patterns, machining errors have an effect on the performance of those products. The deflection of tool and tool holder is known to be one of the very important factors that is due to machining errors in micromachining. The deflections of diamond tool and tool holder used in micro-grooving are analysed by FEM. We analysed by FEM. With an linearity valuation of FEM, deflection of tool and tool holder is calculated by using the data of cutting force which is acquired from micro-V groove machining experiments in micromachining system.

  • The finite element method is applied to analyze the mechanism of metal cutting. This paper introduces some effects, such constitutive deformation laws of workpiece material, friction of tool-chip contact interfaces, tool rake angles and also simulate the cutting process, chip formation and geometry, tool-chip contact, reaction force of tool, cutting temperature. Under the usual [lane strain assumption, quasi-static analysis were performed with variation of tool-chip interface friction coefficients and rake angles. In this analysis, various cutting speeds and depth of cut are adopted. Some cutting parameters are affected to cutting force, plastic deformation of chip, shear plane angle, chip thickness and tool-chip contact length and reaction forces on tool. Cutting temperature and Thermal behavior. Several aspects of the metal cutting process predicted by the finite element analysis provide information about tool shape design and optimal cutting conditions.

  • In this paper, thermo-viscoplastic finite element analysis of the effect of tool edge radius on cutting process are performed. The thermo-viscoplastic cutting model is capable of dealing with free chip geometry and chip-tool contact length. The coupling with thermal effects is also considered. Orthogonal cutting experiments are performed for 0.2% carbon steel with tools having 3 different edge radii and the tool forces are measured. The experimental results are discussed in comparison with the results of the FEM analysis. From the study, we confirm that this cutting model can well be applied to the cutting process considered the tool edge radius and that a major causes of the "size effect" is the tool edge radius. With numerical analysis, the effects of the tool edge radius on the stress distributions in workpiece, the temperature distributions in workpiece and tool, and the chip shape are investigated.estigated.

  • In this paper, finite element method was used for flow and strength analysis of AZ31 magnesium alloy under friction stir welding. The simulations were carried out by SYSWELD s/w, and the modeling of sheet was doned by unigraphics NX3 s/w. Welding variables for analysis were rotating speed and welding speed of tool. Also two-way factorial design method was applied to confirm the effect of welding variables on maximum temperature and stress of material used. From these results, the increaser welding speed of tool the decreaser maximum temperature, but the increaser maximum stress. Also the increaser rotating speed of tool the increaser maximum temperature, but the decreaser maximum stress. In addition the increaser welding speed of tool and the decreaser rotating speed of tool, the narrower heat effect zone. Finally rotating speed of tool influenced on maximum temperature more than welding speed of tool, and welding speed of tool influenced on maximum stress more than rotating speed of tool from the variance analysis.

  • Finite Element analysis is widely applied to elevated temperature forging processes and shows a lot of information of plastic deformation such as strain, stress, defects, damages and temperature distributions. In highly elevated temperature deformation processes, temperature of material and tool have significant influence on tool life, deformation conditions and productivities. To predict temperature related properties accurately, adequate coefficients of not only contact heat transfer between material and dies but also convection heat transfer due to coolants are required. In most F.E analysis, too higher value of contact heat transfer coefficient is usually applied to get acceptable temperature distribution of tool. For contact heat transfer coefficients between die and workpiece, accurate values were evaluated with different pressure and lubricants conditions. But convection heat transfer coefficients have not been investigated for forging lubricants. In this research, convection heat transfer coefficients for cooling by emulsion lubricants are suggested by experiment and Inverse method. To verify acquired convection and contact heat transfer coefficients, tool temperature was measured for the comparison between measured tool temperature and analysis results. To increase analysis accuracy, repeated analysis scheme was applied till temperature of the tool got to be in the steady-state conditions. Verification of heat transfer coefficients both contact and convection heat transfer coefficients was proven with good accordance between measurement and analysis.

The new developed handling tool of NPP(Nuclear Power Plant) should be conformed the structural stability under earthquake condition. In this study, the stress and seismic analysis of the handling tool are performed by finite element method. Using the Floor Response Spectrum(FRS) obtained through the time history analysis, the modal and seismic analysis under Operating Basis Earthquake(OBE) and Safe Shutdown Earthquake(SSE) load conditions are carried out. Total 4 cases of different locations of the trolly and the hook are investigated. With the spring-damper element, the tension analysis of hoist rope is conducted. The stability of handling tool under earthquake load condition is conformed with regulatory guide.

  • Few studies on the biomechanical analysis of hand postures and tool handling tasks exist because of the lack of appropriate measurement techniques for hand force. A measurement system for the finger forces and joint angles for the analysis of manual tool handling tasks was developed in this study. The measurement system consists of a force sensing glove made from twelve Force Sensitive Resistors and an angle-measuring glove (Cyberglove$^{TM}$, Virtual technologies) with eighteem joint angle sensors. A biomechanical model of the hand using the data from the measurement system was also developed. Systems of computerized procedures were implemented inte- grating the hand posture measurement system, biomechanical analysis system, and the task analysis system for manual tool handling tasks. The measurement system was useful in providing the hand force data needed for an existing task analysis system used in CTD risk evaluation. It is expected that the hand posture measurement developed in this study will provide an efficient and cost-effective solution to task analysis of manual tool handling tasks.s.
