The syllable frequency effect is defined as the inhibitory effect that words starting with high frequency syllable generate a longer lexical decision latency and a larger error rate than words starting with low frequency syllable do. Researchers agree that the reason of the inhibitory effect is the interference from syllable neighbors sharing a target's first syllable at the lexical level and the degree of the interference effect correlates with the number of syllable neighbors or stronger syllable neighbors which have a higher word frequency. However, although the syllable frequency can be classified as the syllable type and token frequency, previous studies in visual word recognition have used the syllable frequency without the classification. Recently Conrad, Carreiras, & Jacobs (2008) demonstrated that the syllable type frequency might reflect a sub-lexical processing level including matching from letters to syllables and the syllable token frequency might reflect competitions between a target and higher frequency words of syllable neighbors in the whole word lexical processing level. Therefore, the present study investigated their proposals using word naming tasks. Generally word naming tasks are more sensitive to sub-lexical processing. Thus, the present study expected a facilitative effect of high syllable type frequency and a null effect of high syllable token frequency. In Experiment 1, words starting with high syllable type frequency generated a faster naming latency than words starting with low syllable type frequency with holding syllable token frequency of them. In Experiment 2, high syllable token frequency also created a shorter naming time than low syllable token frequency with holding their syllable type frequency. For that reason, we rejected the propose of Conrad et al. and suggested that both type and token syllable frequency could relate to the sub-lexical processing.

Token coherence protocol has many good reasons against snooping/directory-based protocol in terms of latency, bandwidth, and complexity. Token counting easily maintains correctness of the protocol without global ordering of request which is basis of other dominant cache coherence protocols. But this lack of global ordering causes starvation which is not happening in snooping/directory-based protocols. Token coherence protocol solves this problem by providing an emergency mechanism called persistent request. It enforces other processors in the competition (or accessing same shared memory block, to give up their tokens to feed a starving processor. However, as the number of processors grows in a system, the frequency of starvation occurrence increases. In other words, the situation where persistent request occurs becomes too frequent to be emergent. As the frequency of persistent requests increases, not only the cost of each persistent matters since it is based on broadcasting to all processors, but also the increased traffic of persistent requests will saturate the bandwidth of multiprocessor interconnection network. This paper proposes a new request mechanism that defines order of requests to reduce occurrence of persistent requests. This ordering mechanism has been designed to be decentralized since centralized mechanism in both snooping-based protocol and directory-based protocol is one of primary reasons why token coherence protocol has advantage in terms of latency and bandwidth against these two dominant Protocols.
This study investigated whether listeners' perceptual patterns varied according to base token selected for stimuli manipulation. Voice onset time (VOT) and fundamental frequency (F0) values were orthogonally manipulated, each in seven steps, using naturally produced words that contained a lenis (/kan/) and an aspirated (/khan/) stop in Seoul Korean. Both native and non-native groups showed significantly higher numbers of aspirated responses for the stimuli constructed with /khan/, evidencing the use of minor cues left in the stimuli after manipulation. For the native group the use of the VOT and F0 cues in the stop categorization did not differ depending on whether the base token included the lenis or aspirated stop, indicating that the results of previous studies remain tenable that investigated the relative importance of the acoustic cues in the native listener perception of the Korean stop contrasts by using one base token for manipulating perceptual stimuli. For the non-native group, the use patterns of the F0 cue differed as a function of base token selected. Some findings indicated that listeners used alternative cues to identify the stop contrast when major cues sound ambiguous. The use of the manipulated VOT and F0 cues by the non-native group was not native-like, suggesting that non-native listeners may have perceived the minor cues as stable in the context of the manipulated cue combinations.

This paper proposes a method for designing a large recording script for open domain English speech synthesis. For read-aloud style text, 12 domains and 294 sub-domains were designed using text contained in five different news media publications. For conversational style text, 4 domains and 36 sub-domains were designed using movie subtitles. The final script consists of 43,013 sentences, 27,085 read-aloud style sentences, and 15,928 conversational style sentences, consisting of 549,683 tokens and 38,356 types. The completed script is analyzed using four criteria: word coverage (type coverage and token coverage), high-frequency vocabulary coverage, phonetic coverage (diphone coverage and triphone coverage), and readability. The type coverage of our script reaches 36.86% despite its low token coverage of 2.97%. The high-frequency vocabulary coverage of the script is 73.82%, and the diphone coverage and triphone coverage of the whole script is 86.70% and 38.92%, respectively. The average readability of whole sentences is 9.03. The results of analysis show that the proposed method is effective in producing a large recording script for English speech synthesis, demonstrating good coverage in terms of unique words, high-frequency vocabulary, phonetic units, and readability.
We developed a multicast communication packet radio protocol using a time-sharing tablet system ("wireless token ring") to achieve the efficient exchange of files among packet radio terminals attached to swans. This paper provides an overview of the system and the protocol of the packet communications. The packet device forming the main part of the transceiver developed is the Texas Instruments CC2500. This device consists of one call-up channel and one data transmission channel and could improve error frame correction using FEC (forward error correction) with 34.8 kbps MSK and receiving power of at least -64 dBm (output 1 dBm at distance of 200 m using 3 dBi antenna). A time-sharing framework was determined for the wireless token ring using call sign ordinals to prevent transmission right loss. Tests using eight stations showed that resend requests with the ARQ (automatic repeat request) system are more frequent for a receiving power supply of -62 dBm or less. A wireless token ring system with fixed transmission times is more effective. This communication protocol is useful in cases in which frequency resources are limited; the energy consumed is not dependent on the transmission environment (preset transmission times); multiple terminals are concentrated in a small area; and information (position data and vital data) is shared among terminals under circumstances in which direct communication between a terminal and the center is not possible. The method allows epidemiological predictions of avian influenza infection routes based on vital data and relationships among individual birds based on the network topology recorded by individual terminals. This communication protocol is also expected to have applications in the formation of multiple in vivo micromachines or terminals that are inserted into living organisms.

The current Private 5G use procedure goes through the step of application examination, use and usage inspection, and can be divided in to application, examination step as a procedure before frequency allocation, and use, usage inspection step as a procedure after frequency allocation. Various types of documents are required to apply for a Private 5G, and due to the document screening process and radio station inspection for using Private 5G frequencies, the procedure for Private 5G applicants to use Private 5G is complicated and takes a considerable amount of time. In this paper, we proposed Frequency Allocation Process for Private 5G using a blockchain platform, which is fast and simplified than the current procedure. Through the use of a blockchain platform and NFT (Non-Fungible Token), reliability and integrity of the data required in the frequency allocation process were secured, and security of frequency usage information was maintained and a reliable Private 5G frequency allocation process was established. Also by applying the RPA system that minimizes human intervention, fairness was secured in the process of allocating Private 5G. Finally, the frequency allocation process of Private 5G based on the Ethereum blockchain was performed though a simulation.
It is becoming hard to maintain web applications because of high complexity and duplication of web pages. However, most of research about code clone is focusing on code hunks, and their target is limited to a specific language. Thus, we propose GSIM, a language-independent statistical approach to detect similar pages based on scarcity and frequency of customized tokens. The tokens, which can be obtained from pages splitted by a set of given separators, are defined as atomic elements for calculating similarity between two pages. In this paper, the domain definition for web applications and algorithms for collecting tokens, making matrics, calculating similarity are given. We also conducted experiments on open source codes for evaluation, with our GSIM tool. The results show the applicability of the proposed method and the effects of parameters such as threshold, toughness, length of tokens, on their quality and performance.
This paper makes a quantitative analysis of the diachronic evolution of ancient Chinese vocabulary by constructing and counting a large-scale rough annotated corpus. The texts from Si Ku Quan Shu (a collection of Chinese ancient books) are automatically segmented to obtain ancient Chinese vocabulary with time information, which is used to the statistics on word frequency, standardized type/token ratio and proportion of monosyllabic words and dissyllabic words. Through data analysis, this study has the following four findings. Firstly, the high-frequency words in ancient Chinese are stable to a certain extent. Secondly, there is no obvious dissyllabic trend in ancient Chinese vocabulary. Moreover, the Northern and Southern Dynasties (420-589 AD) and Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368 AD) are probably the two periods with the most abundant vocabulary in ancient Chinese. Finally, the unique words with high frequency in each dynasty are mainly official titles with real power. These findings break away from qualitative methods used in traditional researches on Chinese language history and instead uses quantitative methods to draw macroscopic conclusions from large-scale corpus.

Variable length code is an integral component of many international standards on image and video compression currently. Context-based Adaptive Variable Length Coding(CAVLC) is adopted by the emerging JVT(also called H.264, and AVC in MPEG-4). In this paper, we design an architecture for CAVLC encoder, including a coeff_token encoder, level encoder, total_zeros encoder and run_before encoder. The designed CAVLC encoder can encode one syntax element in one clock cycle. As a result of implementation by Vertex-1000e of Xilinx, its operation frequency is 68MHz. Therefore, it is very suitable for video applications that require high throughput.

In this paper, we propose user authentication methods using a microphone and a speaker in smart phones. The proposed methods guarantee that the user is located close to the target device by transmitting the challenge via an audio channel. We propose two authentication methods; user authentication for a PC or a website using a smart phone as a hardware token, and user authentication to log on to a smart phone using a PC as a token. Because our methods use typical peripheral devices such as a microphone and a speaker, they do not require any special-purpose hardware equipment. In addition, the elderly and the handicapped can easily use our methods because the methods are activated by simple operations.
