Oxygen reduction and control of surface oxide on titanium by calcium reductant (칼슘과의 반응에 의한 타이타늄 분말 표면의 산화층 제어 및 산소 저감)

  • 티타늄에 있어서 주요 침입형 원소인 산소는 결함을 일으키는 원인으로 산소함량을 줄이는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 최근 가장 많이 이용되는 탈산 방법은 칼슘 및 칼슘염화물의 높은 산소 친화력을 이용하는 것이다. 칼슘염화물 플럭스를 사용하여 칼슘을 용해하고, 티타늄과 반응한 탈산생성물인 칼슘산화물을 플럭스 내에 용해시키는 방법이다. 이러한 방법으로 티타늄 와이어 및 시트 내 산소를 저감한 연구가 보고되었다. 티타늄 탈산의 제일 큰 구동력은 티타늄 내 산소원자의 확산이다. 티타늄의 탈산온도가 1,155K 이상으로 증가하면 hcp에서 bcc 구조로 변태되는데 이러한 구조에서 산소의 확산은 더 활발해진다. 실제로 티타늄의 변태온도 이전에서는 확산속도가 낮아서 큰 변화가 없지만, 1,273K 고온의 bcc 구조에서는 확산속도가 빨라서 그 이전에 비해 100배 이상 빠르게 원자 이동이 일어나는 것으로 알려져 있다. 하지만 이러한 탈산 방법은 티타늄 원재료가 벌크 형태에서 주로 연구되었으며 티타늄 분말에 대한 탈산 연구는 보고된 바가 많지 않다. 이는 높은 탈산온도에서 칼슘의 용해로 인한 분말의 건전한 회수가 어렵기 때문이다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 본 연구진은 칼슘 증기를 이용한 비접촉식 탈산 용기를 제작하여 티타늄 분말을 변태온도 이상에서 탈산하여 1,000ppm 이하 저산소 티타늄 분말을 회수하였다. 칼슘을 이용한 티타늄 내 산소의 제거 메커니즘을 깁스자유에너지와 각각의 분압에 의해 설명하고 있다. 가장 일반적인 설명은 티타늄 내 산소가 탈산온도에 따라 확산하게 되며 이러한 산소는 티타늄의 표면에서 티타늄 산화층을 형성한다. 이때 탈산제인 칼슘의 높은 산소 친화력으로 티타늄 산화층은 분해되어 칼슘산화물을 형성한다. 이러한 과정으로 티타늄 내 산소가 제거되는 것으로 알려져 있다. 하지만 많은 탈산 연구에도 불구하고 대부분의 연구 보고에서는 탈산 전후의 산소 농도 변화만 측정하였으며, 실제적으로 티타늄 탈산 전후의 표면산화층의 변화, 티타늄 내부의 산소농도 변화 및 격자 변형에 대한 연구는 보고된 바 없다. 따라서 본 연구는 1,000 ppm 이하 저산소 티타늄 분말 제조에 있어서 탈산 전후 표면 산화층 및 내부 산소 농도 등을 분석하여 탈산 거동에 대해 관찰하였다. 본 연구에서 비접촉식 탈산용기를 이용하여 칼슘 증기에 의한 탈산에 의하여 1,000 ppm 이하 저산소 티타늄 분말 제조하였고, 탈산된 분말을 티타늄 원재료와 비교하여 표면 산화층, 격자 변형, 내부 산소 농도 등을 분석하여 탈산에 따른 산소 거동을 살펴보았다. 탈산된 티타늄 분말의 표면 산화층은 원재료 대비 73% 제거되어 약 3nm로 줄었음을 확인하였고, 또한 표면 산화층 감소뿐만 아니라 티타늄 분말 내부에서도 원재료보다 산소 농도가 감소하였음을 확인하였다.

  • 여러 연구들을 통해 많은 학자들이 임프란트 안정성(stability)은 표면의 특징에 달려있다고 생각하게 되었다. 표면의 구조, 에너지, 산화물(oxide) 두께와 표면성상(topography)등 임프란트의 표면의 특징은 임프란트와 골조직의 반응에서 중요한 역할을 하는 것이 알려짐에 따라 티타뮨 임프란트의 표면의 처리 방법에 큰 관심을 가지게 되었다. 그 중에서 티타늄 임프란트 표면의 산화피막화(anodization)가 한 방법으로 대두되었다. 이 방법은 전기화학적 방식으로 임프란트 표면에 거칠고(rough)두꺼우며(thick), 기공(pore)을 가지는 산화물 막을 형성하는 것으로 산화물의 두께는 coronal 부분(l-2 ${\mu}m$)으로부터 apical부분(7-10 ${\mu}m$)까지 증가하게 된다. 산화피막의 표면에는 다양한 크기의 수많은 기공이 주로 1-2 ${\mu}m$ 두께로 임프란트의 apical 부분에서 존재하며, 임프란트 표면의 거칠기는 conical 위부분에서 apical 부분까지 계속 증가한다(평균 Ra value=1.2 ${\mu}m$). 또 다른 표면 처리 방법으로는 blasting 후에 etching을 한 SLA 표면이 있다. 이 연구의 목적은 일반적으로 많이 이용되고 있는 anodized 표면과 SLA 표면의 조직학적 반응을 비교 분석하는 것이다. 24개 임프란트를(anodized surfaced implant-12개 , SLA-12개, 8mm ${\times}\;{\Phi}$ 4.3) 6마리 토끼의 오른쪽과 왼쪽 femur에 식립하였다. 12주후에 동물들을 희생하여 EXACT cutting-grinding system을 이용하여 샘플을 절단하고 800, 1200 및 4000 번 연마제(abrasive) paper로 20-50 ${\mu}m$ 까지 grinding하였다. 샘플은 Multiple staining 용액으로 염색하여 SLA 임프란트 군과 비교하였다. 골과 임프란트 사이에 연결을 TDI 프로그램을 이용하여 %로 측정하였다. SLA 임프란트 군 경우에는 골과 임프란트 사이의 연결이 $74{\pm}19%$ 이고, 양극 산화한 임프란트 군 경우에는 $77{\pm}9%$이었다. 양극 산화한 티타늄 임프란트의 골 접촉률이 SLA 표면 임프란트 경우과 통계학적으로 유의한 차이는 보이지 않았다.

An Analysis of the Characteristics of Glass Beads from the Joseon Dynasty Using Non-destructive Analysis (비파괴 분석을 활용한 조선시대 유리구슬의 특성 분석)

  • This paper examined the visible characteristics and chemical composition of glass beads from the Joseon Dynasty as well as the associations thereof. It also explored the characteristics and uses of glass beads by region. This study covered a total of 1,819 pieces excavated from 25 locations in the Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, and Gyeongsang regions, of which 537 pieces were analyzed for their chemical composition. Glass beads of the Joseon Dynasty take a variety of shapes such as a Round, Coil, Floral, Segmented, Flat, Oval, and Calabash. Colors vary from shades of brown (brown, lemon yellow) and shades of blue (Bluish-Green, greenish-Blue, Purple-Blue) to shades of white (colorless, white) and shades of green (Green, Greenish-Blue, Greenish-Brown). Brown accounts for the largest percentage, followed by Bluish-Green, greenish-Blue. It was identified that Drawing technique was the most common glass bead production technique of the Joseon Dynasty. Potassium oxide (K2O) was the most common flux agent for glass beads, while the potash glass and mixed alkali glass groups account for the largest quantity. The choice of stabilizers depended on the type of flux agents used, but the most common were calcium oxide (CaO) and aluminum oxide (Al2O3). The potash glass and potash lead glass groups are high in CaO and low in Al2O3, the mixed alkali glass group is high in CaO, and the lead glass group is low in CaO. In terms of the association between color and shape, most of the beads with shade of brown and blue have round shapes of brown and blue have spherical shapes, while the coil shape is prominent in blue beads. A high percentage of green and colorless beads also take the shape of a coil, while white beads in general have a floral shape. In terms of the association between shape and chemical composition, round, floral and segmented shapes account for a high percentage of the potash glass group, while coil and flat shapes are common in the mixed alkali glass group. This paper also analyzed the colorants for each color based on the association between color and chemical composition. Iron (Fe) was used as the colorant for brown and white, and titanium (Ti) and iron were used for light yellow. Purple-Blue was produced by by cobalt (Co), and greenish-Blue, Bluish-Green, green, Greenish-Blue were produced by iron and copper (Cu). Colorless beads had a generally low colorant content.

A Study of Waterproofing Evaluation and Effect of UV Protection (UVB/UVA) of Multiple Emulsion Sunblock Cream using Sensory Engeeneering Science (감성공학을 적용한 다중에멀젼 선블록크림의 자외선차단(UVA/B) 효과와 내수성 평가 연구)

  • This study is about the UV protection effect and water resistance of a multiple emulsion (W/O/W) sunblock cream applied with emotional engineering and reports an actual industrial case. Multiple emulsion system of sunblock cream has the characteristics of changing to a W/O type that is soft and moist when applied, and has excellent water resistance after absorption. Multiple emulsion cream is a highly functional sunblock cream that has both moisture and water resistance. It is a stable milky white cream with a viscosity of 36,000 cps. The organic sunscreen used for the sunscreen was ethylhexylmethoxycinnamate and bisethylhexyloxyphenolmethoxyphenyltriazine. Hexagonal zinc oxide and titanium dioxide that block both UVB and UVA were used. As a result of measuring the UV protection effect by the in-vitro method, the UV protection effect (SPF) is 78.9 for multiple emulsion cream, 76.7 for W/O cream, and 71.3 for O/W cream. It was found that the blocking effect was different. This obtained the highest effect value in the multiple emulsion. As a clinical (in-vivo) result of the UV protection effect, the SPF value representing the UV protection effect of the sunblock cream developed with a multiple emulsion system was 85.7, and the PA-value that blocks the UVA area was 26.5, and ++++. It was found that it has a corresponding high blocking effect. As a result of the water resistance test, the W/O/W formulation had a high waterproofing resistance of 93.8% even after 4 hours, W/O had 75.4%, and O/W had a low water resistance of 25.3%. In the results of the HUT test, it was found in the order of multiple emulsion sun block cream > hydrophilic cream > lipophilic cream. Based on the research results of this multiple emulsion, it is expected to be highly active as a sunblock cream dedicated to outdoor activities by improving the feeling of use, UV protection index, and water resistance. Therefore, in this study, a multiple emulsion system of sunblock cream is developed and has a characteristic that changes to a W/O type that has a soft and moist feeling when applied, and has excellent water resistance after absorption.

A Study on the Material Characteristics and Functionality Evaluation of a Size Layer of a Canvas (캔버스 차단층(Size Layer)의 재료특성 및 기능평가 연구)

  • Despite the size layer is an important part for conserving the artworks in the configuration of oil painting, the conservation scientific approaches of that have not been made yet. Therefore, this study produced standard samples on the basis of the analysis results of oil painting works, and carried out the evaluation of functions of the size layer materials. As a result of literature material, traditionally, animal glue was used for the size layer, whereas synthetic resin have been used in combination with animal glue since the modern age, in particular, it was identified that Polyvinyl Acetate(PVAc) was in general use. As a result of analysis of oil painting works, size layer was detected on the support and it was identified as animal glue. As a result of analysis based on Funaoka canvas for ground, it showed that the lead oxide and the titanium dioxide were the main constituents. On the basis of these results, standard samples were produced. As a result of evaluation on the functions of the size layer materials, in the case of the animal glue, stable result was observed in the shrinkag expansion rate, whereas slight weakness was observed in moisture proofing, color, and tensile strength, and dense cracks were found on surface. As for PVAc(A), moisture proofing, color, and the tensile strength exhibited stable results. Higher shrinkage rate was observed and the cracks with wide gaps were found on surface. As for PVAc(B), tensile strength, shrinkage expansion rate, and surface observation showed stable results, whereas moisture proofing property showed poor results. Different aspects were observed in each experiment, and this phenomena were considered to be due to the density and the adhesion properties between the hydrophilic and hydrophobic molecules in the size layer materials. The results are expected to be used as materials for the oil painting work conservation henceforth.

Optimization for Underwater Welding of Marine Steel Plates (선박용 강판의 수중 용접 최적화에 관한 연구)

  • Optimizing investigation of characteristics of underwater welding by a gravity type arc welding process was experimentally carried out by using six types of domestic coated welding electrodes for welding of domestic marine structural steel plates (KR Grade A-1, SWS41A, SWS41B,) in order to develop the underwater welding techniques in practical use. Main results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The absorption speed of the coating of domestic coated lime titania type welding-electrode became constant at about 60 minutes in water and it was about 0.18%/min during initial 8 minutes of absorption time. 2. Thus, the immediate welding electrode could be used in underwater welding for such a short time in comparison with the joint strength of in-atmosphere-and on-water-welding by dry-, wet-or immediate-welding-electrode. 3. By bead appearance and X-ray inspection, ilmenite, limetitania and high titanium oxide types of electrodes were found better for underwater-welding of 10 mm KR Grade A-1 steel plates, while proper welding angle, current and electrode diameter were 6$0^{\circ}C$, above 160A and 4mm respectively under 28cm/min of welding speed. 4. The weld metal tensile strength or proof stress of underwater-welded-joints has a quadratic relationship with the heat input, and the optimal heat input zone is about 13 to 15KJ/cm for 10mm SWS41A steel plates, resulting from consideration upon both joint efficiency of above-100% and recovery of impact strength and strain. Meanwhile, the optimal heat input zone resulting from tension-tension fatigue limit above the base metal's of SWS41A plates is 16 to 19KJ/cm. Reliability of all the empirical equations reveals 95% confidence level. 6. The microstructure of the underwater welds of SES41A welded in such a zone has no weld defects such as hydrogen brittleness with supreme high hardness, since the HAZ-bond boundary area adjacent to both surface and base metal has only Hv400 max with the microstructure of fine martensite, bainite, pearlite and small amount of ferrite.

The Study on Preparation and Characterization of Yellow Ceramic Pigment (황색세라믹안료의 제조 및 특성연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to manufacture a high-performance titanium yellow pigment. Anatase type $TiO_2$ was the skeleton of the pigment and $Sb_2O_3$ is used as the color assistant for the coloring agent, $Cr_2O_3$. Mixed raw materials for the pigment were $TiO_2$(98%), $Sb_2O_3$(99.5%), and $Cr_2O_3$(99.5%). The raw materials were mixed by a dry process and crystallized by calcination at $1,000{\sim}1,200^{\circ}C$. The crystalline material was pulverized in a Jar Mill under $1{\mu}m$ by a wet process and dried for 12 hours at $100^{\circ}C$. The pigment was finally made by a fine grinding process. To determine the best temperature for calcination, 4 temperature sections ($1000^{\circ}C$, $1100^{\circ}C$, $1150^{\circ}C$, and $1200^{\circ}C$) were set up. The X-ray diffraction peak of the rutile crystalline structure was highest at $1,150^{\circ}C$. The yellow ceramic pigment, which has the rutile structure, was applied for coating materials. The synthesized pigments underwent a discoloration tests on the acid resistance, alkaline resistance, weather resistance and heat resistance. In addition, a detection test on harmful heavy metals ($Cr^{+6}$) was done. The resulting values (${\Delta}E$) of the weather resistance test (2000hr), acid resistance test, alkaline resistance test, and heat resistance test were 0.74, 0.16, 0.07 and 0.29. The resulting value for heavy metals testing was 34ppm.
