단결정 Si 기판의 결정 의존성 식각에 의한 Knife형 Si tip array의 제조 (Fabrication of Knife type Si tip array by orientation dependent etching of single silicon substrate)

  • In this study we fabricate Knife type Si-tip array using (110) Si wafer. We can fabricate vertical structure by anisotropic etching using EPW and observe it by SEM. After the step, we perform isotropic etching and oxidation sharpening of the structure and also observe it by SEM, respectively. The purpose of isotropic etching is to reduce the oxidation time. We attain a optimal tip whose radius is about $100{\AA}$ after anisotropic etching 2.25 min.+isotropic etching 5 min.+oxidation 1 hour and 23 min.

  • To obtain the ultra-sharp tungsten tip, an analog to digital converter circuit aided by a personal computer has been setup. At the moment the lower part of the needle drops off during the etching process, a maximum current change across the reference resistor is detected by the PC interface card and the applied voltage is then cut off within a few milliseconds. Out experiment has been able to fabricate an ultra-sharp tungsten tip ~200 $\AA$ radius with a higher reproduction rate and reliability than the conventional method.

A study of nano-scale electrical discharge characteristics for automotive sensor applications

  • To study the relationship between spark ignition and the gap in the nano-scale region, the electric potential was applied to between a Pt-Ir tip and a gold substrate. The tip was sharpened by electro-chemical etching process in the solution of $CaCl_2;H_2O$ and acetone. The radius of tip was measured to be around 200nm and attached to the scanning probe microscope to control the gap between the tip and the substrate. The electric potential of 10V to 80V was applied to initialize the spark. The gaps and the current profile were measured to analyze the characteristics of spark ignition. A spark sustaining time was measured to be between 50ns and 200ns depending on the applied electric potential and the gap between the electrodes. The continuous electric discharge was successfully sustained up to 1 second of spark or arc time. The developed process can be applicable to the micro-scale fabrication of automotive sensors as a similar concept of GTAW.

통계적 기법을 이용한 선삭가공 절삭조건에 따른 공구온도 예측 (A Study on the Tool Temperature Estimation for Different Cutting Conditions in Turning Using a Statistical Method)

  • This study is on the estimation method of toot temperature for different tool nose radius and cutting conditions in turning. Experimental analysis has been performed in different cutting conditions such as cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut for the tool nose radius, 0.4R, 0.8R using SMC workpiece materials. Tool temperature is measured using a thermo-couple which is embedded in the insert tip. Using multiple linear regression method, the tool temperature can be determined as an exponential equation with cutting variables and tool nose diameters for the different tool materials. The equations determined in this study show a good correlation for the cutting conditions and can be used for a tool temperature estimation technique. The result indicates that the tool temperature decreases for increasing the tool nose radius in general. Also, nose radius hardly influences on the tool temperature compared with cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut. This method will be useful for the estimation of tool life and temperature using limited experimental data for given cutting conditions.

Equo-Tip 경도값에 미치는 실험변수의 영향 (The Effect of Test Variables on the Accuracy of Equo-Tip Hardness)

  • For the accurate measurements of hardness in a material, it is necessary to have a thorough understanding of the effects of test variables on the accuracy of hardness value. For the rebound hardness test, major test variables are the radius of hammer ball tip, type of backing materials, size and roughness of the specimen. In this study, effects of these variables on Equo-Tip hardness value were investigated. Hardness measurements were carried out using WC balls with various sizes of worn-ot zone. The sample materials chosen for the experiments were commercial standard hardness blocks and SM45C steel bars subjected to either normalization or quench and temper treatments. As backing materials, aluminum, steel and rubber plates were used in all the experiments. Experimental results show that for the accurate measurements of Equo-tip hardness, it is necessary to use the hammer ball with a worn-out zone parameter of less than 0.23, and the recommended minimum thickness and width of the specimen are 25mm and 70mm, respectively. Further for the surface preparation, the specimens need to be polished with an emery paper of No. 400 or finer, and for the backing matrials, it is recommended to use steels or rubbers.

단축적방법을 이용한 다단 축류압축기의 설계 (A Design Procedure for a Multi-Stage Axial Compressor Using the Stage-Stacking Method)

  • A preliminary design procedure for a multi-stage axial compressor is developed, which is based on the stage-stacking method. It determines the flow coefficient which gives rise to the design conditions required such as pressure ratio, mass flow rate and rotational speed for a given specific mass flow rate at inlet to a compressor. With this flow coefficient, blade radii, every stage and compressor performance characterics such as stage pressure ratio, adiabatic efficiency etc. are calculated by stacking each stage performance characteristics. It is shown that there is an optimum number of stage which results in the maximum of compressor overall efficiency for a given specific mass flow rate at inlet to a compressor. A test design was tried for three different geometric design constraints, and comparison with a previous study shows that present procedure could be used reliably in determining the number of compressor stage in preliminary design stage.

p-n 접합에 있어서의 비등방성 응력효과 (Anisotropic stress Effects in p-n junction)

  • The effects of anisotropic mechanical stress applied normal to the surface of p-n junctions have been investigated. As the stress increased, the breakdown voltage was decreased and the breakdown mode became softer. Within a certain limitation in the applied stress, the above phenomena werw reversibbe, though relaxation and hysteresis phenomena were observed. The time constant of relaxation depended upon the shape of the stressing tip, but for the given tip and device a unique time constant was obtained. The stress.dependence of breakdown voltage showed a good linearity up to about 3.0${\times}10^4$ kgw/$\textrm{cm}^2$, when the flat tip of radius 15$\mu$ was used, and the temperatere-dependence of breakdown voltage under the stress also showed a good linearity in the temperature range of 100 to $300^{\circ}K$.

  • The nanoimprint lithography technology makes higher density of semiconductor device and larger capacity of storage media. In this technology the induced damage while detaching polymer pattern from mold should be minimized. In order to analyze the problem, the basic knowledge of adhesion between the polymer and the mold is required. In this study a contact experiment of polyisobutylene specimen with spherical steel tip and polyisobutylene bead tip was conducted using nano indenter. During the contact experiment with various loading rate under load control the contact behavior of viscoelastic material was measured, i.e., the load and displacement between the tip and the specimen were measured. The data was analyzed by HBK model to obtain the stress intensity factor of contact edge and the contact radius as a function of time. Also the adhesion energies between steel/polyisobutylene and polyisobutylene/polyisobutylene were obtained employing the analysis of the crack of viscoelastic material by Schapery.

Pivalic Acid-Ethanol 및 Succinonitrile-Salol 계에서의 수지상정 선단의 형상 (Dendrite Tip Shapes of Pivalic Acid-Ethanol and Succinonitrile-Salol Systems)

  • The shape of a dendrite tip has long been approximated by a paraboloid of revolution, but many attempts have been made as well to more accurately match the dendrite tip profile using other mathematical functions: power function, 4th order polynomial, and hyperbolic function. In the present work, dendrite tip shapes were matched by parabolic function. The differences between the dendrite tip shapes of pivalic acid(PVA)-ethanol(Eth) and succinonitrile(SCN)-salol systems, characterized by anisotropic and isotropic solid-liquid interfacial properties, respectively, were quantitatively treated using shape parameters. The PVA-Eth system showed a slightly higher Z/R value than the SCN-salol system, their Z/R values lying in the range 2-4. (Z is the distance from the tip beyond which the parabolic fit starts to deviate from the profile, and R the tip radius.) ${\lambda}_P$ is the distance from the tip beyond which side branching starts to appear, and is larger in the PVA-Eth system than the SCNsalol system. ${\lambda}_P$ is different for both sides of the 2-dimensional dendrite profile. The difference of ${\lambda}_P$ between both sides of the dendrite is larger for PVA-Eth system than for SCN-salol, implying that the dendrite of PVA-Eth is less symmetric than that of SCN-salol.

오목한 광섬유 팁의 방사특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Radiation Characteristics of Concave Optical Fiber Tips)

  • 본 논문에서는 광통신용 공진기에 필요한 광섬유의 오목한 면 제작에 관한 연구를 진행하였다. 불산(Hydrofluoric acid) 용액과 이 용액에 잘 흡수될 수 있는 파장인 $1.55{\mu}m$의 레이저를 인가하여 광열효과를 유도하였고, 식각 용액에서의 광열효과를 통해 광섬유 끝단의 곡률 반경을 자유롭게 변경할 수 있는 점을 현미경 사진 촬영으로 확인하였다. 빔 프로파일러를 이용하여 제작한 결과물의 끝단에서 방사되는 빔의 크기 변화를 관측하여 유효성을 검증하였고 본 논문의 저자들은 제시한 방식이 광통신용 공진기에 적용 가능성이 있을 것으로 보고 있다.
