  • In this study, we propose a protocol for the communication between process groups required during message transfers. This is accomplished by an efficient process management of distributed systems connected by computer networks. For a single process group, a multicast protocol was proposed, which can control message flows while maintaining the order of messages sent or delivered. Through use of membership-related services, a member composing a process group may leave and join the current a membership anytime during execution. Moreover, message delivery can be delayed by using a logical vector time stamp. The functionality of the message delivery includes a virtual synchronization in response to a change in membership.

  • Several universities in Korea are beginning studies related to soft stamping processes but since the studies are done with manual works thus systematic tests can't be performed due to difficulties in producing reproducible and repeatable fine patterns. Therefore, the phenomenon of destruction of the pattern forms of elastic polymers occurred during working because of inconsistent printing pressures and pinting time and there have been difficulties in maintaining flatness or producing uniform and fault-free fine structures in pinting large areas and also, there have been difficulties in multi-layered processes as patterns were changed by contacts in registering and errors in alignments. The purpose of development of this technology is to improve the process of soft lithography so that contacts between PDMS stamps and metal coated substrates in order to develop a stamp printing device that can not only shorten but also optimize processes, secure reproducibility and repeatability and is advantageous in printing large areas. Also, using this technology, this author is to develop equipment technologies and applied technologies for nano grade pattern printing processes with new concepts based on fine contact printing processes in order to apply them to diverse nano pattering processes.

  • Efficiency of crystalline Si solar cell can be maximized as minimizing optical loss through antireflection texturing with inverted pyramids. Even if cost-competitive, soft lithography can be employed instead of photolithography for the purpose, some limitations still remain to apply the soft lithography directly to as-received solar grade wafer with a bunch of micro trenches on surface. Therefore, it is needed to develop a low-cost, effective planarization process and evaluate its output to be applicable to patterning process with PDMS stamp. In this study new surface planarization process is proposed and the change of micro scale trenches on the surface as a function of etching time is observed. Also, the effect of trenches on pattern quality by soft lithography is investigated using FEM structural analysis. In conclusion it is clear that the geometry and shape of trenches would be basic considerations for soft lithography application to low quality wafer.

  • Despite the importance of the receptor activator of nuclear factor (NF)-kappaB ligand (RANKL)-RANK signaling mechanisms on osteoclast differentiation, little has been studied on how RANK expression is regulated or what regulates its expression during osteoclastogenesis. We show here that insulin signaling increases RANK expression, thus enhancing osteoclast differentiation by RANKL. Insulin stimulation induced RANK gene expression in time- and dose-dependent manners and insulin receptor shRNA completely abolished RANK expression induced by insulin in bone marrow-derived monocyte/macrophage cells (BMMs). Moreover, the addition of insulin in the presence of RANKL promoted RANK expression. The ability of insulin to regulate RANK expression depends on extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) since only PD98059, an ERK1/2 inhibitor, specifically inhibited its expression by insulin. However, the RANK expression by RANKL was blocked by all three mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinases inhibitors. The activation of RANK increased differentiation of BMMs into tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-positive ($TRAP^+$) osteoclasts as well as the expression of dendritic cell-specific transmembrane protein (DC-STAMP) and d2 isoform of vacuolar ($H^+$) ATPase (v-ATPase) Vo domain (Atp6v0d2), genes critical for osteoclastic cell-cell fusion. Collectively, these results suggest that insulin induces RANK expression via ERK1/2, which contributes to the enhancement of osteoclast differentiation.

  • On the strength of the rapid development and propagation of U-healthcare service, the service technologies are full of important changes. However, U-healthcare service has security problem that patient's biometric information can be easily exposed to the third party without service users' consent. This paper proposes a distributed model according authority and access level of hospital officials in order to safely access patients' private information in u-Healthcare Environment. Proposed model can both limit the access to patients' biometric information and keep safe system from DoS attack using time stamp. Also, it can prevent patients' data spill and privacy intrusion because the main server simultaneously controls hospital officials and the access by the access range of officials from each hospital.

  • As electric vehicles (EV) have increasingly replaced the conventional vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICE), most of automotive makers are actively devoting to the technology development of EV parts. Accordingly, the manufacturing process for power source has been also shifting from engine/transmission to EV motor/reducer system. However, lack of experience in developing the EV motor still remains as a technical challenge. In this paper, we employed the forming simulation based on finite element modeling to solve this problem. In particular, in order to increase the accuracy of the forming simulation, we introduced the elastic-plastic constitutive model parameters for polymer-copper hybrid wire by investigating the individual strain-stress curves, and elastic modulus of polymer and copper. Then, the reliability of modeling procedure was confirmed by comparing the simulated results with experiments. Finally, the identified mechanical properties and finite element modeling were applied to a hairpin forming process, which involves multiple deformation paths such as bending, pressing, widening, and twisting. The proposed numerical approach can replace common experience or experiment based trials by reducing production time and cost in the future.

  • Background: The structure and function of bone tissue is maintained through a constant remodeling process, which is maintained by the balance between osteoblasts and osteoclasts. The failure of bone remodeling can lead to pathological conditions of bone structure and function. Remifentanil is currently used as a narcotic analgesic agent in general anesthesia and sedation. However, the effect of remifentanil on osteoclasts has not been studied. Therefore, we investigated the effect of remifentanil on pre-osteoclast (pre-OCs) differentiation and the mechanism of osteoclast differentiation in the absence of specific stimulus. Methods: Pre-OCs were obtained by culturing bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMMs) in osteoclastogenic medium for 2 days and then treated with various concentration of remifentanil. The mRNA expression of NFATc1 and c-fos was examined by using real-time PCR. We also examined the effect of remifentanil on the osteoclast-specific genes TRAP, cathepsin K, calcitonin receptor, and DC-STAMP. Finally, we examined the influence of remifentanil on the migration of pre-OCs by using the Boyden chamber assay. Results: Remifentanil increased pre-OC differentiation and osteoclast size, but did not affect the mRNA expression of NFATc1 and c-fos or significantly affect the expression of TRAP, cathepsin K, calcitonin receptor, and DC-STAMP. However, remifentanil increased the migration of pre-OCs. Conclusions: This study suggested that remifentanil promotes the differentiation of pre-OCs and induces maturation, such as increasing osteoclast size. In addition, the increase in osteoclast size was mediated by the enhancement of pre-OC migration and cell fusion.

  • Microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPADs) have recently been in the spotlight for their applicability in point-of-care diagnostics and environmental material detection. This study presents a double-sided printing method for fabricating 3D-μPADs, providing simple and cost effective metal ion detection. The design of the 3D-μPAD was made into an acryl stamp by laser cutting and then coating it with a thin layer of PDMS using the spin-coating method. This fabricated stamp was used to form the 3D structure of the hydrophobic barrier through a double-sided contact printing method. The fabrication of the 3D hydrophobic barrier within a single sheet was optimized by controlling the spin-coating rate, reagent ratio and contacting time. The optimal conditions were found by analyzing the area change of the PDMS hydrophobic barrier and hydrophilic channel using ink with chromatography paper. Using the fabricated 3D-μPAD under optimized conditions, Ni2+, Cu2+, Hg2+, and pH were detected at different concentrations and displayed with color intensity in grayscale for quantitative analysis using ImageJ. This study demonstrated that a 3D-μPAD biosensor can be applied to detect metal ions without special analysis equipment. This 3D-μPAD provides a highly portable and rapid on-site monitoring platform for detecting multiple heavy metal ions with extremely high repeatability, which is useful for resource-limited areas and developing countries.
