  • N-screen is a promising technology to improve support for multimedia multicasting, content sharing, content mobility, media scalability, and seamless mobility. In this paper, the WiMedia distributed-MAC (D-MAC) protocol is adopted for development of a seamless N-screen wireless service. Furthermore, to provide a multi-hop, one source multi-use N-screen service through point to point streaming in a seamless D-MAC protocol, a dynamic multi-frame transmission technology is proposed. In this technology, a dynamic time slot allocation scheme and a multi-hop resource reservation scheme are combined. In the proposed dynamic time slot allocation scheme, two thresholds, a hard threshold and a soft threshold, are included to satisfy the power consumption and delay requirements. A multi-frame DRP reservation scheme is proposed to minimize end-to-end delay during the multi-hop transmissions between N-screen devices. The proposed dynamic multi-frame transmission scheme enhances N-screen performance in terms of the multi-hop link establishment success rate and link establishment time compared to the conventional WiMedia D-MAC system.

  • The traffic scheduling problem for a satellite cluster with an arbitrary number of satellites is considered. which is one of the most interesting problems in the satellite communication scheduling area. This problem is to find a time slot assignment maximizing the transponder utilization for a satellite cluster This problem is known to be NP-complete, and several heuristic algorithms have been proposed. In this paper, we suggest new efficient algorithms for this problem, which have less time complexity than the best existing one and provide much better solution quality. Extensive simulation results are reported.

  • This paper proposes an architecture of a sensor network for gathering data under a powerful beam cluster tree architecture. This architecture is used when there is a need to gather data from sensor node where there is no sink node connected to an existing network, or it is required to get a series of data specific to an event or time. The transmit distance of the beam signal is longer than that of the usual sensor node. The nodes of the network make a tree network when receiving a beam message transmitting from the powerful root node. All sensor nodes in a sink tree network synchronize to the superframe and know exactly the sequence value of the current superframe. When there is data to send to the sink node, the sensor node sends data at the corresponding allocated channel. Data sending schemes under the guaranteed time slot are tested and the delay and jitter performance is explained.

  • A pulsed tracer gas technique is applied to measure the distributions of local mean age and local mean residual-life-time of air in a half-scale experimental chamber, The airflow patterns in the chamber are visualized by a Helium bubble generator for three different exhaust locations. A supply slot is located at the top of a right wall, and an exhaust slot is at either bottom-left (Case 1), bottom-right (Case 2), or top-left (Case 3) location. Results show that the distributions of local mean age and local mean residual-life-time are different from each other, but both of them are closely related to the airflow pattern in the space. Included are discussions on explaining the variations of overall room ventilation effectiveness depending upon airflow rates for three different supply-exhaust configurations.

  • This paper implements a weather monitoring system based on wireless sensor network. The wireless sensor network protocol proposed in this paper adopts a TDMA styled MAC. The protocol is designed to balance the energy consumption among sensor nodes. Other purposes of the protocol are to avoid the hidden terminal problem in 2-hop star topology, and to allow a CSMA styled communication in a given time slot to support emergent messages. Also, this paper develops the hardware of sensor node, gateway and electric generator based on solar and windy energy. The test results on the implemented system show that the time slot of each node is shifted in circular manner to balance the waiting time for transmission, and the reliability of wireless communication is over 99%.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new dynamic channel allocation algorithm for TD-SCDMA with cross time slots. In order to reduce the interference in cross time slot, the mobile stations (MSs) are divided into two groups: the Near Group consisting of MSs near by the base station(BS) and the Far Group including the MSs far from the BS. The reverse link for MSs in the Near Group and forward link for MSs in the Far Group are allocated to the cross time slot. In cellular systems, a BS has multiple neighbor BSs. Some of neighbor BSs can operate in the same direction link while the others have cross time slot. Thus, it is required to determine which BS has the most significant impact in terms of interference. We divide each cell into 6 areas based on the direction of arrival of smart antenna and the most significant neighbor sector is determined with this division. The proposed allocation method and area division method can avoid the severe interference in cross time slots and increase the system capacity about 2%~9% compared to FCA, and 0.5%~1.3% compared to RCA.

  • This paper presents a tapered slot-antenna(TSA) for optimal impulse-signal transmission in ultra-wide band(UWB). The proposed TSA provides radiates in end-fire direction, which meets an impulse-radio UWB(IR-UWB) system demands(e.g., low loss, thus less error throughout the UWB band). In order to minimize the pulse distortion, we used an wideband impedance transformer and a microstrip slotline. The pulse fidelity characteristics was evaluated with finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) analysis technique and pulse fidelity correlation equation. Approximately 93.89 % pulse fidelity was obtained between the two antennas in 0.5 m range. Additionally, derived chirp Z-transform algorithm enables us to utilize the zoom-in option on the pulse signal in few nano-seconds below. Thus, it is possible to analyze the pulse signal distortion, delay or dispersion characteristics.

  • In this paper, we propose an ordering chatbot that can process multiple keywords based on recursive slot-filling method. In general, in case of an order service using chatbots, the whole order process is performed only according to the sequence defined by the developer. That is, among all the information needed for the whole order process, only one input can be processed at one time. In order to reduce processing step for the order, we propose a recursive slot-filling method which fills out multiple slots per one time by extracting multiple keywords. First, a keyword array for the order is created according to the order related information. Next, from the input sentence of a user, multiple keywords is extracted. Corresponding slots for a keyword array will be filled with the extracted keywords. Finally, recursive routine will be executed to fill out all the blank in the keyword array. The usability and validity of the proposed method will be shown from the implementation of a smartphone application.

  • The procedure of the arbitration which is the tag collision is essential because the multiple tags response simultaneously in the same frequency to the request of the Reader. This procedure is known as Anti-collision and it is a key technology in the RFID system. In this paper, we propose the 4-Bit Pattern Slot Allocation(4-BPSA) algorithm for the high-speed identification of the multiple tags. The proposed algorithm is based on the tree algorithm using the time slot and identify the tag quickly and efficiently through accurate prediction using the a slot as a 4-bit pattern according to the slot allocation scheme. Through mathematical performance analysis, We proved that the 4-BPSA is an O(n) algorithm by analyzing the worst-case time complexity and the performance of the 4-BPSA is improved compared to existing algorithms. In addition, we verified that the 4-BPSA is performed the average 0.7 times the query per the Tag through MATLAB simulation experiments with performance evaluation of the algorithm and the 4-BPSA ensure stable performance regardless of the number of the tags.
