MPEG-7 standardization work has started with the aims of providing fundamental tools for describing multimedia contents. MPEG-7 defines the syntax and semantics of descriptors and description schemes so that they may be used as fundamental tools for multimedia content description. In this paper, we introduce a texture based image description and retrieval method, which is adopted as the homogeneous texture descriptor in the visual part of the MPEG-7 final committee draft. The current MPEG-7 homogeneous texture descriptor consists of the mean, the standard deviation value of an image, energy, and energy deviation values of Fourier transform of the image. These are extracted from partitioned frequency channels based on the human visual system (HVS). For reliable extraction of the texture descriptor, Radon transformation is employed. This is suitable for HVS behavior. We also introduce various matching methods; for example, intensity-invariant, rotation-invariant and/or scale-invariant matching. This technique retrieves relevant texture images when the user gives a querying texture image. In order to show the promising performance of the texture descriptor, we take the experimental results with the MPEG-7 test sets. Experimental results show that the MPEG-7 texture descriptor gives an efficient and effective retrieval rate. Furthermore, it gives fast feature extraction time for constructing the texture descriptor.
The purpose of this study is to develop a practical image inspection system that could recognize it correctly, endowing flexibility to the productive field, although the same object for work will be changed in the size and rotated. In this experiment, it selected a fighter, rotating the direction from $30^{\circ}\;to\;45^{\circ}$ simultaneously while changing the size from 1/4 to 1/16, as an object inspection without using another hardware for exclusive image processing. The invariant moments, Hu has suggested, was used as feature vector moment descriptor. As a result of the experiment the image inspection system developed from this research was operated in real-time regardless of the chance of size and rotation for the object inspection, and it maintained the correspondent rates steadily above from 94% to 96%. Accordingly, it is considered as the flexibility can be considerably endowed to the factory automation when the image inspection system developed from this research is applied to the productive field.
Let M be a semi-invariant submanifold of codimension 3 with almost contact metric structure (𝜙, 𝜉, 𝜂, g) in a complex space form Mn+1(c). We denote by A, K and L the second fundamental forms with respect to the unit normal vector C, D and E respectively, where C is the distinguished normal vector, and by R𝜉 = R(𝜉, ·)𝜉 the structure Jacobi operator. Suppose that the third fundamental form t satisfies dt(X, Y) = 2𝜃g(𝜙X, Y) for a scalar 𝜃(≠ 2c) and any vector fields X and Y , and at the same time R𝜉K = KR𝜉 and ∇𝜙∇𝜉𝜉R𝜉 = 0. In this paper, we prove that if it satisfies ∇𝜉R𝜉 = 0 on M, then M is a real hypersurface of type (A) in Mn(c) provided that the scalar curvature $\bar{r}$ of M holds $\bar{r}-2(n-1)c{\leq}0$.
Purpose - The existing marketing studies using Social Network Analysis have assumed that network structure variables are time-invariant. However, a node's network position can fluctuate considerably over time and the node's network structure can be changed dynamically. Hence, if such a dynamic structural network characteristics are not specified for virtual goods purchase model, estimated parameters can be biased. In this paper, by comparing a time-invariant network structure specification model(base model) and time-varying network specification model(proposed model), the authors intend to prove whether the proposed model is superior to the base model. In addition, the authors also intend to investigate whether coefficients of network structure variables are random over time. Research design, data, and methodology - The data of this study are obtained from a Korean social network provider. The authors construct a monthly panel data by calculating the raw data. To fit the panel data, the authors derive random effects panel tobit model and multi-level mixed effects model. Results - First, the proposed model is better than that of the base model in terms of performance. Second, except for constraint, multi-level mixed effects models with random coefficient of every network structure variable(in-degree, out-degree, in-closeness centrality, out-closeness centrality, clustering coefficient) perform better than not random coefficient specification model. Conclusion - The size and importance of virtual goods market has been dramatically increasing. Notwithstanding such a strategic importance of virtual goods, there is little research on social influential factors which impact the intention of virtual good purchase. Even studies which investigated social influence factors have assumed that social network structure variables are time-invariant. However, the authors show that network structure variables are time-variant and coefficients of network structure variables are random over time. Thus, virtual goods purchase model with dynamic network structure variables performs better than that with static network structure model. Hence, if marketing practitioners intend to use social influences to sell virtual goods in social media, they had better consider time-varying social influences of network members. In addition, this study can be also differentiated from other related researches using survey data in that this study deals with actual field data.
This paper deals with the eigenvalue assignment technique for linear time-varying systems to achieve feedback stabilization. For this, we introduce the novel eigenvalue concepts. Then, we propose the Ackerman-like formula for linear time-varying systems. It is believed that this technique is the generalized version of the Ackerman formula forlinear time-invariant systems. The advantages of the proposed technique are that it does not require the transformation of the original system into the phase-variable form nor the computation of eigenvalues of the original system.
This paper presents a discrete-time sliding mode control method for linear time-invariant systems with matched uncertainties. In this paper, we suggest a method of adding a command generator using input shaping filter to a discrete-time sliding mode controller. We design the number of steps required to reach the sliding layer and the magnitude of a control input, respectively using the shaping filter. Therefore we can minimize the excitation of the resonance mode and increase the tracking performance of a system. Simulation results are included to show its effectiveness.
Linear cyclic systems (LCS's) are a class of systems whose dynamic behavior changes periodically. Such a cyclic behavior is ubiquitous in systems with fundamentally repetitive motion. Yet, the knowledge of the noise and vibration transmission paths in LCS's is quite limited due to the time-varying nature of their dynamics. The first part of this two-part paper derives a generic expression that describes how the noise and/or vibration are transmitted between two (or multiple) points in the LCS's. In Part II, experimental validation of the theoretical development of Part I is provided. The noise and vibration transmission paths of the scroll and rotary compressors (two typical LCS's) are examined to show that the LCS's indeed generate a series of amplitude modulated input signals at the output, where the carrier frequencies are harmonic multiples of the LCS' fundamental frequency. The criterion proposed in Part I to determine how well a given LCS can be approximated as a linear time-invariant systems (LTIS) is applied to the noise and vibration transmission paths of the two compressors. Furthermore, the implications of the experimental validations/applications are discussed in order to assess the applicability of the noise/vibration source and transmission path identification techniques based on the assumption that the system under consideration is linear and time-invariant.

We demonstrate rotationally invariant space-time (ST) trellis codes with a 4-D rectangular signal constellation for data transmission over fading channels using two transmit antennas. The rotational invariance is a good property to have that may alleviate the task of the carrier phase tracking circuit in the receiver. The transmitted data stream is segmented into eight bit blocks and quadrature amplitude modulated using a 256 point 4-D signal constellation whose 2-D constituent constellation is a 16 point square constellation doubly partitioned. The 4-D signal constellation is simply the Cartesian product of the 2-D signal constellation with it-self and has 32 subsets. The partition is performed on one side into four subsets A, B, C, and D with increased minimum-squared Euclidian distance, and on the other side into four rings, where each ring includes four points of equal energy. We propose both linear and nonlinear ST trellis codes and perform simulations using an appropriate multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel model. The 4-D ST codes constructed here demonstrate about the same frame error rate (FER) performance as their 2-D counterparts, having however the added value of rotational invariance.
In this paper, a new input method is proposed to improve shift-invariant property of a photorefractive correlator andwe implemented real-time optical pattern recognition system using it. In the conventional photorefractive correlator, it is vrey difficult to satisfy the Bragg condition in the pattern recognition process. So, correlation peak is decreased heavily for the shift of input image. If a liquid crystal television(LCTV) without an anlyzer is used as input device, we can get the correlation result regardless of shift of input image because beam path is not changed during storage of holographic filter and correlation process. Also recording time of a holographic matched filter in photorefractive crystal is reduced and the correlation peak is increased because incident beam on the LCTV is transmitted completely. Therefore total optical efficiency is improved. We compared and analyzed the correlation results of proposed photorefractive correlator by computer simulation and optical experiment. We used a BaTiO$_{3}$ single crystal which has high diffraction efficiency in optical experiment.
