원심압축기 회전차 내부의 3차원 유동해석 (Calculation of 3-Dimensional Flow Through an Impeller of Centrifugal Compressor)

  • The flow through a centrifugal compressor rotor was calculated using the quasi-3-dimensional and fully 3-dimensional Navier-Stokes solution methods. The calculated results, obtained during the development of the computer codes for both methods are discussed. In the inviscid quasi 3-dimensional analysis, stream function formulation was used for the blade to blade (B-B) plane calculations, and the streamline curvature method was used for the meridional (H-S) plane calculations. In the viscous 3-dimensional flow analysis, a control volume method based on a general rotating curvilinear coordinate system was used to solve the time-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, and a standard k-.epsilon. model was used to obtain eddy viscosity. The quasi-3-dimensional analysis reasonably predicts the pressure distributions and requires much less computation time in the region where viscous effects are not strong; however, it fails to predict velocity field and loss mechanism through the impeller passage. The viscous 3-dimensional flow analysis shows reasonable pressure distributions and typical jet-wake flow field through the impeller passage. Secondary flow and total pressure distributions on cross-sectional planes explain the loss mechanisms through the impeller.

Effects of upstream two-dimensional hills on design wind loads: A computational approach

  • The paper describes a study about effects of upstream hills on design wind loads using two mathematical approaches: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Artificial Neural Network (NN for short). For this purpose CFD and NN tools have been developed using an object-oriented approach and C++ programming language. The CFD tool consists of solving the Reynolds time-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model using body-fitted nearly-orthogonal coordinate system. Subsequently, design wind load parameters such as speed-up ratio values have been generated for a wide spectrum of two-dimensional hill geometries that includes isolated and multiple steep and shallow hills. Ground roughness effect has also been considered. Such CFD solutions, however, normally require among other things ample computational time, background knowledge and high-capacity hardware. To assist the enduser, an easier, faster and more inexpensive NN model trained with the CFD-generated data is proposed in this paper. Prior to using the CFD data for training purposes, extensive validation work has been carried out by comparing with boundary layer wind tunnel (BLWT) data. The CFD trained NN (CFD-NN) has produced speed-up ratio values for cases such as multiple hills that are not covered by wind design standards such as the Commentaries of the National Building Code of Canada (1995). The CFD-NN results compare well with BLWT data available in literature and the proposed approach requires fewer resources compared to running BLWT experiments.

하구의 염수침입을 해석하기 위한 연직 2차원 수치모형 개발 (Development of a Laterally Averaged 2-Dimensional Model for Saltwater Intrusion in Estuary)

  • 하폭으로 평균된 2차원 동수역학 수치모형을 수입하였다. 수심방향으로 좌표변환하여 자유수면과 하상의 불규칙성에 대한 영향을 최소화하였다. 지배방정식의 이송항은 풍상차분기법을 이용하여 유속과 염분의 이송현상이 잘 표현되도록 하였다. 또한 흐름방향으로는 양해법을, 수심방향으로는 음해법을 사용하여 수심방향 격자증분이 매우 작기 때문에 야기되는 시간증분의 제약에서 벗어나도록 하였다. 모형의 적용성을 검증하기 위해 자유수면변위, 속도 및 염도분포에 관한 계산결과 하구둑 건설이전의 금강하구의 관측치를 비교하였다. 계산결과는 관측자료와 잘 일치한다.

자유표면을 포함한 선체주위 난류유동 해석 (Computation of Turbulent Flow around a Ship Model with Free-Surface)

  • 본 논문에서는 비압축성 Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes 방정식을 수치 해석하여 자유표면을 포함한 선체 주위의 난류 유동을 계산하였다. 정규격자 상에서 공간의 이산화는 2차 정도의 유한차분법을, 시간의 적분에는 4단계 Runge-Kutta법을 이용하였고, 난류 닫힘 조건을 만족시키기 위해 Baldwin-Lomax 난류 모형을 사용하였다. 자유표면의 위치는 운동학적 경계조건식을 Lax-Wendroff법으로 풀어서 구하였고, 자유표면과 격자 경계면을 일치시키기 위해 매 시간마다 새로 계산된 자유표면 위치에 맞추어 격자를 새로 구성하였다. 속도와 압력에 대한 경계조건은 자유표면에서 점성을 무시하여 근사한 동역학적 조건을 적용해서 구하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 수치해법을 검증하기 위하여 실험자료가 많은 Wigley 선형과 Sries 60 $C_B=0.6$ 선형에 대해 수치계산을 수행하였고 계산된 선체 주위의 파형이 실험 결과와 잘 일치하는 것을 확인하였다.

2005년 도시지역의 건성침적량 산정에 관한 연구 (Estimation of Dry Deposition in Urban Area, 2005)

  • Dry deposition fluxes for $SO_2$, particulate sulfate, nitrate, ammonium and $HNO_3$ were estimated in urban area for the time period January$\sim$ October 2005. Fluxes were generated using atmospheric concentration data collected both in Acid Deposition and Air Quality Monitoring Networks, and deposition velocities computed by combining land-use data with meteorological information. The resulting annually averaged $SO_2$, $NO_3$, and aerosol deposition velocities were found to be 0.4 cm/s, 4.3 cm/s and 0.1 cm/s, respectively, and thus deposition rates were 4.4 mg/$m^2$. day for $SO_2$, and 5.4 mg/$m^2$ . day for $NHO_3$, and particulate sulfate, ammonium and nitrate recorded 1.0 mg/$m^2$ . day, 0.4 mg/$m^2$ . day and 0.4 mg/$m^2$ day, respectively. Maximum for in seasonal variation of monthly averaged deposition velocities occurred in summer in contrast to $HNO_3$ showing peak in spring. There was no significant variation for aerosol. The dry to total (wet and dry) deposition contributed about 40% for sulfur and 28% for nitrogen species in this study.

OpenFOAM을 활용한 포말대 이중 댐-붕괴 수치모형실험 (Numerical investigation of swash-swash interaction driven by double dam-break using OpenFOAM)

  • 본 연구는 포말대 흐름의 난류특성에 대한 이해를 목표로 한다. 포말대 흐름을 재현하기 위해 이중 댐-붕괴 파랑생성법이 제시되었다. 기존 단일 댐-붕괴 실험과 비교하여 이중 댐-붕괴 실험은 두 개의 수문의 개방 시간을 조절하여 처오름과 처내림의 다양한 상호작용을 구현할 수 있다. 수치모형으로는 OpenFOAM의 overInterDyMFoam이 활용되었다. overInterDyMFoam은 밀도가 다른 두 유체(i.e., 공기, 물)의 경계면 추적기법과 동격자 및 중첩 격자 기법을 결합한 모형이다. 질량보존 및 운동량 방정식으로는 𝜅-𝜖 난류모형이 결합된 이차원 Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes 모형이 채택되었다. 수치모형실험 결과는 수리모형실험의 수심 및 흐름 방향 유속 시계열과 비교하여 정확도가 검증되었다. 난류 운동 에너지 분포특성을 확인하여 각 흐름 단계(i.e., 처오름, 처내림, 흐름의 상호작용)의 난류 진화 특성을 고찰하였다.

Control of the flow past a sphere in a turbulent boundary layer using O-ring

  • This research work presents an experimental study's outcomes to reveal the impact of an O-ring on the flow control over a sphere placed in a turbulent boundary layer. The investigation is performed quantitatively and qualitatively using particle image velocimetry (PIV) and dye visualization. The sphere model having a diamater of 42.5 mm is located in a turbulent boundary layer flow over a smooth plate for gap ratios of 0≤G/D≤1.5 at Reynolds number of 5 × 103. Flow characteristics, including patterns of instantaneous vorticity, streaklines, time-averaged streamlines, velocity vectors, velocity fluctuations, Reynolds stress correlations, and turbulence kinetic energy (), are compared and discussed for a naked sphere and spheres having O-rings. The boundary layer velocity gradient and proximity of the sphere to the flat plate profoundly influence the flow dynamics. At proximity ratios of G/D=0.1 and 0.25, a wall jet is formed between lower side of the sphere and flat plate, and velocity fluctuations increase in regions close to the wall. At G/D=0.25, the jet flow also induces local flow separations on the flat plate. At higher proximity ratios, the velocity gradient of the boundary layer causes asymmetries in the mean flow characteristics and turbulence values in the wake region. It is observed that the O-ring with various placement angles (𝜃) on the sphere has a considerable alteration in the flow structure and turbulence statistics on the wake. At lower placement angles, where the O-ring is closer to the forward stagnation point of the sphere, the flow control performance of the O-ring is limited; however, its impact on the flow separation becomes pronounced as it is moved away from the forward stagnation point. At G/D=1.50 for O-ring diameters of 4.7 (2 mm) and 7 (3 mm) percent of the sphere diameter, the -ring exhibits remarkable flow control at 𝜃=50° and 𝜃=55° before laminar flow separation occurrence on the sphere surface, respectively. This conclusion is yielded from narrowed wakes and reductions in turbulence statistics compared to the naked sphere model. The O-ring with a diameter of 3 mm and placement angle of 50° exhibits the most effective flow control. It decreases, in sequence, streamwise velocity fluctuations and length of wake recovery region by 45% and 40%, respectively, which can be evaluated as source of decrement in drag force.

  • Delayed Detached-Eddy Simulation was conducted to investigate surface pressure coefficient distribution and surface pressure fluctuation over an ONERA 70-degree delta wing at a high angle of attack. Time-averaged surface pressure distribution is directly affected by the primary vortices, whereas the pressure fluctuation is influenced by the unsteady fluctuating boundary layer over the surface. And pressure coefficient, velocity, pressure fluctuation, and turbulent kinetic energy were analyzed along the vortex core in order to investigate the process of vortex breakdown. Consequently, strong pressure fluctuations were found where the vortex breakdown was occurred at x~620 mm. The turbulent kinetic energy abruptly increased and followed after the vortex breakdown.

  • 본 연구에서는 참고문헌(12)에서 배제된 머플러와 플래퍼밸브의 운동을 추가 시킴으로써 앞의 모델보다 실제장치에 근접시켜 보다 정확한 열적 및 동적거동을 예측 하고, 또한 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션의 수행시 계산시간을 줄여 정상운전상태의 결과를 얻고 자 한다.

  • 본 연구에서는 원형 파이프에 원추형 디퓨져가 연결된 덕트 내의 유동장에 대 하여 Launder-Sharma의 저 레이놀즈수 k-.epsilon. 난류모델을 이용하여 수치해석을 수행하였 으며, 수치해석 방법으로는 타원형 방법을 사용하였으며, 앞으로 일반적인 단면의 곡 관이나 스크롤 내부 유동 등의 연구 수행을 감안하여 지배방정식을 일반 비직교 좌표 계로 변환하여 계산을 수행하였다.
