  • The structural vibrations of a flat plate induced by fluctuating wall pressures within wall-bounded transonic jet flow downstream of a high-aspect ratio rectangular nozzle are simulated. The wall pressures are calculated using Hybrid RANS/LES CFD, where LES models the large-scale turbulence in the shear layers downstream of the nozzle. The structural vibrations are computed using modes from a finite element model and a time-domain forced response calculation methodology. At low flow speeds, the convecting turbulence in the shear layers loads the plate in a manner similar to that of turbulent boundary layer flow. However, at high nozzle pressure ratio discharge conditions the flow over the panel becomes transonic, and the shear layer turbulence scatters from shock cells just downstream of the nozzle, generating backward traveling low frequency surface pressure loads that also drive the plate. The structural mode shapes and subsonic and transonic surface pressure fields are transformed to wavenumber space to better understand the nature of the loading distributions and individual modal responses. Modes with wavenumber distributions which align well with those of the pressure field respond strongly. Negative wavenumber loading components are clearly visible in the transforms of the supersonic flow wall pressures near the nozzle, indicating backward propagating pressure fields. In those cases the modal joint acceptances include significant contributions from negative wavenumber terms.

  • In this study, vortex induced vibrations of a cylinder mounted on a flexible rod are analyzed. This simple configuration represents the key element of new conception bladeless wind turbine (Whitlock 2015). In this study the structure oscillations equation coupled to the wake oscillation equation for this configuration are solved using analytical perturbation method, for the first time. An analytical expression that predicts the lock-in phenomena range of wind speed is derived. The discretized equations of motion are also solved using RKF45 numerical method. The equations of motion are discretized by Galerkin method. Free vibration mode shape of the structure taking into account the discontinuity of the cross section are used as comparison function. Numerical results are compared to the analytical results, and they show a satisfying agreement. The effect of system parameters on the oscillations of structure and wake as well as on the lock-in domain are presented. Moreover, it is shown that the values of wind speed triggering the start and the stop of the lock-in phenomenon, for increasing wind speed are different from those values obtained during the reverse process, i.e., when the wind speed decreases.

  • In relation to a non-destructive evaluation of irradiation damages, the changes in the hysteresis loop and Barkhausen noise amplitude and the harmonics frequency due to a neutron irradiation were measured and evaluated. The Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steel of RPV was irradiated to a neutron fluence of 2.3 ×10/sup 19/ n/㎠ (E ≥1 MeV) at 288℃. The saturation magnetization of neutron irradiated metal did not change. The neutron irradiation caused the coercivity to increase, whereas susceptibility to decrease. The amplitude of Barkhausen noise parameters associated with the domain wall motion were decreased by a neutron irradiation. The spectrum of Barkhausen noise is analysed with an applied frequency of 4 Hz and 8 Hz, sampling time of 50 μ sec and 20 μ sec. The harmonic frequency shows 4 Hz, 8 Hz, 12 Hz and 16 Hz reflected from an unirradiated specimen. On the contrary, the harmonic frequency disappeared on the irradiated specimen. In addition to the amplitude, the harmonic frequency of Barkhausen noise is taken into accounts as a promising tool for monitoring the irradiation induced degradation of the reactor materials such as a SA508 of PWR-RPV steel and a Zr₄ of HANARO-CNH.

  • In structural optimization, static loads are generally utilized although real external forces are dynamic. Dynamic loads have been considered in only small-scale problems. Recently, an algorithm for dynamic response optimization using transformation of dynamic loads into equivalent static loads has been proposed. The transformation is conducted to match the displacement fields from dynamic and static analyses. The algorithm can be applied to large-scale problems. However, the application has been limited to size optimization. The present study applies the algorithm to shape optimization. Because the number of degrees of freedom of finite element models is usually very large in shape optimization, it is difficult to conduct dynamic response optimization with the conventional methods that directly threat dynamic response in the time domain. The optimization process is carried out via interfacing an optimization system and an analysis system for structural dynamics. Various examples are solved to verify the algorithm. The results are compared to the results from static loads. It is found that the algorithm using static loads transformed from dynamic loads based on displacement is valid even for very large-scale problems such as shape optimization.

  • In the modern age, as man's demand of energy is continuously grew, tidal becomes one of the sustainable energy sources that have been investigating thoroughly recently. Tidal turbine has proved high potential as a future power-generating device. To effectively capture tidal energy on site, a group of tidal turbines should be used and positioned in some formation with proper size and space so that energy can be absorbed from multiple point. Thus, the turbines together with the flow filed becomes a huge domain, a tidal farm. So, it becomes more convenient if a whole turbine farm is simulated by means of actuator discs since the time and cost for analysis can be reduced. This paper aims to evaluate the operating performance (power efficiency and energy restoration rate), mutual influence (for different longitudinal and lateral spaces), the influence of velocity profiles, turbulence intensity and the far wake characteristic of tidal turbines operating in farm formation. The results of this study help contributing to the present development of tidal turbine as the future potential energy conversion machinery.

  • In a closed square cavity filled with a liquid, a cooled the upper horizontal wall and a heated the lower horizontal wall, the flow isn't generated under the ground-based condition when Rayleigh number is lower than 1700. In such case the flow phenomena near an air bubble under a cooled horizontal wall were investigated. The temperature and the flow fields were studied by using the Thermo-sensitive Liquid-Crystal and the image processing. The qualitative analysis for the temperature and the flow fields were carried out by applying the image processing technique to the original data. Injecting bubble at the center point of upper cooled wall, the symmetry shape of two vortexes near an air bubble was observed. The bubble size increased, the size of velocity and the magnitude of velocity increased. In spite of elapsed time, a pair of two vortexes was the unique and steady-state flow in a square cavity and wasn't induce to the other flow in the surround region.

  • A digital direct phase-shift control (DDPSC) method based on the phase-shifted full-bridge LLC (PSFB-LLC) converter is presented. This work combines DDPSC with the conventional linear control to obtain a hybrid control strategy that has the advantages of linear control and DDPSC control. The strategy is easy to realize and has good dynamic responses. The PSFB-LLC circuit structure is simple and works in the fixed frequency mode, which is beneficial to magnetic component design; it can realize the ZVS of the switch and the ZCS of the rectifier diode in a wide load range. In this work, the PSFB-LLC converter resonator is analyzed in detail, and the concrete realization scheme of the hybrid control strategy is provided by analyzing the state-plane trajectory and the time-domain model. Finally, a 3 kW prototype is developed, and the feasibility and effectiveness of the DDPSC controller and the hybrid strategy are verified by experimental results.

  • Monitoring and diagnosis of the operating machines are very important for safety operation and maintenance in the industrial fields. These machines are most rotating machines and the diagnosis of the machines has been researched for long time. We can easily see the faulted signal of the rotating machines from the changes of the signals in frequency. The Linear Predictive Coding(LPC) is introduced for signal analysis in frequency domain. In this paper, we propose fault detection and diagnosis method using the Linear Predictive Coding(LPC) and residual signal energy. We applied our method to the induction motors depending on various status of faulted condition and could obtain good results.

  • In this paper, main effects of bridge vibration were investigated by arranging static and dynamic test data on 30 highway bridges. The test were conducted using displacement transducers and strain gages attached at midspan of each bridges over which a heavy test vehicle was running. Then, vibrational characteristics of the bridges were obtained in the time domain analysis by distinguishing the forced and free vibration state. The results obtained in this paper will be used properly to simulate the vibrational behaviour of the bridges which is in the state of the beginning in the domestic.
