Silicon nanowire devices fabricated by bottom-up methods are attracted due to their electrical, mechanical, and optical properties. Especially, to functionalize the surface of silicon nanowires by molecules has received interests. The changes in the characteristics of the molecules is delivered directly to the surface of the silicon nanowires so that the silicon nanowire can be utilized as an efficient read-out device by using the electronic state change of molecules. The surface treatment of the silicon nanowire with light-sensitive molecules can change its optical characteristics greatly. In this paper, we present the optical response of a SiNW field-effect-transistor (FET) conjugated with porphyrin molecules. We fabricated a SiNW FET and performed porphyrin conjugation on its surface. The characteristic and the optical response of the device shows a large difference after conjugation while there is not much change of the surface in the SEM observation. It attributed to the existence of few layer porphyrin molecules on the SiNW surface and efficient variation of the surface potential of the SiNW due to light irradiation.
We investigated the effect of polarity of polyimide(PI) film in amorphous (a) - twisted nematic (TN) - liquid crystal display(LCD) for response time and viewing angle. We found that the domain size of a-TN-LCD on PI film with high polarity is smaller then medium polarity. It is considered that the electro-optical characteristics are strongly dependent on this domain in a-TN-LCD. We observed the response time of a-TN-LCD on PI film with high polarity is slow as comparing to PI film with medium polarity. We suggest that the response time of a-TN-LCD is attributed surface effect between the LCs and the substrates.
This paper considers the problem of determining a set of stabilizing first order controller gains, for a given linear time invariant plant, that meets or exceeds closed loop step response specifications. The method utilizes two recent results: For a given system, (1) finding a set of stabilizing first order controller gains and (2) the relationship between time response (overshoot and speed) and the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial. The method allows us to extract a subset of first order controller gains that meets stability as well as time domain performance requirements. The computations involved are the intersections of two dimensional sets described by linear and quadratic inequalities in the controller design space. It is illustrated by examples.

The hydrodynamic radiation forces acting on a ship travelling in waves have been conventionally treated by strip theories or by direct three dimensional approaches, most of which have been formulated in frequency domain. If the forward speed of a ship varies with time, or if its path is not a straight line, conventional frequency domain analysis can no more be used, and for these cases time domain analysis may be used. In this paper, formulations are made in time domain with applications to some problems the results of which are known in frequency domain. And the results of both domains are compared to show the characteristics and validity of time domain solutions. The radiation forces acting on a three dimensional body within the framework of a linear theory. If the linearity of entire system is assumed, radiation forces due to arbitrary ship motions can be expressed by the convolution integral of the arbitrary motion velocity and the so called impulse response function. Numerical calculations are done for some bodies of simple shapes and Series-60[$C_B=0.7$] ship model. For all cases, integral equation techniques with transient Green's function are used, and velocity or acceleration potentials are obtained as the solution of the integral equations. In liner systems, time domain solutions are related with frequency domain solutions by Fourier transform. Therefore time domain solutions are Fourier transformed by suitable relations and the results are compared with various frequency domain solutions, which show good agreements.
The dynamic response of two-dimensional unbounded domain on the rigid bedrock in the time domain is numerically obtained. It is realized by the modified scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM) in which the original scaling center is replaced by a scaling line. The formulation bases on expanding dynamic stiffness by using the continued fraction approach. The solution converges rapidly over the whole time range along with the order of the continued fraction increases. In addition, the method is suitable for large scale systems. The numerical method is employed which is a combination of the time domain SBFEM for far field and the finite element method used for near field. By using the continued fraction solution and introducing auxiliary variables, the equation of motion of unbounded domain is built. Applying the spectral shifting technique, the virtual modes of motion equation are eliminated. Standard procedure in structural dynamic is directly applicable for time domain problem. Since the coefficient matrixes of equation are banded and symmetric, the equation can be solved efficiently by using the direct time domain integration method. Numerical examples demonstrate the increased robustness, accuracy and superiority of the proposed method. The suitability of proposed method for time domain simulations of complex systems is also demonstrated.

A three-dimensional time-domain calculation method is of crucial importance in prediction of the motions and wave loads of a ship advancing in a severe irregular sea. The exact solution of the free surface wave-ship interaction problem is very complicated because of the essentially nonlinear boundary conditions. In this paper, an approximate body nonlinear approach based on the three-dimensional time-domain forward-speed free-surface Green function has been presented. The Froude-Krylov force and the hydrostatic restoring force are calculated over the instantaneous wetted surface of the ship while the forces due to the radiation and scattering potentials over the mean wetted surface. The time-domain radiation and scattering potentials have been obtained from a time invariant kernel of integral equations for the potentials which are discretized according to the second-order boundary element method (Hong and Hong 2008). The diffraction impulse-response functions of the Wigley seakeeping model advancing in transient head waves at various Froude numbers have been presented. A simulation of coupled heave-pitch motion of a long rectangular barge advancing in regular head waves of large amplitude has been carried out. Comparisons between the linear and the approximate body nonlinear numerical results of motions and wave loads of the barge at a nonzero Froude number have been made.

In this paper the nonstationary response of accelerating vehicle is firstly obtained by using nonstationary road roughness model in time domain. To get the result of nonstationary response in frequency domain, the maximum entropy method is used for Processing nonstationary response of vehicle in frequency domain. The three-dimensional transient maximum entropy spectrum (MES) of response is given.
A novel three-degree-of-freedom (DOF) forced vibration system has been developed for identification of aeroelastic (self-excited) load parameters used in time-domain response analysis of wind-excited flexible structures. This system is capable of forcing sinusoidal motions on a section model of a structure that is used in wind tunnel aeroelastic studies along all three degrees of freedom - along-wind, cross-wind, and torsional - simultaneously or in any combination thereof. It utilizes three linear actuators to force vibrations at a consistent frequency but varying amplitudes between the three. This system was designed to identify all the parameters, namely, aeroelastic- damping and stiffness that appear in self-excited (motion-dependent) load formulation either in time-domain (rational functions) or frequency-domain (flutter derivatives). Relatively large displacements (at low frequencies) can be generated by the system, if required. Results from three experiments, airfoil, streamlined bridge deck and a bluff-shaped bridge deck, are presented to demonstrate the functionality and robustness of the system and its applicability to multiple cross-section types. The system will allow routine identification of aeroelastic parameters through wind tunnel tests that can be used to predict response of flexible structures in extreme and transient wind conditions.

In this study, a numerical method is developed for nonlinear analysis for soil-pile-structure interaction system in time domain. Finite elements considering material nonlinearity are used for the near field and boundary elements for the far field. In the near field, frame elements are used for modeling a pile and plane-strain elements for surrounding soil and superstructure. In. the far field, boundary element formulation using the dynamic fundamental solution is adopted and coupled with the near field. Transformation of stiffness matrices of boundary elements into time domain is performed by inverse FFT. Stiffness matrices in the near field and far field are coupled. Newmark direct time integration method is applied. Developed soil-pile-structure interaction analysis method is verified with available literature and commercial code. Also, parametric studies by developed numerical method are performed. And seismic response analysis is performed using actual earthquake records.

We establish a statistical model for the ultra-wide bandwidth (UMB) indoor channel based on over 2000 frequency response measurements campaign in a Practical apartment. The approach is based on the investigation of the statistical properties of the multipath profiles measured in different place with different rooms. Based on the experimental results, a characterization of the propagation channel from theoretic view point is described. Also we describe a method for measurement of the channel impulse response and channel transfer function. Using the measured data, the authors compares channel impulse responses obtained from time-domain and channel transfer functions obtained from frequency-domain with statistical path loss model. The bandwidth of the signal used in this experiment is from 10MHz to 8.01 GHz. The time-domain results such as maximum excess delay, men excess delay and ms delay spread are presented. As well as, omni-directional biconical antenna were used for transmitter and receiver In addition, measurements presented here support m channel model including the antenna characteristics.
