Traditionally, multi-story buildings are designed to provide stiffer structural support to withstand lateral earthquake loading. Introducing flexible elements at the base of a structure and providing sufficient damping is an alternative way to mitigate seismic hazards. These features can be achieved with a device known as an isolator. This paper covers the design of base isolators for multi-story buildings in medium-risk seismicity regions and evaluates the structural responses of such isolators. The well-known tower building for police personnel built in Dhaka, Bangladesh by the Public Works Department (PWD) has been used as a case study to justify the viability of incorporating base isolators. The objective of this research was to establish a simplified model of the building that can be effectively used for dynamic analysis, to evaluate the structural status, and to suggest an alternative option to handle the lateral seismic load. A finite element model was incorporated to understand the structural responses. Rubber-steel bearing (RSB) isolators such as Lead rubber bearing (LRB) and high damping rubber bearing (HDRB) were used in the model to insert an isolator link element in the structural base. The nonlinearities of rubber-steel bearings were considered in detail. Linear static, linear dynamic, and nonlinear dynamic analyses were performed for both fixed-based (FB) and base isolated (BI) buildings considering the earthquake accelerograms, histories, and response spectra of the geological sites. Both the time-domain and frequency-domain approaches were used for dynamic solutions. The results indicated that for existing multi-story buildings, RSB diminishes the muscular amount of structural response compared to conventional non-isolated structures. The device also allows for higher horizontal displacement and greater structural flexibility. The suggested isolation technique is able to mitigate the structural hazard under even strong earthquake vulnerability.

For the analysis of a vibrating two dimensional structure such as the simply supported rectangular plate, Spectral Finite Element Method (SFEM) has been studied. Under the condition that two parallel edges are simply supported at least and the other two edges can be arbitrary, Spectral Finite Element has been developed. Using this element SFEM is applied to the vibrating rectangular plate which all edges are simply supported, and obtain the frequency response function in frequency domain and the dynamic response in time domain. To evaluate these results normal mode method and finite element method (FEM) are also accomplished and compared. It is seen that SFEM is more powerful analysis tool than FEM in high frequency range.

When designing a test set, we need to consider constraints on items that are deemed important by item developers or test specialists. The constraints are essentially on the components of the test domain or abilities relevant to a given test set. And so if the test domain could be represented in a more refined form, test construction would be made in a more efficient way. We assume that relationships among task abilities are representable by a causal model and that the item response theory (IRT) is not fully available for them. In such a case we can not apply traditional item selection methods that are based on the IRT. In this paper, we use entropy as an uncertainty measure for making inferences on task abilities and developed an optimal item selection algorithm which reduces most the entropy of task abilities when items are selected from an item pool.
In this paper, broadband underwater propagation channel modeling based on eigenray analysis is discussed. Underwater channels are often formulated in frequency domain time-harmonic signals, which are impractical for simulating broadband signals in time domain. In this regard, time domain modeling of the underwater propagation channel is required for the simulation of broadband signals, for which the eigenray analysis based on ray tracing, resulting in multipath propagation delays in time-domain, is used in this paper. For discrete time system application, the phase, frequency-dependent loss and non-integer sample delays for each eigenray, are approximated by the finite impulse response of the broadband propagation channel.

In this paper, a stable marching-on in time(MOT) method with a time domain combined field integral equation(CFIE) is presented to obtain the transient scattering response from arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional conducting bodies. This formulation is based on a linear combination of the time domain electric field integral equation(EFIE) with the magnetic field integral equation(MFIE). The time derivatives in the EFIE and MFIE are approximated using a central finite difference scheme and other terms are averaged over time. This time domain CFIE approach produces results that are accurate and stable when solving for transient scattering responses from conducting objects. Numerical results with the proposed MOT scheme are presented and compared with those obtained from the conventional method and the inverse discrete Fourier transform(IDFT) of the frequency domain CFIE solution.

Output response for prototype system is analyzed according to the pole locations and the damping ratio changes. The system modeling is constructed for RLC-circuit and the output response is analyzed for both a unit-step and a sinusoidal input. The survey is conducted to estimate the understanding ability on the automatic control. A high understanding ability is shown up in analysing the transfer functions of control system. And improvement is manifest in the ability to understand the output response according to the parameter changes. But some difficulty is revealed in acquiring the output responses in time domain.
A linear and optimum linear systems have been reviewed in some detail. The procedure of the solution of the Wiener-Hopf equation analytically in time domain is given and the prediction of downstream outflow for given upstream inflow are made. The predicted results are fairly satisfaotory. The intended physical interpretation of the analytical solution could be descriptable but it was found that the evaluation of the parameters of the response function is rather difficult due to complicacy and a great deal of works.
In this study, a numerical procedure to solve a contact problem has been developed. The procedure takes advantage of signal processing technique in frequency domain to achieve shorter computing time. Boussinesq's equation was adopted as the response function. This procedure is applicable to a non-periodic surface profile as well as a periodic one. The validity of this procedure has been established by comparing the numerical results with the exact solutions. The fastness of this procedure was shown in comparison with other algorithm.

Dynamic loads may arise from rotating parte of pump if they are insufficiently balanced. The magnitude of pump induced vibrations varies according to the weight, eccentricity, and unbalanced mass of pump. This is a study to estimate the pump induced vibration in time and frequency domain by transfer function. The transfer function has real and imaginary information of signals, and response function has also real and imaginary information. So the vibration force can be obtained from the response and transfer function by complex calculation. The amplitudes and components of 50Hp pump vibration force are suggested.

An efficient dynamic response analysis method of structures supported by nonlinear resilient mounts when subjected to the transient base excitations is presented by using the structural synthesis method in time domain. Through a numerical example, the validity of the presented method is verified by comparison of the results with those of the 'traditional' analysis method.
