  • This paper presents a direct multivariable self-tuning controller using neural network which adapts to the changing parameters of the higher order multivariable nonlinear system with nonminimum phase behavior, mutual interactions and time delays. The nonlinearities are assumed to be globally bounded, and a multivariable nonlinear system is divided linear part and nonlinear part. The neural network is used to estimate the controller parameters, and the control output is obtained through estimated controller parameter. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm the computer simulation is done to adapt the multivariable nonlinear nonminimm phase system with time delays and changed system parameter after a constant time. The proposed method compared with direct multivariable adaptive controller using neural network.

  • This paper presents a generalized minimum-variance self-tuning controller with a PID structure using neural network which adapts to the changing parameters of the nonlinear system with nonminimum phase behavior and time delays.   • This paper is concerned with the observer design problem for linear neutral systems with time-varying delays. The problem addressed is that of designing a full-order observer that guarantees the exponential stability of the error system. An effective algebraic matrix equation approach is developed to solve this problem. In particular, both observer analysis and design problems are investigated. Sufficient conditions for a linear neutral system to be stable are first established. Furthermore, an illustrative example is used to demonstrate the validity of the proposed design procedure.

A Study on Operation Methodology of A Signalized Intersection Based on Optimization of Lane-Uses (차로배정 최적화를 고려한 신호교차로 운영방안에 관한 연구)

  • PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to propose delay-minimizing operation methodology of a signalized intersection based upon optimization of lane-uses on approaching lanes for an intersection. METHODS : For the optimization model of lane-uses, a set of constraints are set up to ensure feasibility and safety of the lane-uses, traffic flow, and signal settings. Minimization of demand to saturation flow ratio of a dual-ring signal control system is introduced to the objective function for delay minimization and effective signal operation. Using the optimized lane-uses, signal timings are optimized by delay-based model of TRANSYT-7F. RESULTS : It was found that the proposed objective function is great relation with delay time for an intersection. From the experimental results, the method was approved to be effective in reducing delay time. Especially, cases for two left-turn lanes reduced greater delays than those for a left turn lane. It is noticed that the cases for different traffic volume by approach reduced greater delays than those for the same traffic volume by approach. CONCLUSIONS : It was concluded that the objective function is proper for lane-uses optimizing model and the operation method is effective in reducing delay time for signalized intersections.

A New Sound Reception System using a Symmetrical Microphone Array and its Numerical Simulation

  • Sound reception system is required to detect the sound and the quadrantal direction of the other ship's horn sound, to overcome the effects of enclosed wall for navigation space, functioning as a sound barrier. However, the realized systems can only provide quadrantal information of the other ship. This paper presents a new arrangement of microphones, having geometrically symmetric deployment with the same distances between sensors and the same angles between adjacent sensors with respect to the geometrical center. The sound pressures received at microphones are transformed into the related envelope signals by applying Hilbert transform. The time delays between microphones are estimated by the correlation functions between the derived envelope signals. This envelope base processing mitigates the noises related to the reflection by ship and sea surface. Then, the directional information is easily defined by using the estimated time delays. The suggested method is verified by the generated signals using boundary element method for a small ship model with sea surface wave. The estimated direction is quite similar to the true one and therefore the proposed approach can be used as an efficient sound reception system.

  • It is known that existence of irregular transmission time delay is a major bottleneck for application of advanced robot control schemes to internet telerobotic systems. In the internet teleoperation system, the irregular transmission time delay causes a critical problem, which is unstable and inaccurate. This paper suggests a practical internet teleoperation system with streaming buffer system, which consists of a buffer, a buffer manager, and a control timer. The incidence of unexpected delays in uploading outside radiologic images in the transfer of patients with major trauma

  • Purpose: Critically ill patients are frequently transferred from one point of care to a hospital that can provide a higher level of care. To achieve optimal treatment within the targeted window of time necessary for time-sensitive cases like major trauma, rapid transportation and decision making are essential. Transferred patients have often undergone radiologic imaging at the referring hospital. Examining these outside images is paramount. Therefore, this study was conducted to estimate the upload time of outside images. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted from January to April 2020. Patients transferred from other hospitals with digitally recorded CDs or DVDs of radiologic or diagnostic images were included. When the patients were registered at the emergency department reception desk, the digital images were transmitted to our picture archiving and communication system using transmission software. The time of upload and the numbers of digital images were recorded. The time interval from patient registration to the time of upload was calculated. Results: The median number of images was 688 in the trauma team activation (TTA) group (688 in the TTA group, 281 in the non-TTA trauma group, and 176 in the nontrauma group, respectively; P<0.001). The median upload time was 10 minutes. The longest upload time was 169 minutes. The upload time was more than 20 minutes in 12 cases (19.4%). Conclusions: Patients with major trauma bring more images than patients with other diseases. Unexpected delays (>20 minutes) were noted in approximately 20% of cases. It is necessary to minimize this time.

  • The Seaborne Trade Volume accounts for 97% of the total. This means that the port operation management system can improve port efficiency, reducing operating costs, and the manager who manages all operations at the port needs to check and respond quickly when delays of work and equipment support is needed. Based on the real-time location information confirmation of yard automation equipment used the existing system GPS, the real-time location information confirmation system is a GPS system of the tablet, rather than a port operation system that monitors location information for the entered information, depending on the completion of the task or the start of the task. Network configurations also reduce container processing delays by using commercial LTE services that do not have shading due to containers in the yard also reduce container processing delays. Trough introduction of smart devices using Android or IOS and container processing scheduling utilizing artificial intelligence, we will build a minimum delay system with Smart Device usage of container processing applications and optimization of container processing schedule. The adoption of smart devices and the minimization of container processing delays utilizing artificial intelligence are expected to improve the quality of port services by confirming the processing containers in real time to consumers who are container information demanders.

  • Top priority to manage construction projects is given to the planning and scheduling in order to keep the project duration, which is one of the most important factors in construction management. However, recently most of public construction projects especially for civil projects are delays and preventive research, many efforts were made concerning construction delays and preventive management methods. But analysis of delay causation, which is a main key to solve the problems is not done, yet. Therefore, in this research causation delays are analyzed by characteristics of construction projects, which are type of projects, type of contracts, project participants, and general condition. As a result of the analysis, delay causation are proved to be different by characteristics of the projects. The research results will be used for prevention of time extension and dispute resolution.

Educational Levels and Delays in Start of Treatment for Head and Neck Cancers in North-East India

  • Background: There are various patient and professional factors responsible for the delay in start of treatment (SOT) for head and neck cancers (HNC). Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on data for HNC patients registered at the hospital cancer registry in North-East India. All cases diagnosed during the period of January 2010 to December 2012 were considered for the present analysis. Educational levels of all patients were clustered into 3 groups; illiterates (unable to read or write), qualified (school or high school level education), and highly qualified (college and above). Results: In the present analysis 1066 (34.6%) patients were illiterates, 1,869 (60.6%) patients were literates and 145 (4.7%) of all patients with HNC were highly qualified. The stage at diagnosis were stage I, seen in 62 (34.6%), stage II in 393 (12.8%), stage III in 1,371 (44.5%) and stage IV in 1,254 (40.7%). The median time (MT) to the SOT from date of attending cancer hospital (DOACH) was, in illiterate group MT was 18 days, whereas in the qualified group of patients it was 15 days and in the highly qualified group was 10 days. Analysis of variance showed there was a significant difference on the mean time for the delay in SOT from DOACH for different educational levels (F=9.923, p=0.000). Conclusions: Educational level is a patient related factor in the delays for the SOT in HNCs in our population.
