  • After the development of practical technology for tilting system, tilting trains are operated on conventional lines of KORAIL. As the running speed of trains is increased, it is very important to investigate the dynamic characteristics of plate girder bridges with direct track fixation. Therefore, this paper reviews the dynamic interactions between tilting train and welded plate girder bridges designed by L-22, a standard load type of KORAIL. The span lengths of plate girder analyzed here are 6.6m, 9.7m, 12.9m, 16.0m, 19.2m, 22.3m, 25.4m and 31.1m. Using 2-D dynamic analysis, the critical velocity of tilting train, vertical deflection ratios of plate girder and maximum accelerations of car body are calculated. And the analytical results are compared with those of design criteria.

  • The existing Swash Plate Type Axial Piston Motor rapidly drops efficiency at high speed in comparison with low speed. This is the reason why the motor was designed only in a viewpoint of minimum of power supply. But, in this paper, the motor which was optimally designed in a veiwpoint not only power supply but also load capacitancy, flow loss volume, axial stiffness and tilting stiffness keeps up high efficiency at high speed.

  • Engine lubrication system is generally affected by vehicle driving conditions; acceleration, braking deceleration, and cornering. The oil supply system such as oil pan, baffle plate, and oil pick-up pipe should be optimized to cope with severe driving conditions. The main purpose of this paper is to understand the effect of the engine tilting angle on the oil supply system using engine tilting test rig. For the purpose, the oil pressure fluctuation and oil aeration in the main gallery are measured at various engine tilting angles. In addition, the oil flow is visualized by using transparent oil pan to investigate the cause of the formation of oil aeration. The test results show there is a strong correlation between the main gallery oil pressure fluctuation and oil aeration. It is also found that the visualization technique is helpful to stabilize the oil supply system at severe driving conditions.

  • This paper presents the characteristics of volumetric efficiency of an axial type piston pump considering the piston tilting. A numerical analysis is carried out in order to obtain the pressure distribution considering the fluid inertia at the notch of the valve plate. The cylinder pressure variation and the discharge flow rate are measured experimentally according to the operating conditions such as supply pressure, rotational speed, and viscosity of the working fluid by using the cam type test apparatus. Leakage is also measured considering piston tilting. The characteristics of the volumetric efficiency are analyzed with respect to various operating conditions and leakage is also analyzed according to the piston tilting angle. Results are applicable to improve the design of an axial type piston pump.

  • In a tilting train, aluminium honeycomb composite panel is used for the high speed and light weight. Side wall of the tilting train includes the composite panel of carbon fiber, aluminium honeycomb and epoxy fiber as a main structure. In this study, we measure the transmission loss (TL) of the honeycomb composite panel and analyse the sound insulation performance by using the orthotropic plate model. We investigate experimentally how the air gap, plywood and glass wool improve the sound insulation performance of the composite panel. The purpose of the study is to provide practical information for the improvement of TL of the honeycomb composite panel used for the tilting train.

  • In this paper, we propose an early rehabilitation training system for the improvement of postural balance with multi-modality on a tilting bed. The integration of the visual, somatosensory and vestibular functions is significant to for maintaining the postural control of the human body. However, conventional rehabilitation systems do not provide multi-modality to trainees. We analyzed the characterization of postural control at different tilt angles of an early rehabilitation training system, which consists of a tilting bed, a visual feedback, a computer interface, a computer, and a force plate. The software that we developed for the system consists of the training programs and the analysis programs. To evaluate the characterization of postural control, we conducted the first evaluation before the beginning of the training. In the following four weeks, 12 healthy young and 5 healthy elderly subjects were trained to improve postural control using the training programs with the tilting bed. After four weeks of training, we conducted the second evaluation. The analysis programs assess (center of pressure) COP moving time, COP maintaining time, and mean absolute deviation of the trace before and after training at different tilt angles on the bed. After 4 weeks, the COP moving time was reduced, the COP maintaining time was lengthened, and the mean absolute deviation of the trace was lowered through the repeated use of vertical, horizontal, dynamic circle movement training programs. These results show that this system improves postural balance and could be applied to clinical use as an effective training system.

  • In this paper, to compensate the degraded performance in high-resolution infrared sensor due to assembling error, the influence of each component was evaluated through the sensitivity analysis of lens assembly, axis mirror, and detector and also suggested detector tilt mechanism for compensation. 3 detector tilt mechanisms were investigated. The first one is 'Shim plate' method which is applying shim on installing plane. The second one is 'Tilting screw' method that is using tilt screw for adjusting detection plane. The last one is 'Micrometer head' method that is installing micrometer on detection plane and acquiring quantitative data. Based on the investigation result, 'Tilting screw' method was applied due to ease of user control, small volume, and real-time controllability, thereby we could acquire high-resolution infrared images. The research result shows that the tilting mechanism is necessary technology for the implementation of high-resolution infrared imaging system.

  • This study addresses the modeling of a bi-directional outlet variable swash plate type axial piston pump with two EPPR valves and an analysis of the response characteristics to the angle control of that pump. In this paper, the combination of the EPPR valve and double rod type piston is referred to as the EPPR regulator. The EPPR regulator is compact and inexpensive, and has good responsiveness. Under actual pump operating conditions, because of the various external conditions of the pump, inertia is applied to the swash plate, generating the tilting torque. Also, the tilting torque can delay or shorten the response characteristics of the regulator. So we validated them through the analysis using SimulationX and these results allow users to freely integrate the EPPR regulator into the desired system.

  • We propose a new early rehabilitation training system for postural control using a tilting bed and a force plate. The conventional rehabilitation systems for postural control cannot be applied to the patients lying in bed because the rehabilitation training using those systems is possible only when the patient can stand up by himself or herself. Moreover, there has not existed any device that could provide the sense of balance or the sensation of walking to the patients in bed. By using a tilting bed, a visual display, and a force plate, we have developed a new rehabilitation training system for balance control of the patients in bed providing sense of balance and the sensation of walking to the patient. Through the experiments with real people, we verified the effectiveness of the new early rehabilitation training system. The results showed that this system is an effective system for the early rehabilitation training and that our system might be useful as clinical equipment.

  • Objectives : To investigate contributing degree of other factors except pelvic tilting to F.L.L.D by analizing with Gonstead technique on the correlation between femur head height discrepancy on the standing pelvic AP view and F.L.L.D caused by pelvic tilting. Method : We analysed standing pelvis AP X-ray of 70 patients who had visited at the department acupunture and moxibustion in Conmaul oriental medical hospital, during May, 1st, 2004 - July, 30th, 2004, with low back pain or lower extremity pain. We excluded the person with any past history of polio, genetic defect, malunited fracture, growth plate injury, infection and overgrowth attributable to hemangioma, or arteriovenous fistula. Results & Conclusion : The functional leg length discrepancy caused by pelvic tilting and femur head height difference had no statistical difference(p=0.132) but poorly correlated(Pearson ${\nu}=0.05$). In the 94.28% of subjects, the femur head height difference wasn't in accord with F.L.L.D. caused by pelvic tilting. In 47.14% of subjects were expected to have over $3^{mm}$ of leg length discrepancy after pelvic adjustment. The mean of measurement difference between two methods was $3.76{\pm}3.12^{mm}$ and the range was $0{\sim}11.4^{mm}$. Consequently, we must consider not only functional leg length discrepancy caused by pelvic tilting but also anatomical leg length discrepancy, misalignment of ankle, knee or hip joint etc.
