For precision farming the influences of site-specific N application on rice grain yield and quality were investigated in 0.5 ha paddy field from 2001 to 2003. In pre-cultured soil, EC, O.M., total nitrogen, phosphate and potassium content showed high spatial variation, ranging from 11.63 to 52.03% of coefficient of variation, while that of pH was relatively low. In rice growth characteristics, tiller number at panicle formation stage was more than 10% in coefficient of variation, but plant height, SPAD figure at panicle formation stage and milled rice yield, protein content in brown rice showed less below 10%. Spatial dependence was over 0.60 in pH, total nitrogen, phosphate and potassium in pre-cultured soil and was over 0.50 in plant height, SPAD figure and protein content, while it was below 0.22 in tiller number at panicle formation. The range of spatial dependence was longer than 20m in all factors except for protein content in brown rice. Basal dressing nitrogen rate was positively correlated with PH, $SiO_{2}$, plant height and SPAD figure. Nitrogen fertilization rate at panicle formation stage was positively correlated with EC and O.M.. Protein content in brown rice was positively correlated with $SiO_{2}$ in pre-cultured soil. Milled rice yield was positively correlated with plant height, tiller number and SPAD figure at panicle formation stage.
This experiment was conducted to compare the change of growth and canopy photosynthesis between transplanting and direct seeding on paddy surface in rice. Total tiller number by the early vegetative growth stage was significantly higher in the direct seeding flooded paddy surface, while it was reversed from later vegetative growth stage in terms of tillering ability per unit period. But total panicle number was higher in direct seeding on paddy surface. Leaf area index, nitrogen content in leaf blade and canopy photosynthetic ability at later vegetative growth stage were lower in direct seeding on flooded paddy surface than transplanting. Biological yield at harvest stge, leaf area index and conopy photosynthetic activity at heading stage were gradually increasing according to nitrogen level increased both transplanting and direct seeding on paddy surface. Leaf area index, canopy photosynthetic activity, however, were lower in direct seeding on paddy surface than transplanting in the same nitrogen level. Nitrogen content per unit leaf area was high in transplanting.

This experiment was carried out to determine the effect of nitrogen application level of cattle sluny(T1:150, T3:250, T53.50 kglha) and chemical fertilizer(T2:150, T4:250, T6:350 kg/ha) on the growth characteristics, dry matter yield and chemical soil property of Sorghum-Sudangrass hybrid [Sorghum bicolor L. Moench]. The results obtained are summarized as follows: Mean stem diameter was significantly increased by increasing nitrogen application level of cattle slurry and chemical fertilizer. Especially, T6 treatment was the highest as 11.1 mm, while T1 treatment w a the lowest as 0.3 mrn. According to the same level of nitrogen application, cattle slurry treaunent(T1, T3 and T5) were showed a lower mean stem hardness than chemical fertilizer treatment(T2, T4 and T6). Especially, T3 treatment was the softest at 0.7 kg/$cm^2$. The dead stubble and tiller number were increased by increasing nitrogen level of cattle slurry and chemical fertilizer(P
Growth characters of dry seeded paddy rice was studied at different levels of nitrogen(N) split application (basal : immediately after irrigation : 2 weeks after irrigation: 25 days before heading: heading stage with 10 : 20 : 30 : 20 : 20%, 20 : 30 : 20 : 20 : 10%, 30 : 40 : 0 : 20 : 10%, and 100% basal of slow release urea) in tillage and no-tillage systems. On May 17 in 1990, 6kg /10a of dry seeds of a breeding line of Milyang 95 was broadcasted and covered with a power tiller. Between tillage and no-tillage systems yield and its components, lodging related characteristics, and contents of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin of culm base were similar. Leaf area index at heading stage was higher in tillage, but lodging index was lower compared with those in no-tillage plot. Culm length, effective tiller ratio, culm base weight, 1000-grain weight, harvest index in slow release N applied plot were higher compared with those in other N treatments. Grain yield of rice among levels of N split applications was similar in tillage, but it was higher in slow release N applied plot in no-tillage if 1kg /10a of additional N was applied as urea at panicle formation stage. At early growth stage N concentration and N uptake were lower in the slow release N applied plot, but higher after heading stage compared with other N treatments. The number of tillers was lowest in slow release N applied plot during the tillering stage, but the number of panicles per hill was similar to other N treatments.

This experiment was carried out to determine the effect of mixture ratios of worm cast and soil on the growth orchardgrass seedlings, and estimate the adequate mixture ratio of worm cast for plant growth media. Mixture ratios of worm cast and soil were 100:0, 80:20, 60:40, 40:60, 20:80 and 0:100, respectively. The results were summarized as follows; 1. The value of dry weight of shoot(SW), dry weight of root(RW), number of tillers per plant(NT) and biological yield(BY) were the highest in the mixture with 60% of worm cast. Particularly, the dry weight distribution to root in 20%-60% mixture ratios of worm cast were higher than those grown in 80%-100% mixture ratios of worm cast, it may due to the enhancement of root growth by adquate worm cast mix. 2. The orchardgrass seedlings in the 60% mixture ratio of worm cast grown in favourable soil conditions compared to those grown in other mixtrure ratios of worm cast and soil without worm cast. The soil analysis data showed that 60% mixture ratio of worm cast contained pH 6.16, 13.84% of organic matter, 0.84% of total nitrogen, 1,413.9ppm of available phosphorus and 16.7me/100g of cation exchange capacity, respectively. 3. Biological yield(BY) indicated positive significant correlation with the dry weights of shoot(SW) and root(RW). And, the dry weight of shoot(SW) had positive correlation with the number of tiller per plant(NT) and dry weight of tiller(WT).
This experiment was carried out at National Crop Experiment Station in 1994 to obtain basic information of growth characters and yield of rice under various seeding methods in direct seeding on dry paddy. Hwaseongbyeo sown on April 27 by flat drill seeding, high ridged drill seeding and hill seeding under different seed conditions, soil convering after seeding and irrigation methods. Nitrogen applied 150kg /ha by 3 times split application at rate of 40:30:30% (basal: 5th leaf stage:panicle initiation stage). Seedling stands were higher in flushed irrigation water after seeding than in irrigation at 3rd leaf stage, and it also was higher in high ridged drill seedings than in flat drill seedings. Days for seedling stand, heading date were shorten 6~10 days, 2~3 days by flushed irrigation water after seeding, respectively. Number of tiller was more in high ridged drill seedings than conventional seedling method(Flat drill seeding + intact seed + soil covering after seeding + irrigation at 3rd leaf stage after seedling stand) at early growth stage, but the most tiller number was highest in developed seeding method(Flat drill seeding + soaked seed + non soil covering after seeding + fulshed irrigation water after seeding) at heading stage among used seeding methods. Lodging index was slightly high in high ridged drill seeding and conventional seeding. Field lodging was degree 1 in high ridged drill seedings and developed seeding, Milled rice yield in developed seeding was increased 7% compaired with conventional seeding(5.35t /ha).
Forty nine accessions of the Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench collected from different agronomical zone of Gangwondo province, Korea were characterized morphologically on field trial. Plant length, stem diameter, tiller number, ear type, ear length, ear width, leaves length, leaves width and leaf color differed significantly in the cultivated accessions. Out of forty nine test accessions, six accessions (12.2%) showed comparatively taller height, measuring more than 300 cm, while, other ten test accessions (20.4%) were measured from 200~300 cm. There were no significant differences in the diameter of stem in the collected test accessions (2~3 cm). Of the total test accession, seven accessions showed leaf length of over 70 cm, and twenty two test accession revealed leaf length between 60-70 cm. Forty nine of the collected test accessions showed narrow and short leaves with white mid vain. These results provided additional information for the breeding programs and conservation of Sorghum bicolor as a bio-energy crop.

This experiment was carried out to assess the growth and development of five rye(Secale cereale L.) cultivars based on the Feekes scale in relation to sowing date at the Experimental Livestock Farm, Seoul National University(SNU), Suwon from 30 September 2001 to 4 May 2002. The experiment was conducted in split plot design with three replications. The main plots consisted of two sowing date such as early(30 September) and late(15 October). The subplots consisted of rye cultivars of five different maturity groups such as 'Kodiak', 'Koolgrazer', 'Danko', 'Homil22' and 'Olhomil'. The plant height of early sowing rye cultivars was higher than that of late one. Among the rye cultivars tested, plant heights of early maturing cultivars were higher than those of the other cultivars. The tiller number at early sowing(48.0) was higher than that of late(24.3), however, late maturing cultivars were higher than those of the other cultivars among the rye cultivars tested. Growth and development in the early sowing were generally three days earlier than those of late sowing cultivars. Growth and development in 'Olhomil' rye cultivars was earlier than 'Danko' rye cultivars when sown in early, but 'Olhomil' and 'Koolgrazer' rye cultivars showed an early maturity than 'Danko' rye when sown in late. Therefore, the developmental stages of winter rye cultivars could be categorised the following maturity; 'Olhomil' and 'Koolgrazer' are early in maturity, 'Homil22' is medium, and 'Kodiak' and 'Danko' are late in maturity.
This experiment was carried out to confirm characteristics of macro granule (GG) for herbicidal efficacy by using remote-controlled aerial application (RCAA) to control annual and perennial weeds in rice paddy field, and phytotoxicity to rice and non target plants of formulation types. Herbicidal efficacy of GG applied by using RCAA was 93.6~96.6% in flooded direct sowing cultivation. There was no difference in phytotoxicity between the hand and the power applicator methods in terms of height, number of tiller and yield component. Herbicidal efficacy of GG applied by using RCAA was 92.7~97.3% in machine transplanting rice field. There was no difference in phytotoxicity between the hand and RCAA methods in terms of height, number of tiller and yield component. When suspension concentrate (SC) and GG were applied directly on Chinese cabbage, lettuce, cucumber, pepper, soybean and wild sesame, several symptoms of injury such as, the inhibition of growth, yellowish, leaf fall and withering was observed.
This study was carried out in the central part of Korea in 1972 to investigate optimum grain number per square meter and variation of the yield and its components in the direct sowing culture on irrigated paddy field. The results could be summarized as follows; 1. Number of maximum tillerings was directly increased with increase of grain number from 120 to 280 per square meter and it was gradually decreased with increase of number sowing grain. So number of maximum tillerings showed at the plot of 280 grain per square meter. Also it was showed remarkable competition at the plot more than 280 grain per square meter. 2. Percentage of effective tiller was decreased with increase of number of sowing grain from 120 to 280 per square meter and after it was gradually decreased with increase of number of sowing grain. 3. It was not remarkable competition in plot less than 1, 000 tillering per square meter on the number of maximum tillerings. 4. It was remarkable positive correlation between the number of panicle and the number of sowing grain, but it was tendency to negative correlation between the number of panicle and the number of spiklets per panicle, and between the number of panicle and the ripening ratio. 5. Correlation coefficient between the yield and the number of spiklet per square meter of land area was 0.929, r=0.695 in the yield and the number of panicle, r=0.796 in the number of panicles and the number of spiklets per square meter Also in rank correlation, it was showed most highly positive correlation(r=0.954) between the yield and the number of panicles, so number of panicles was most largely dominated on yield among the yield components in direct sowing culture on irrigated paddy field. 6. It was producted highest yield in the plot of 280 grain sowing per square meter.
