다층 평면형 초고주파 필터의 설계 (A Design of Multi-layer Planar Type Microwave Filter)

  • In this paper, a planar type bandpass filter in multilayered PCB is presented. The multilayered PCB structure has some advantages on fabricating microwave devices such as the size reduction and ability of tight coupling by folding or embedding. The proposed BPF has two transmission zeros at the both sides of the center frequency by using independent electric and magnetic coupling structure. The designed BPF with four layer teflon PCBs of dielectric constant 2.94 has dimensions of 24x20x1.524 in mm, center frequency of 2.47GHz and bandwidth of about l00MHz. A good agrement is achieved between the measured result and the simulated one. The influences of air gaps between the layers are also analyzed and presented.

Biological characteristics of osteoporosis drugs: the effect of osteoblast-osteoclast coupling

  • Osteoporosis is a common disease characterized by bone mass reduction, leading to an increased risk of bone fracture, and it is caused by an imbalance of osteoblastic bone formation and osteoclastic bone resorption. Current osteoporosis drugs aim to reduce the risk of bone fracture, either by increasing osteoblastic bone formation or decreasing osteoclastic bone resorption. However, osteoblasts and osteoclasts are closely coupled, such that any reagent altering the differentiation or activity of one eventually affects the other. This tight coupling between osteoblasts and osteoclasts not only limits the therapeutic efficacy but also threatens the safety of osteoporosis drugs. This review will discuss the biological mechanisms of action of currently approved medications for osteoporosis treatment, focusing on the osteoblast-osteoclast coupling.

Low-energy band structure very sensitive to the interlayer distance in Bernal-stacked tetralayer graphene

  • We have investigated Bernal-stacked tetralayer graphene as a function of interlayer distance and perpendicular electric field by using density functional theory calculations. The low-energy band structure was found to be very sensitive to the interlayer distance, undergoing a metal-insulator transition. It can be attributed to the nearest-layer coupling that is more sensitive to the interlayer distance than are the next-nearest-layer couplings. Under a perpendicular electric field above a critical field, six electric-field-induced Dirac cones with mass gaps predicted in tight-binding models were confirmed, however, our density functional theory calculations demonstrate a phase transition to a quantum valley Hall insulator, contrasting to the tight-binding model prediction of an ordinary insulator.

On the Error Bound of the Approximate Solution of a Nonclassically Damped Linear System under Periodic Excitations

  • One common procedure in the approximate solution of a nonclassically damped linear system is to neglect the off-diagonal elements of the normalized damping matrix. A tight error bound, which can be computed with relative ease, is given for this method of solution. The role that modal coupling plays in the control of error is clarified. If the normalized damping matrix is strongly diagonally dominant, it is shown that adequate frequency separation is not necessary to ensure small errors.

N단 평행 결합 선로를 이용한 90$^{\circ}$광대역 3dB결합기 설계 (A Wideband 3dB Quadrature Coupler Design Using N-Section Parallel-Coupled Lines)

  • 본 논문에서는 N개의 평행 결합선로를 이용한 3dB 결합기를 해석하였으며, 유도된 식에 의하여 최소의 단수와 크기로 3dB 결합기를 설계하였다. 기존의 Spectral Domain상에서 N단 평행 결합선로의 복잡한 관계식 유도를 S 파라미터 관계식으로 간단히 유도 하였으며, 유도된 식의 타당성을 위해 실제 제작 검증하였다. 제작된 결합기는 Loose coupling의 평행 결합 선로의 광대역 특성을 그대로 이용하기 때문에 Lange Coupler와 같은 높은 임피던스와 Tight coupling을 구현 할 필요가 없으며, wire bonding도 용이하게 된다. 최소의 단수로 구현하기 위해 RT/Duroid의 R06006과 같은 높은 유전율과 두꺼운 기판을 사용하여 2단으로 3dB 구현이 가능하게 하였다. 제작결과 3.6GHz에서5.5GHz로 대략 42%(0.5dB imbalance) 정도의 광대역특성을 가지고 위상오차도 1$^{\circ}$내외의 결합기를 구현할 수 있었고 격리도 특성 또한 대역 내에서 15dB 내외의 특성을 보였다.

T자형 슬롯을 갖는 CPW 방향성 결합기 (CPW Directional Couplers with T-Shaped Slots)

  • 본 논문에서는 뒷면도체를 부동도체로 갖는 CPW 방향성 결합기에서 방향성 향상을 위한 뒷면도체의 변형에 관하여 논하였다. 이때 뒷면도체는 dumbbell 모양의 일반화된 구조와 그 변형구조로 가운데 부분이 완전히 제거된 경우도 가지며, 결합도의 감소를 막기 위한 보완구조로 접지면에서 T자형으로 확장된 슬롯을 함께 사용하였다. T자형 슬롯을 갖고 뒷면도체의 변형을 통한 방향성의 개선방법은 결합도의 큰 감소 없이 방향성 개선을 이룰 수 있다. 1 GHz에서 설계된 T자형 슬롯과 뒷면도체를 갖는 CPW 방향성 결합기는 full-wave analysis를 사용한 EM solver의 계산 결과 및 측정 결과를 통하여 큰 결합특성의 감소 없이 높은 방향성 특성을 가짐을 확인하였다.

The Analysis of tight Coupling and Propagation for a Composite Fiber-Dielectric Slab with a Conductor Cladding

  • A theoretical presentation of evanescent coupling is offered with respect to the refractive indexes between a side-polished optical fiber and an infinitely planar waveguide with a conductor cladding (PWGCC). The PWG is suspended at a constant distance from an unclad fiber core and attached with the perfect conductor (PEC) on one side. The behavior of the distributed couple. is examined using a coupled mode model, which takes account of the two dimensions of the waveguide configuration. The coupling and propagation of light were found to depend on both the relationship between the refractive index values of each structure and the configuration of the side-polished fiber used in the PWGCC. The spreading of light in the unconfined direction of the PWGCC is described in terms of a simple geometrical interpretation of the synchronization condition that is in agreement with a previous investigation of the problem based on the coupled-mode theory (CMT). The power of the light propagation in the fiber decreased exponentially along the fiber axis as it was transferred to the PWGCC, where it was carried away.

도체 두께를 가진 결합선로를 이용하여 강한 결합특성을 갖는 1/4파장 역방향 방향성 결합기의 설계 (Design of Tight Coupled 1/4 Wavelength Backward-Wave Directional Coupler using Coupled Lines with Finite Metallization Thickness)

  • 본 논문에서는 유한한 도체 두께를 갖는 결합선로를 이용하여 1/4파장 역방향 방향성 결합기를 설계하였다. 방향성 결합기를 구성하는 유한 도체 두께를 갖는 결합선로를 해석하기 위한 방법으로 간단하고 빠른 수치해석 방법인 모드정합법을 사용하였다. 본 논문의 해석 결과는 도체 두께를 고려한 역방향 방향성 결합기의 설계가, 도체 두께를 고려하지 않고 설계한 경우 기존에 알려졌던 단점들인 약한 결합특성, 낮은 지향성, 그리고 비현실적인 결합선로의 폭을 극복할 수 있음을 보여준다. 또한, 수치해석 결과로부터 l/4파장 역방향 방향성 결합기에서는 도체 두께의 고려로 강한 결합특성을 만드는 것이 가능하지만, 결합길이가 약간 길어진다는 사실을 확인하였다. 본 논문에서 해석한 유한한 도체 두께는 역방향 방향성 결합기의 새로운 설계 변수로서 사용이 가능하며, 아울러 다양한 마이크로파 집적회로의 설계에도 응용이 가능함을 보여준다.

일부 접지면이 제거된 수직 장착 평면 회로를 이용한 광대역 하이브리드 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on Broadband Hybrid Design Using Vertically Installed Planar Circuit with Partially Removed Ground Plane)

  • 본 논문에서는 $2\~6$ Hz의 광대역에서 -3 dB 결합 특성과 $90^{\circ}$ 위상차를 제공하는 마이크로스트립 하이브리드를 설계하였다. 3-단 결합기 구조를 가지며, 양 측면 단은 대칭 가장자리 결합 선로로 구현되는 반면에, 가운데 단은 수직으로 장착된 평면 회로로 구성된다. 특히 수직 장착된 평면 회로는 밀 결합 특성을 얻기 위해 일부 접지면이 제거된 형태를 갖는다. 본 하이브리드는 마이크로스트립 구조이기 때문에 제작이 용이하고, 수직 장착 기판을 특성 적정화의 조정점으로 이용함으로써 양호한 튜닝 유연성을 갖는다. 무엇보다도 제안한 하이브리드는 구조와 제작의 단순성에 비해 만족할만한 성능을 제공한다.

Comparison of Different Permeability Models for Production-induced Compaction in Sandstone Reservoirs

  • We investigate pore pressure conditions and reservoir compaction associated with oil and gas production using 3 different permeability models, which are all based on one-dimensional radial flow diffusion model, but differ in considering permeability evolution during production. Model 1 assumes the most simplistic constant and invariable permeability regardless of production; Model 2 considers permeability reduction associated with reservoir compaction only due to pore pressure drawdown during production; Model 3 also considers permeability reduction but due to the effects of both pore pressure drawdown and coupled pore pressure-stress process. We first derive a unified stress-permeability relation that can be used for various sandstones. We then apply this equation to calculate pore pressure and permeability changes in the reservoir due to fluid extraction using the three permeability models. All the three models yield pore pressure profiles in the form of pressure funnel with different amounts of drawdown. Model 1, assuming constant permeability, obviously predicts the least amount of drawdown with pore pressure condition highest among the three models investigated. Model 2 estimates the largest amount of drawdown and lowest pore pressure condition. Model 3 shows slightly higher pore pressure condition than Model 2 because stress-pore pressure coupling process reduces the effective stress increase due to pore pressure depletion. We compare field data of production rate with the results of the three models. While models 1 and 2 respectively overestimates and underestimates the production rate, Model 3 estimates the field data fairly well. Our result affirms that coupling process between stress and pore pressure occurs during production, and that it is important to incorporate the coupling process in the permeability modeling, especially for tight reservoir having low permeability.
