Using a sledge net, the benthic amphipods were taken over one cycle of the neap and spring tides in January 1993 at the sandy shore surf zone of Dolsando, southern Korea. From these samples, we investigated the diel and tidal effects on the intraspecific zonation of Pontogeneia rostrata. The density of p. rostrata was higher during neap tide than spring. Of three categories (adult males and females and juveniles), juveniles and males attained to its highest density during neap and spring tides, respectively. Length- frequency data show that the high mortality of juveniles seemed to occur in winter. In the surface at night, it is significant that juveniles were significantly more abundant during neap tide than spring, whereas both adult males and females were more abundant during spring tide than neap. This suggests that the vortical migration patterns of juveniles and adults vary with the type of tides. During flood of spring tide, more than $90\%$ of population collected at the area above the mean sea level (MSL) were adults. With a decrease of female/male ratio, size of males increased there but that of female did not change, indicating an active migration of large males. This behavior can provide an extension of distribution area far large males, and also give a competitive advantage to large male against small one for mate and feeding. Although adult p. rostrata was collected at 100 cm above MSL at night during spring tide, a major portion of population as usually present on the shore below MSL. The center of zonation was restricted from 50 cm to 250 cm below MSL.

In this study, the time-dependent chloride ingress behavior in GGBFS concrete was evaluated considering marine exposure conditions and the properties of concrete mixtures. The concrete mixture for this study had 3 levels of water to binder ratio and the substitution rate of GGBFS, and outdoor exposure tests were performed considering submerged area, tidal area, and splash area. According to the evaluation results of diffusion coefficient considering properties of concrete mixtures, as the substitution rate of GGBFS increased, the decreasing rate of the diffusion coefficient decreased based on exposure periods of 730 days(2 years). As the evaluation result of the diffusion behavior according to the marine exposure conditions, the diffusion coefficient was evaluated in the order of submerged area, tidal area, and splash area. In tidal area, a relatively high diffusion coefficient was evaluated due to the repetition of wet and dry seawater. In this study, the effects of GGBFS substitution rate on the decreasing behavior of apparent chloride diffusion coefficient was analyzed in consideration of exposure conditions and periods. Linear regression analysis was performed with apparent chloride diffusion coefficient as output value and GGBFS substitution rate as input value. After 730 days of exposure, the effect of GGBFS on diffusion coefficient was significantly reduced. Even for OPC concrete, after 730 days, the diffusion coefficient was as low as that of GGBFS concrete, so the gradient of the regression equation decreased significantly. It is thought that improved durability performance for chloride ingress can be secured before 730 days through the use of GGBFS.
This study was conducted to investigate liquid pig manure (LPM) application rates on the growth characteristics, yield, and feed value of whole crop barley in Yeongsangang and Saemangeum reclaimed tidal land. Electronic conductivity (EC), organic matter (OM), and available phosphate (Av. $P_2O_5$) increased in chemical properties of Yeongsangang and Saemangeum soil as raising LPM application level. As increasing LPM application level, exchangeable $Na^+$ significantly increased in Yeongsangang, while exchangeable $K^+$ significantly increased in Saemangeum. Plant height was not significantly different from LPM 100% to LPM 200% in Yeongsangang and in Saemangeum. Dry matter yield of whole crop barley increased steadily, but crop yield of LPM 200% in Yeongsangang ($10.5ton\;ha^{-1}$) was as much as that of LPM 150% ($10.0ton\;ha^{-1}$). Yield of LPM 200% ($11.2ton\;ha^{-1}$) in Saemangeum was similar to that of LPM 150% ($10.5ton\;ha^{-1}$). Crude protein (CP) increased depending on LPM application level, but total digestible nutrients (TDN) increased regardless of LPM application level. LPM 200% was the highest in TDN yield (Yeongsangang: $7.4ton\;ha^{-1}$, Saemangeum: $6.9ton\;ha^{-1}$), but there was no statistical difference between LPM 150% (Yeongsangang: $6.9ton\;ha^{-1}$, Saemangeum: $6.6ton\;ha^{-1}$) and LPM 200%. From the results described above, optimum rate of LPM for cultivating whole crop barley is considered 100% in Yeongsangang reclaimed tidal land and 150% in Saemangeum reclaimed tidal land, showing that the effect of LPM application is better in Segmentation than that in Yeongsangang for yield of whole crop barley.
This study was aimed to classify the intertidal macrozoobenthic community status after 2 years of Sea Prince oil spill, and oil spill effects along oil spreading track from heavily impacted to unaffected reference site. Field sampling was initiated in late February and continued through November 1998 seasonally, after 2.5 years of oil spill. 7 rocky sampling sites were selected among coastal regions coated and/or affected by the Sea Prince spilled oil. Identified species was 158 species, 65 family, 24 order, 9 class, 5 phylum. Mollusca was the dominant faunal group comprising 100 species (63.3%), and followed by 38 species of Crustacea (24.1%), 12 species of Echinodermata (7.6%), 5 species of Porifera (3.2%), and 3 species of Cnidaria (1.9%). On Dugpo of Sori Island, the fewest species was collected from 28 species to 35 species seasonally among sampling stations. But far away Dugpo toward Gamak Bay, the number of species increased, collecting the maximum on Sohwoenggan Island. At the wreck site of Sori Island, especially the species number of attached animals such as poriferans and anthozoans was very low compared to another site. The density and biomass on the higher tidal zone increased toward the low affected sites, but biomass on middle tidal zone decreased. The invertebrate biomass of study area was dependent on the sessile animals. The major dominant species were small-sized barnacles, Chthmallus challengeri, periwinkles, Littorina brevicula, mussels, Septifer virgatus, and so on. The biomass of C. challengeri and L. brevicula on the higher tidal zone was highest in the wreck site of Sori Island and decreased further and further. However, mussels on the middle tidal zone showed the inverse trends because of the larger individual size of mussel inhabited in Sori Island than those of another sites. As a result of community analysis, the effect of oil spill was not found distinctly. Several ecological indices and cluster analysis did not show the meaningful variation with oil track despite of the conspicuous differences among tidal heights. These indicate that the macrozoobenthic community level of oil spreaded zone recovered in some degree after the Sea Prince oil spill accident, but population or individual levels of dominant sessile animals took more recovery times.
This study was performed to evaluate the anesthetic effects of the epidural administration of tiletamin-zolazepam and lidocaine to rats. Blood pressure, heart rate, respiratoty rate and blood chemistry were examined according to the time lapse, after the administration of tiletamine-zolazepam, lidocaine or saline. The results obtained were as follows. 1, Tiletamine-zolazepam group revealed fast anesthesia onset time (p<0.01) and also revealed prolonged ambulation time compared with lidocaine group (p<0.01). 2. In the effects of blood pressure, tiletamine-zolazepam group revealed significantly higher value than lidocaine group or saline group, and revealed the highest value at 20 minutes after administration. According to the time lapse, blood pressure of tiletamine-zolazepam group was recovered and showed similar value with lidocaine group and control group at 90 minutes after administration. 3. In the effects of heart rate, tiletamine-zolazepam group revealed significantly lower value than lidocaine group or saline group and revealed the lowest value at 30 minutes after administration, and recovered similar value with pre-administration at 90 minutes after administration. 4. In the effects of respiratory rate, lidocaine group revealed significantly lower value at 30 minutes administration compared with 0 and 60 minutes after administration (p<0.01). Tiletamine-zolazepam group also revealed significantly lower value at 30 minutes compared with 0 and 60 minutes after administration (p<0.01). The changes at 60 minutes after administration, lidocaine group revealed lower value than saline or tiletamine-zolazepam group, and tiletamine-zolazepam group revealed similar value with 0 minutes. 5. In the effects of tidal volume, lidocaine group revealed significantly lower value than saline group (p<0.001) and tiletamine-zolazepam group also revealed lower value than saline group, at 30 minutes after administration. The values at 60 minutes after administration, revealed similar results with that of 30 minutes after administration. 6. In the blood chemistry, the values of alanine transminase (ALT), aspartate transminase(AST) and creatinine did not reveal significant results at 60 minutes after administration. The values of ALT at 60 minutes slightly decreased compared with pre-administration, and revealed normal level.
This paper is concerned with the actual comparison analysis for the freshening process in the two selected experimental reservoirs. At the deep freshening reservoir, salinity and depth of the freshwater layer were estimated by simulation technique using the quantitative equation for the two layered flow structures. First of all, it is shown that the effects of underdraiange conduit in the lower layer were reported more effective for the control of upper layer salinity comparing with the case of no underdraiange conduit. Further the results of computation were later compared with the real observed values and the relating parameters of the salt balance equation are conformed even though approximately. Finally it was represented that the salinity of upper layer is easily diluted not only by the tidal gate but also by the underdraiange conduit in the lower layer of the freshening reservoir.
Limb scanning measurements of the O2 (0-0) Atmospheric band emission by the TIDI instrument aboard the TIMED satellite during 2003-2005 are analyzed to examine the tidal effects on their vertical emission rate according to the solar and geomagnetic activities. The data are restricted at latitudes $60^{\circ}S-60^{\circ}N$ to avoid the contributions by the auroral emission. The variation of the vertical emission rate in latitude and local time is summarized in the yaw periods. The vertical emission profiles of the O2 (0-0) Atmospheric band nightglow averaged in the $10^{\circ}$ latitude range are investigated. The result shows the inverse relationship between the peak emission height and the integrated brightness.

Corrosion of reinforced concrete structures in marine environment is one of the most important mechanisms of deterioration. Under Korean highway bridge, the time for the steel reinforcement in the concrete to exhibit initial signs of corrosion is within three decades. Therefore, 'SUM JIN' highway bridge, located in a corrosive marine environment on the south of Korea, had been examined the current condition of the steel reinforcement corrosion in concrete by half-cell potentials, chloride contamination of concrete and so on. According to the tests, the protecting film around the reinforcement is deteriorated and corrosion activity developed in tidal zone. The purpose of this paper is to report the effects of 'SUM JIN' highway bridge damaged by chlodide attack and to present the results of repair of 'SUM JIN' highway concrete bridge in domestic marine environment.
Environment has a significant impact on the evolution of dark halo profiles. We used a cosmological N-body simulation based on WMAP5 cosmology to study environmental effects on halo profiles. Host haloes located in sparse regions are highly concentrated, and more massive haloes have higher concentration index. This is because mass accretion affects only the outer part of the halo and consequently increase the virial radius having no effect on the scale radius. Conversely, host haloes located in dense regions have low concentration index. This is because frequent mergers affect even the inner part of the halo. So, scale radius increases with the growth of virial radius. Evolutions of subhalo profiles are essentially different from those of host haloes because subhaloes undergo tidal stripping. The stripping begins once a subhalo approaches closer than ~3 virial radii of the host halo. During the stripping, the inner part of the subhalo keep following NFW profile, but the mass of the outer part gradually decreases. As a result, when the subhalo reaches the pericenter of its host, only about inner 30% of the subhalo follows the NFW profile.
The two-halo conformity is that if a central galaxy in a dark matter halo is quenched in star formation, the central galaxies in other neighboring halos (within ~ 4 Mpc) even with no causal contact seem conformed to be quenched. The galactic similarity ranging far beyond the virial radius of each dark matter halo cannot be explained by known environmental effects (ram pressure, tidal interaction, etc.). Here, using a cosmological hydrodynamic simulation, we put forward new physical origins for the phenomenon; the back-splash galaxies scenario and the halo assembly bias scenario. We discuss the relative importance of the two explanations on a quantitative basis.
