  • Although the Ti-6Al-4V alloy has been used in the aircraft industry owing to its excellent mechanical properties and low density, the low formability of the alloy hinders broadening its applications. Recently, laser-powder bed fusion (L-PBF) has become a novel process for overcoming the limitations of the alloy (i.e., low formability), owing to the high degree of design freedom for the geometry of products having outstanding performance used in high-tech applications. In this study, to investigate the effect of bulk shape on the microstructure and mechanical properties of L-PBFed Ti-6Al-4V alloys, two types of samples are fabricated using L-PBF: thick and thin samples. The thick sample exhibits lower strength and higher ductility than the thin sample owing to the larger grain size and lower residual dislocation density of the thick sample because of the heat input during the L-PBF process.

  • 금속복합재료에서는 강화재와 기지재 사이의 열팽창계수 차이에 의해 복합재료 내부에 잔류응력이 남아있어 복합재료 전체의 강도저하를 가져온다. 본 연구에서는 TiNi 형상기억합금을 강화재료로써 이러한 잔류응력 문제를 해결하기 위하여 이용하였다. TiNi 형상기억합금은 형상기억효과를 이용하여 복합재료의 잔류응력문제를 해결할 뿐만 아니라 복합재료의 인장강도를 증가시키는 역할을 한다. 핫프레스 방법에 의해 제작된 형상기억복합재료의 강도증가를 위하여 냉간압연을 실시하여 실험을 실시하였다. 이와 같이 제작된 형상기억복합재료의 저온에서의 미시적 손상거동을 평가하기 위하여 음향방출기법을 이용하였다. 또한 열충격을 받은 시험편의 손상에 대한 연구도 이루어졌다.

신조성의 Ti-기반 합금 수소분리막의 설계 및 수소투과 성능 (Fabrication and Hydrogen Separation Performance of Newly Created Ti-Based Alloy Membrane)

  • 본 실험에서는 Ti를 기반으로 한 평판 수소 분리막을 설계하여 제조하였다. 새로운 조성의 Ti를 베이스로 한 수소 분리막을 찾기 위하여 여러 합금들의 물리화학적 특성과 수소투과도 사이의 상관관계에 대해 조사하였다. 이를 바탕으로 신조성의 합금막 2종(Ti14.2Zr66.4Ni12.6Cu6.8 (70 ㎛), Ti17.3Zr62.7Ni20 (80 ㎛))을 설계 및 제조하였다. 제조된 평판 수소 분리막은 300~500℃, 1~4 bar의 조건에서 혼합 가스(H2, N2), sweep 가스(Ar)를 이용하여 수소 투과 실험을 진행하였다. Ti14.2Zr66.4Ni12.6Cu6.8 합금막은 500℃, 4bar에서 최대 16.35 mL/cm2 min의 flux를 가지며, Ti17.3Zr62.7Ni20 합금막은 450℃, 4 bar에서 최대 10.28 mL/cm2 min의 flux를 가진다.

고출력 이산화탄소 레이저에 의한 TiC/Al 표면합금의 특성 (The properties of TiC/Al surface alloy using a high power $CO_2$-laser)

  • 고출력 이산화탄소 레이저빔에 의한 TiC/Al 표면합금의 특성을 연구하였다. 이 과정을 분석하기 위해 기본금속[Al]과 TiC 분말입자 사이의 물리적 특성을 측정하였다. 표면층의 크기와 모양, 광학적 흡수율 그리고 분말효율을 TiC/Al 행력에서 레이저출력의 함수로 측정하였다. TiC 분말을 사용한 경우와 사용하지 않은 경우의 기본금속내의 흡수율은 레이저 출력이 증하가면 감소하였다. 레이저출력이 2kW에서 4.5kW 범위로 증가되면 분말효율은 4%에서 12%까지 증가하였다. 그러나 TiC 분말입자는 용융된 알루미늄에는 용해되지 않는다. 이 결과 분말입자가 증가되면 쉽게 표면층을 투과하여 금속행렬속에 2개의 위상상태로 생성된다.

  • Effects of Ti addition and homogenizing heat treatment on the mechanical properties in Cu-Zn-Al alloy (high strength yellow brass) were investigated. Grain refinement was successfully achieved by Ti addition. The microstructure, which was composed of island or fine feather-like branched Ti compounds was changed to feather-like eutectic microstructure as the content of Ti increased. The highest hardness value was obtained for 0.5 wt.% Ti specimen and the second was Ti non-added specimen in as-cast condition. The highest tensile strength was obtained for 0.5 wt.% Ti specimen. Because of the presence of cast defects and worse castability, tensile strength decreased as the content of Ti increased. Elongation increased with increasing homogenizing time and temperature; remarkable increase was obtained for $400^{\circ}C$ homogenizing temperature in the 0.5 wt.% Ti specimen. For $500^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$ homhgenizing, temperature, high elongation was obtained in 2 and 4 wt.% Ti specimen.

  • Recently, various bulk metallic glasses (BMG's) haying good mechanical and chemical properties were developed. BMG's can easily be deformed in the supercooled liquid region, via viscous flow mechanism. In our previous work, we evaluated the deformation behavior and some other basic properties of Z $r_{41.2}$ $Ti_{13.8}$C $u_{12.5}$N $i_{10}$B $e_{22.5}$ alloy. In this study, we investigated the micro forming of Z $r_{41.2}$ $Ti_{13.8}$C $u_{12.5}$N $i_{10}$B $e_{22.5}$ alloy. The process condition was chosen based on the viscosity data from TMA, and superalloy and Si wafer with micro patterns on the surface were used as forming die. The alloy showed good replication of the patterns. However, some stripe patterns, resembling scratches, appeared on the deformed alloy surface. These scratches can be reduced or eliminated by polishing before forming.ing.ore forming.ing.

9mm 합금타이타늄 중간 선재 연구 (A Study on The Φ 9mm Titanium Alloy Wire)

  • Ti-3Al-2.5V 잉고트를 제작하고 직경 9mm 합금타이타늄 wire로 가공하여 수입소재와 비교하여 그 특성을 조사하였다. 잉고트는 산소함량이 0.11wt%이고 철 함량이 0.085wt%로서 ASTM Gr.9 규격을 만족하였다. 9mm 합금 타이타늄 wire 경도는 225-250Hv로 비슷한 결과를 얻었고, 인장강도는 수입소재가 804MPa이고, 국내 개발품은 734MPa이었다. 연신율은 수입소재가 12%이고 국내 개발품은 22%였다. 직경 400mm 잉고트에서 단조 및 다단 열간 압연공정을 통해 직경 9.0mm 타이타늄합금선재를 제작하는 새로운 제작공정을 개발하였다.

초탄성 거동을 고려한 NiTi 합금 튜브의 변형해석 (Finite Element Analysis of NiTi Alloy Tubes with the Superelastic Behavior)

  • NiTi alloy known as its shape memory effect also has superelastic characteristic, which makes it possible to be elastic under large deformation. Since the tensile strength of the alloy is very high and density is low compared to carbon steel, it can be applied to lightweight structural design. In order to design structures with shape memory alloy, finite element analysis is used and a constitutive algorithm based on Aurrichio's model is added to LS-DYNA as a user subroutine. Explicit time integration and shell element formulation are used to simulate thin-walled structures. The algorithm uses Drucker-Prager type loading condition to calculate martensite volume fraction during the transformation. The implemented algorithm is verified in uni-axial loading condition and martensite phase transformation can be detected well with the algorithm. In this study, as a energy absorbing structure, thin-walled tube is modeled with finite elements and the deformation behavior is studied. Simulation results has shown that the martensite transformation was generated in loading condition. After plastic deformation reached, the load decreases linearly without reverse martensite transformation.

THE INVESTIGATION OF PSEUDOELASTIC NITI WIRES FOR DAMPING USES

  • Some shape memory alloys like NiTi show noticeable high damping property in pseudoelastic range. Due to its instinct characteristics, a NiTi alloy is commonly used for passive damping applications, in which the energy may be dissipated by the conversion from mechanical to thermal energy. Previous researches found the NiTi wires own higher damping property than the bars; therefore the wire form is adopted in this study. A loss factor is introduced for measuring the damping property of the NiTi wires. The experimental observation shows the mechanical behaviors of NiTi wires are dependent on temperature, strain rate and strain amplitude. Moreover, it is found the first several decades of loading-unloading cycles can obviously influence the property of NiTi wires under the same working conditions.

치과주조용 Ti-20%Zr(-5%Cr)합금의 양극분극특성 (Anodic Polarization Characteristics in Ti-20%Zr(-5%Cr) Alloys for Dental Castings)

  • Ti-20%Zr(-5%Cr) alloys not containing harmful Al and V were newly designed in order to reveal their possibility for dental casting and melted in an arc melting and casting furnace under Ar atmosphere. The corrosion resistance was studied by anodic polarization test. From the observation of anodic polarization behavior, it was found that the corrosion resistance was markedly increased by the addition of Cr. The corrosion resistance of Ti-20%Zr-5%Cr alloy was superior to that in Ti-6%Al-4%V alloy but almost similar to that in CP Ti using in market place today.
