Electrochemical Properties of Ti-30Ta-(3~15)Nb Alloys Coated by HA/Ti Compound Layer (HA/Ti 복합층 코팅한 Ti-30Ta-(3~15)Nb 합금의 전기화학적 특성)

  • Electrochemical properties of Ti-30Ta-$(3{\sim}15)$Nb alloys coated by HA/Ti compound layer have been studied by various electrochemical method. Ti-30Ta binary alloys contained 3, 7, 10, and 15 wt% Nb contents were manufactured by the vacuum furnace system. The specimens were homogenized for 24 hrs at $1000^{\circ}C$. The samples were cut and polished for corrosion test and coating. It was coated with HA/Ti compound layer by magnetron sputter. The HA/Ti non-coated and coated morphology of Ti alloy were analyzed by x-ray diffractometer(XRD) and filed emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM). The corrosion behaviors were investigated using potentiodynamic method in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The homoginazed Ti-30Ta-$(3{\sim}15wt%$)Nb alloys showed the ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ phase, and ${\beta}$ phase peak was predominantly appeared with increasing Nb content. The microstructure of Ti alloy was transformed from needle-like structure to equiaxed structure as Nb content increased. HA/Ti composite surface showed uniform coating layer with 750 nm thickness. The corrosion resistance of HA/Ti composite coated Ti-alloys were higher than those of the non-coated samples in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Especially, corrosion resistance of Ti-Ta-Nb system increased as Nb content increased.

  • In the composition of $Pb(Mg_{0.15} W_{0.15})Ti_{0.35}-Zr_{0.35}O_3$ the effect of particle size on PbO vaporization were measured, . The initial step of discontinuous vaporization of unreated PbO during the calcining process was depended on the particle size. All additives $La_2O_3Nb_2O_5$ and $Al_2O_3$ inhibited the grain growth of the composition $Pb(Mg_{0.15} W_{0.15})Ti_{0.35}-Zr_{0.35}O_3$ +2wt% excess PbO. The dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the composition $Pb(Mg_{0.15} W_{0.15})Ti_{0.35}-Zr_{0.35}O_3$ were improved by the addition of 2wt% excess PbO and proper additive. The electromechanical planar coupling factor of 0.65 and mechnical quality factor of 390 could be obtained by adding 5wt% $Nb_2O_5$ to the composition 2wt% excess PbO+$Pb(Mg_{0.15} W_{0.15})Ti_{0.35}-Zr_{0.35}O_3$.

Green Generation and Investigation of Optical Properties of Amorphous BaTiO3 by Poling (폴링에 의한 비정질 BaTiO3 박막의 광학적 특성 조사 및 녹색광 발생)

  • BaTiO3 thin films was deposited on the slide glass by RF sputter. We have investigated the optical properties of BaTiO3 film after corona poling process. The transmission characteristics was very good over 80% in visible region and second order nonlinear optical coefficient depends on the poling conditions. The nonlinear optical coefficient of poled BaTiO3 films was about 1.15pm/V. The relaxation of second order nonlinear optical was remained around 60% of the initial value for a long time. In addition we have observed the green light generation from BaTiO3 films.

  • Ti-SBA-15 catalysts doped with lanthanide ion were synthesized using conventional hydrothermal method and they were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, DRS, $NH_3$-TPD and PL. We also examined the activity of these materials on the photocatalytic decomposition of methylene blue. La/Ti-SBA-15 samples with varying lanthanide ions doping maintained the mesoporous structure and the catalysts calcined at $500^{\circ}C$ for 6 h showed the highest crystallinity. With increasing the doping amount of lanthanide ion, the pore size and pore volume of La/Ti-SBA-15 materials decreased but the surface area increased. 1% La/Ti-SBA-15 catalysts showed the highest photocatalytic activity on the decomposition of methylene blue but the catalysts doped with more than 5% lanthanide ions showed lower activity compared to pure Ti-SBA-15 catalyst.

  • Perovskite structured barium titanate particles ($BaTiO_3$) platelets were synthesized by molten salt synthesis and topochemical microcrystal conversion. As the precursors of $BaTiO_3$, plate-like $BaBi_4Ti_4O_{15}$ particles were first synthesized by the reaction of $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$, $BaCO_3$, and $TiO_2$ at $1080^{\circ}C$ for 3 h in $BaCl_2$-KCl molten salt. After the topochemical reactions, layer-structured $BaBi_4Ti_4O_{15}$ particles transformed to the perovskite $BaTiO_3$ platelets. $BaTiO_3$ particles with thickness of approximately $0.5{\mu}m$ and a length of $10-15{\mu}m$ retained the morphology feature of the $BaBi_4Ti_4O_{15}$ precursor. For <001> $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-32.5PbTiO_3$ (PMNT)-5 wt % PbO piezoelectric ceramics textured with 5 vol % of $BaTiO_3$ templates, the Lotgering factor reached 0.82, and $d_{33}$ was 870 pC/N.

A Study on Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Properties of Ti-15Sn System Alloys for Medical Implants (생체용 Ti-15Sn계 합금의 내식성 및 기계적 성질에 관한 연구)

  • The mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of Ti alloys for medical implants have been investigated. Ti, Ti-15Sn-4Nb and Ti-15Sn-4Nb-2Zr alloys were melted in arc furnace and the corrosion resistance of Ti alloys was evaluated by anodic polarization test. The microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti alloys were analysed by optical microscope, hardness and tensile tester. The tensile strength of the pure-Ti improved by addition of Sn and Nb and Ti-15Sn-4Nb alloy showed better Rockwell hardness compared with pure Ti. However, there was no significant difference in corrosion resistance between thoseTi-alloys made of Pure-Ti and Ti-15Sn-4Nb alloy. The passive films on the Ti-15Sn-4Nb alloy in air atmosphere consisted of $TiO_2$, SnO and NbO as demonstrated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)

Corrosion Characteristics of Ti alloy for Removable Partial Denture (국소의치용 티타늄 합금의 부식 특성)

  • In this study, surface characteristics and corrosion behaviors have been investigated in addition to Zr elements on the low elastic modulus Ti-30Ta alloy. Low elastic modulus Ti-30Ta-xZr(x : 3, 7 and 15 wt %) alloys were prepared by arc melting and then heat treated at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 24 hrs in an argon atmosphere. Microstructures of the alloys were examined by field emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM) and X-ray diffractometer(XRD). Electrochemical experiments were performed using a conventional three-electrode configuration with a sample working electrode, a high density carbon counter electrode and a saturated calomel reference electrode. According to the result of polarization behavior in the Ti-30Ta-xZr alloys, the current density of homogenized Ti-30Ta-15Zr in the passive region was lower than the other alloys.

The corrosion behaviors were investigated using A.C. impedance test (PARSTAT 2273, USA) in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Ti-30Ta-($3{\sim}15\;wt%$)Nb alloys showed the ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ phase, and $\beta$ phase peak was predominantly appeared in the case of increasingly Nb contents. The microstructures of Ti alloy were transformed from needle-like structure to equiaxed structure as Nb content increased. From the analysis of coating surface, HA/Ti composite surface uniformed coating layer with 750 nm thickness. The growth directions of film were (211), (112), (300) and (202) for HA/Ti composite coating on the surface after heat treatment at $550^{\circ}C$, whereas, the growth direction of film was (110) for Ti coating. The polarization resistance ($R_p$) of HA/Ti composite coated Ti-alloys were higher than those of the Ti and HA coated samples in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Especially, corrosion resistance of Ti-Ta-Nb system increased as Nb content increased.

Variation of the Curie Temperature in $BaTiO_3$ Doping $Cd_5(PO_4)_3Cl$ ($BaTiO_3$에서 $Cd_5(PO_4)_3Cl$의 첨가로 인한 Curie 온도변화)

  • $(1-x)BaTiO_3+(x)Cd_5(PO_4)_3Cl$ ceramics were prepared by the conventional ceramic technique, i.e., solid state reaction at high temperature. The concentration of $Cd_5(PO_4)_3C$ was varied from 0.01 to 0.15 mole fraction. In order to study the phase transitions of our ceramics, the Raman scattering spectra were measured as functions of concentration x and temperature. It was found that the soluble limit of $Cd_5(PO_4)_3Cl$ in $BaTiO_3$ was the x=0.05 composition and $BaTiO_3$ phase disappeared above x=0.10. A new phase identified as $Ba_4Ti_3P_2O_{15}$ was detected in all samples of our compositions. The Curie temperature shifts up to $130^{\circ}C$ as the concentration x increases from zero to 0.05 and shift down to $95^{\circ}C$ as further increases to 0.08. For the increase of the Curie temperature, it is suggested that it can result from the inhibition of displacement of $Ti^{4+}$ in the distorted octahedron due to well dispersed $Ba_4Ti_3P_2O_{15}$ and $Cd_5(PO_4)_3Cl$ phase.

Effect of Grain Refinement on Tensile Properties of Ti-15-3 Alloy (Ti-15-3합금의 결정립 미세화가 인장 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Titanium alloys have been attractive due to a high ratio of strength to weight as well as good corrosion resistance. However, strengthening causes a decrease in ductility in Ti alloys, as is usual in other alloys. For enhanced strength without ductility reduction, grain refinement and tensile properties were investigated as functions of thickness reduction of cold rolling and annealing condition in Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al alloy with a ${\beta}$ single phase. The average grain size of the specimen, which was cold-rolled by 90% and annealed at 700$^{\circ}C$ for 5 min, was decreased to approximately 19 ${\mu}m$. The grain refinement of 63 μm to 19 ${\mu}m$ increased yield stress by 90 MPa without a significant decrease in total elongation. The Ti-15-3 alloy exhibited very low work hardening during tensile test at a crosshead speed of 2 mm/min. This result was discussed based on dynamic recovery associated with dislocation annihilation in grain boundaries.
