  • Carbon spheres (CS) were fabricated using glucose as a precursor in the hydrothermal method. Hollow TiO2 (H-TiO2) spheres with 200 nm, 500 nm, and 1,200 nm were synthesized by CS/TiO2 core-shell particles via a sol-gel and calcination method. H-TiO2 spheres with nano and micron sizes were characterized using FE-SEM, HR-TEM, and X-ray diffraction. The CIE color coordinate, solar reflectance, and heat shield temperatures of H-TiO2/polyacrylate (PA) composite film were investigated using a UV-Vis-NIR spectrometer and homemade heat insulation temperature measuring device. H-TiO2/PA composites exhibit excellent thermal insulation since the hollow structure filled with dry air has low thermal conductivity and near infrared light reflecting performance. The thermal insulation increased with increasing the hollow sphere (HS) size on H-TiO2/PA composites. The PA composite film mixed with H-TiO2 filled with 1200 nm HS reduced the heat shield temperature by 26 ℃ compared to that of the transparent glass counterpart.

  • The physicochemical properties of VOx/TiO2 catalysts with different TiO2 supports were analyzed, and SCR reactions were performed. VOx/TiO2 catalysts were prepared by impregnation using anatase TiO2, which was manufactured by Sigma Aldrich and prepared from TiOCl2 and titanium isopropoxide (TTIP) as a precursor. They are denoted as VS, VC, and VP. The specific surface area of the VS was 1/10 or less of that of the VC and VP, and the dispersibility of vanadium oxide was relatively low. As a result of XPS analysis, the ratio of adsorbed oxygen was higher in VS and VP with Ti3+ than in VC. In VC and VP, vanadium mainly existed in V4+ and V3+ states in relation to the dispersibility of vanadium oxide. The amount of adsorbed oxygen contributed more to NH3-SCR activity than vanadium oxide dispersibility below 250 ℃, while vanadium oxide dispersibility contributed more to activity beyond 300 ℃. The fast SCR activity in all three samples was the highest at NO2/NOx = 0.5, followed by VS < VC < VP samples. It was determined that the dispersibility of vanadium oxide had a significant effect on fast NH3-SCR activity.

  • In this study, nanocomposite layer composed of PMMA-co-MMA and $TiO_2$ was prepared by sol-gel process using TTIP as a precursor and was utilized as a gate insulator of OTFTs. The composite insulator provides the lower threshold voltage and the enhanced sub threshold slope of OTFTs mainly due to its higher dielectric constant than that of the bare PMMA-co-MMA. Consequently, it is demonstrated that the sol-gel process can open an interesting direction for the fabrication of high-performance OTFTs, and contribute for OTFTs to be feasible for real applications.

  • Numerical analysis is done to investigate which would be the most influencing process parameter in determining the uniformity of deposition thickness in TiN ICP-CVD(inductively coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition). Two configurations of ICP antenna are modeled; side and top planar. Side and top gas inlets are considered with each ICP antenna geometries. Precursor for TiN deposition was TDMAT(Tetrakis Diethyl Methyl Amido Titanium). Two step volume dissociation of TDMAT is used and absorption, desorption and deposition surface reactions are included. Most influencing factors are H and N concentration dissociated by electron impact collisions in plasma volume which depends on the relative positions of gas inlet and ICP antenna generated hot plasma region. Low surface recombination of N shows hollow type concentration, but H gives a bell type distribution. Film thickness at substrate edges is sensitive to gas flow rate and at high pressures getting more dependent on flow characteristics.

  • $Ba_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}TiO_3$(BST) thin films were deposited simultaneously on various electrodes and buffers by the sputtering technique. When the substrate temperature was varied, the BST thin film on each electrode showed good crystallinity above $550^{\circ}C$ as revealed by X-ray diffraction measurements. The surface morphology, determined by atomic force microscopy, indicated that the roughness of BST thin films on $RuO_2$was substrate dependent. However, BST thin films on Ru electrodes are smoother and showed no substrate dependence, probably because the precursor surface diffusion length was greater than the sinusoidal perturbations of the wavelength.

  • Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is essential for the fabrication of nanoscale electronic devices because it has excellent conformality, atomic scale thickness control, and large area uniformity. Metal thin films are one of the important material components for electronic devices as a conductor. As the size of electronic devices shrinks, the thickness of metal thin films is decreased down to few nanometers, and the metal films become non-continuous due to inherent island growth of metal below a critical thickness. So, fabrication of continuous metal thin films by ALD is fundamentally and practically important. Since ALD films are grown through self-saturated reactions between precursors on surface, initial growth characteristics significantly depend on the surface properties and the selection of precursors. In this work, we investigated ALD Pt on $TiO_2$ substrate by using trimethyl-methyl-cyclopentadienyl-Platinum ($MeCpPtMe_3$) precursor and $O_3$ reactant. By using $O_3$ instead of $O_2$, initial nucleation rate of ALD Pt was increased on $TiO_2$ surface, resulting in formation of continuous thin Pt films. Morphologies of ALD Pt on $TiO_2$ were characterized by using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS). Crystallinity of ALD Pt on $TiO_2$ correlated with its growth characteristics was analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD).

  • Pt has been widely used as catalyst for fuel cell and exhausted gas clean systems due to its high catalytic activity. Recently, there have been researches on fabricating composite materials of Pt as a method of reducing the amount of Pt due to its high price. One of the approaches for saving Pt used as catalyst is a core shell structure consisting of Pt layer on the core of the non-noble metal. In this study, the synthesis of Pt shell was conducted on the surface of $TiO_2$ particle, a non-noble material, by applying ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. Anatase $TiO_2$ particles with the average size of 20~30 nm were immersed in the ethanol dissolved with Pt precursor of $H_2PtCl_6{\cdot}6H_2O$ and exposed to UV irradiation with the wavelength of 365 nm. It was confirmed that Pt nano-particles were formed on the surface of $TiO_2$ particles by photochemical reduction of Pt ion from the solution. The morphology of the synthesized Pt@$TiO_2$ nano-composite was examined by TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy).
