  • This paper considers a scenario that more D2D users exist in the cell, they compete for cellular resources to increase their own data rates, which may cause transmission interference to cellular users (CU) and the unfairness of resource allocation. We design a resource allocation scheme for selfish D2D users assisted by cooperative relay technique which is used to further enhance the users' transmission rates, meanwhile guarantee the QoS requirement of the CUs. Two transmission modes are considered for D2D users: direct transmission mode and cooperative relay transmission mode, both of which reuses the cellular uplink frequency resources. To ensure the fairness of resource distribution, Nash bargaining theory is used to determine the transmission mode and solve the bandwidth allocation problem for D2D users choosing cooperative relay transmission mode, and coalition formation game theory is used to solve the uplink frequency sharing problem between D2D users and CUs through a new defined "Selfish order". Through theoretical analysis, we obtain the closed Nash bargaining solution under CUs' rate constraints, and prove the stability of the formatted coalition. Simulation results show that the proposed resource allocation approach achieves better performance on resource allocation fairness, with only little sacrifice on the system sum rates.

  • This paper deals with the energy transmission ratio of the elastic waves transmitting through a solid wall. Based on the displacement of the reflected and transmitted waves relative to the incident waves, the energy transmission ratio of the wave was obtained by multiplying the vibration velocity and stresses. Numerical calculation provided with the transmission ratio and refraction angle corresponding to the incidence angle, and it showed the mode conversion from the incident longitudinal wave to the transmitted transverse wave in particular incidence angle range. The paper established a procedure to find the incidence angle of the maximum energy transmission ratio and confirmed it by experiment.

  • We introduce a scheme with a maximized efficiency of detecting atoms passing through an optical standing-wave mode cavity. Consider a standing-wave optical cavity illuminated by a weak probe beam through one of its mirrors where the transmission through the other mirror is monitored by a photodetector. If an atom is put in the cavity, the atom-cavity coupling shifts the resonance frequency of the system via the so-called normal mode splitting, and thereby the transmission power will drop. In fact, this type of atom detection scheme has been used in recent single atom trap experiments In practice, however, the field in a standing-wave mode will have a geometrical structure having nodes and antinodes that when the atom traverses the cavity through one of the nodes, there will be no such effect of atom-field interaction. • In general, many IoT devices, including smart phones, use LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, and these communication modules generate a lot of energy consumption during periodic data transmission. This paper proposes a method of the data transmission mode change for improving energy efficiency in various communication environments that mobile devices may encounter. We propose an algorithm for setting the mode considering energy efficiency, data transmission performance and cost when the mobile device transmits data, and transmitting the data in an optimized manner according to the state of the mobile device. The proposed algorithm is implemented through experiments on energy efficiency for each communication module, and the scenario is used to verify how efficiently the proposed algorithm uses energy.

  • A planetary gear assembly is a key component to combine and/or split a power from the source. With a planetary gear assembly, a continuously variable unit extends its capacity by means of power bra nching mechanism. Power branching with one planetary gear assembly and one continuously variable unit is categorized into 12 basic types. Each type represents peculiar power transmitting characteristics. Additionally, a multi-mode (range) continuously variable transmission can be designed with accompanying clutches. A multi-mode continuously variable transmission changes the path through which the source power is transmitted. Each path has its own features, such as high efficiency. In this paper, some design principles are examined such as, criteria to guarantee the minimum power efficiency, and constraints to guarantee the smooth mode shift after discussing well-known features of multi-mode M mathematically.

  • In this paper, a dual-mode balanced filter with symmetric coupled composite right/left-handed transmission line is introduced. Unlike the other symmetric structure, this configuration has the ability to operate under both common- and differential-mode excitation. These properties are achievable through providing physical short circuit by means of ground vias at the center of each unit-cell along the symmetry plane of the structure. Because the CRLH unit-cells are operated under both common- and differential-mode excitation, we implemented a balanced filter using these properties. To validity these features, a five-cell four port coupled CRLH-TL is simulated, fabricated and measured and the obtained performances agree with the simulation results under both common- and differential-mode excitation.

  • The adaptive transmission techniques are efficient method for underwater acoustic communication to improve the system efficiency by varying transmission parameters according to channel conditions. In this paper, we construct four transmission modes with different data rates using the convolutional codes, which is freely set to size of information bits. On the receiver side, one critical component of adaptive system is to find which mode has best performance. In this paper, we proposed threshold detection algorithm to decide appropriate mode and applied turbo equalization method based on BCJR decoder in order to improve performance. We analyzed the performance of four modes based on threshold detection algorithm through the lake experiment.

  • A very efficient packet transmission scheme is needed in the radio environment where radio resource is insufficient as compared with the environment of the wired communication. In general, dual mode packet transmission scheme is used broadly. Packets are transmitted through the dedicated or common chamois according to a switching criterion. The general criteria are the length and generation frequency of packet, that is, large and frequent packets are transmitted using a dedicated channel and small and infrequent packets are transmitted using a common channel. The performance of dual mode packet transmission scheme is closely related to the switching criteria. However, it is very difficult to find the optimal switching point because that is not fixed but variable according to the environment such as traffic load, length of generated packets, and the number of channels. In this paper, a new scheme for the dual mode packet transmission scheme using a dynamic switching threshold is proposed where the switching threshold is not fixed but variable according to the network environment. The performance of the proposed method is analyzed using a simulation. From the simulation results, it is shown that the performance of the proposed scheme is not very influenced by the network environment unlike the conventional dual mode packet transmission scheme.

  • In order to utilize the licensed channel of cognitive radio (CR) when the primary user (PU) is detected busy, a benefit-exchange access mode based on cooperative communication is proposed to allow secondary user (SU) to access the busy channel through giving assistance to PU's communication in exchange for some transmission bandwidth. A holistic joint optimization problem is formulated to maximize the total throughput of CR system through jointly optimizing the parameters of cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS), including the local sensing time, the pre-configured sensing decision threshold, the forward power of cooperative communication, and the bandwidth and transmission power allocated to SUs in benefit-exchange access mode and traditional access mode, respectively. To solve this complex problem, a combination of bi-level optimization, interior-point optimization and exhaustive optimization is proposed. Simulation results show that, compared with the tradition throughput maximizing model (TTMM), the proposed holistic joint optimization model (HJOM) can make use of the channel effectively even if PU is busy, and the total throughput of CR obtains a considerable improvement by HJOM.
