In this paper, we introduce an efficient three-dimensional magnetic field mapping system for a Deflection Yoke (DY) in Cathode-Ray Tube (CRT). A three-axis Hall probe mounted in a small cylindrical bar and three stepping motors placed in a nonmagnetic frame are utilized for the mapping. Prior to the mapping starts, the inner contour of DY is measured by a laser sensor to make a look-up table for inner shape of DY. Three-axis magnetic fields are then digitized by a three-dimensional Hall probe. The results of the mapping can be transformed to various output formats such as multipole harmonics of magnetic fields. Field shape in one, two and three-dimensional spaces can also be displayed. In this paper, we present the features of this mapping device and show some analysis results.
Shape optimization was performed to obtain the precise shape of cutouts including the internal shape of cutouts in laminated composite plates by three dimensional modeling using solid element. The volume control of the growth-strain method was implemented and the distributed parameter chosen as Tsai-Hill fracture index for shape optimization. The volume control of the growth-strain method makes Tsai-Hill failure index at each element uniform in laminated composites under the initial volume. Then shapes optimized by Tsai-Hill failure index were compared with those of the initial shapes for the various load conditions and cutouts. The following conclusions were obtained in this study (1) It was found that growth-strain method was applied efficiently to shape optimization of three dimensional cutouts in a laminated composite plate, (2) The optimal shapes on the various load conditions and cutouts were obtained, (3) The maximum Tsai-Hill failure index was reduced up to 67% when shape optimization was performed under the initial volume by volume control of growth-strain method.
In this paper, method for mapping a three-dimensional shape into the two-dimensional plane will be introduced. This method is referred to geometric modelling and means a transformation between the flat sheet and final surface. The initial blank shape represents the original configuration of the final shape formed into three dimensional surface. The initial constant constant area mapping hypothesis was used in this paper. This technique will be applied to the basic data for an interactive computer design capable of dealing with typical stamping process, including deep parts and complex shapes.
This paper suggests a simple approach to determining the screw characteristics for a three0dimensional flow in a channel with a finite aspect ratio(ratio of a width to a depth, W/H) by introducing a Total Shape Factor($F_t$) to correct a two-dimensional flow analysis for a channel with an infinite aspect ratio. In the present study, the Total Shape Factor($F_t$) was defined as a ratio of a net flow rate obtained by the three-dimensional analysis to that by the two-dimensional analysis. In the proposed approach, the quantity, $ \frac{{\partial}F_t}{\partial(H/W)}$ turns out to be almost constant and to play an important role in understanding the effects of the flights. Therefore, $ \frac{{\partial}F_t}{\partial(H/W)}$ are extensively reported in this paper in terms of several dimensionless parameters. This simple approach with such database will be very useful for extruder designers to predict the screw characteristics.
Noise affects the accuracy of three-dimensional shape recovery. Its occurrence is unpredictable and depends on several mechanical, environmental, and other factors. When two-dimensional image sequences are obtained for shape from focus (SFF), mechanical vibration occurs in the translational stage, causing an error in the three-dimensional shape recovery. To address this issue, mechanical vibration is modeled using Newton's second law and the principle of the rack and pinion gear. Then, an optimal sampling step size considering the mechanical vibration is suggested through theoretical demonstration. Experiments conducted with real objects verify the effectiveness of the proposed sampling step size. In this paper, in a realistic environment with noise, the potential of obtaining more accurate three-dimensional reconstruction results of the objects is explored by acquiring the optimal sampling step size, which improves the sampling step size relative to those reported in a previous study performed under similar conditions.
Rapid Prototyping (RP) and Rapid Tooling (RT) were introduced to reduce time-to-market and cost by shortening not only the development phase but also the production phase of the manufacturing process. RP generally builds up a prototype layer by layer, rapidly generating a fully three-dimensional free form shape. RT enables the manufacture of production tools. The integration of RP and RT has the potential for rapid net shaping of thee-dimensional parts, which have geometrical complexity. In this study, net shaping techniques for making three-dimensional parts using RP and RT are described and a sample part are shown. A three-dimensional metal part is manufactured by a new RP process, Variable Lamination Manufacturing by using Expandable Polystyrene Foam (VLM-S), and its application to RT for making a clover punch. In addition, we discussed the technology fusion between metal forming md RP/RT.
A CAD program has recently been introduced that can be directly developed into a three-dimensional human body shape and made into a pattern. It is possible to fabricate a bra that reflects the volume and surface area of the breast; however, it still needs to be verified. This study investigates the average size and shape of 20 big-breasted women and designs a brassiere pattern for women with large breasts using a 3D Flattening function of OptiTex PDS v15.6. In addition, the study verifies the reliability of the proposed method compared to a conventional brassiere pattern. The study results are as follows. First, the three dimensional measurement values were smaller than the direct measurement dimensions when the three dimension measurement dimensions of the subjects were compared with the direct measurement dimensions, the replica measurement dimensions and the three dimensional measurement dimensions. Second, the 3D flattening pattern reflects the actual shape, length, and area of the actual breast when comparing a brassiere pattern using a 3D shape and pattern reflecting the direct measurement.
Shape optimization of a transonic axial compressor rotor operating at the design flow condition has been performed using three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis and three different surrogate models: i.e.., Response Surface Method(RSM), Kriging Method, and Radial Basis Function(RBF). Three design variables of blade sweep, lean and skew are introduced to optimize the three-dimensional stacking line of the rotor blade. The object function of the shape optimization is selected as an adiabatic efficiency. Throughout the shape optimization of the rotor blade, the adiabatic efficiency is increased for the three different surrogate models. Detailed flow characteristics at the optimal blade shape obtained by different optimization method are drawn and discussed.
Statement of problem. In Korea, the preliminary impression trays for dental and edentulous maxillae are manufactured on the base of the statistical value of Westerners. There had been less study on the dental and edentulous arches of Koreans. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to evaluate an average dental cast, preliminary impression trays, three-dimensional relation of dental and edentulous maxilla of Koreans Material and methods. The subjects for this study were 173 dental casts of maxilla (dental: 52, edentulous : 146) with ages $18\{\sim}60$ years old. Each of the master casts was measured 69 measuring points on the dental cast or maxilla, and 46 measuring points on the edentulous cast of maxilla with three-dimensional digital measuring machine. Each measuring points were analysed and were overlapped, that three dimensional dental graphic manufactured by CAD/CAM system. Results. 1. A standard of distribution to alveolar bone were width between left and right buccal border lines of the standard 3/4 line. The mean value of dental and edentulous casts were 67.27mm, 63.49mm respectively. 2. Morphological classification of dental casts were divided into three groups or V-shape, O-shape, U-shape, that proportion of distribution were 17%, 16%, 67%, respectively. Dimensional classification of the dental casts were divided into five groups of less than 63mm, 63 up to 65mm, 65 up to 67mm. 67 up to 69mm, more than 69mm, respectively. 3. Morphological classification of edentulous casts were divided into three groups or V-shape, O-shape, U-shape, that proportion of distribution were 18%, 17%, 65%, respectively Dimensional classification of the edentulous casts were divided into five groups of less than 57mm, 57 up to 61mm, 61 up to 65mm, 65 up to 69mm, more than 69mm, respectively. 4. Mean dental and edentulous cast of maxilla were overlapped, the proportion of bone resorption to alveolar bone is higher than that of palatal bone, its difference were higher anterior 2/4 area than posterior 3/4 area. Conclusion. It obtains information of preliminary impression trays for dental and edentulous maxilla of Koreans.
Dressmaking which is defined as the process of changing two-dimensional cloth into three-dime-nsional clothes needs a lot of joining parts. Particularly sleeve needs a more curved surface than other joining parts owing to shape of the top of arms. Easing is used to control the fullness along the seam-line to create the fullness curved shape of the sleeves and it plays an important role in increasing three-dimensional constru-ction power. unfortunately sufficient data regarding effective easing conditions to increase three-dimensional construction power of sleeve are not available. Therefore the author tried to investigate the effective easing conditions to increase three-dimensional construction power of sleeve by cap height. Easing construction power of sleeve by cap height. Easing contraction made by different angles on the sleeve cap curve line previous work were examined and the effective easing conditions according to the variation of angles were determined. This study contains the following objectives. Firstly to obtain the easing contraction ratio in sleeve according to the above easing conditions. Secondly to investigate the three-dimensional construction power or sleeve by the factors of easing contraction. Thirdly to determine for each sleeve the effective easing conditions on the basis of the calcuative easing contraction ratio in the sleeve patterns by cap heights.
