  • Transmittance and resistivity is investigated according to bending of ITO (indium tin oxide)film with four other multi-barrier film. Transmission data of ITO film with four ITO films showed there was about large 90% transmission above 550 nm wavelength at three multi-barrier structures. But, both -side hard coated structure showed relatively low 75% transmission above 550 nm wavelength. Also, resistivity change of four other multi-barrier film showed there was the lowest change at oneside hard coated structure. Subsequently, with result of resistivity change according to position, it was known the resistivity change of the center increased rapidly than that of the edge.

  • We extend our previous theoretical analysis of electronic and optical properties of p-type quantum well structures based on the two heavy- and light-hole system to include all the three valence bands. These theories are then used to clarify the origin of the normal incidence absorption and photo current at photon wavelengths of 2 - 3 ${\mu}m$, which was observed in addition to the absorption around 8 ${\mu}m$ by a recent experimental investigation with heavily doped p-type GaAs/AlGaAs multi-quantum well (MQW) structures. In the theoretical analysis, the Hartree and exchange-correlation many-body interactions are taken into account within one-particle local density approximation, and it is shown that normal incidence absorption occurs in two wavelength regions over the transition energy range higher than barrier height for p-type GaAs/AlGaAs superlattices with well doping of $2{\times}10^{19}\;cm^{-3}$; one region has broad absorption peaks with coefficients of about 5000 $cm^{-1}$ around 8 ${\mu}m$, and the other has two rather sharp peaks at 2.7 ${\mu}m$ and 3.4 ${\mu}m$ with 1800 $cm^{-1}$ and 1300 $cm^{-1}$, respectively. The result indicates that the theory explains the experimental observation well, as the theoretical and experimental results are in close agreement in general absorption features.

  • About functional parameters of a LED/UVLED (Light Emitting Diode/Ultra Violet LED), one of the most important parameters is the I-V characteristic. By researching factors affect to the I-V characteristic of uvled, we found that beside of the structure of the device itself, there is the influence of the electrode materials, electrode shapes, the process of wiring and packaging. In this work, we want to improve the performance of UVLED to find out the optimal mask design principles. The study is based on theoretical mathematical models, as well as the use of simulation software tool Comsol. From all results obtained, the team has improved mask design to manufacture electrodes for GaN-based UVLED. Electrode masks are designed by three softwares, which are Intellisuite, Klayout and AutoCad. Intellisuite masks would be used in fabrication simulation while Klayout and AutoCad are used to fabricate electrodes in experiments. As well as, we silmulated the structure of an uvled 355nm emission wavelength by TCAD software, in order to compare with uvled sample that has the same emission wavelength.

  • The nature and physical environments of SNRs are diverse, and for this reason, the understanding of the properties of nearby SNRs is useful in interpreting the emission from SNRs in remote galaxies where we cannot resolve them. In this regard, the LMC is a unique place to study SNRs due to its proximity, location, and composition compared with our galaxy. We carried out a multi-wavelength study of SNR N63A in the LMC, a young remnant of the SN explosion of one of the most massive (> 40 Msun) stars in a cluster. It is currently expanding within a large H II region formed by OB stars in the cluster and engulfing a molecular cloud (MC). As such, N63A is a prototypical SNR showing the impact of SN explosion on the cluster and its environment. Its morphology varies strongly across the wave bands, e.g. the size in X-ray is three times larger than in optical. However, the bright optical nebula would correspond to a MC swept up by the SNR, and consequently the interaction SNR-MC is limited to the central portion of the SNR. We aimed to study the overall structure of N63A, using near-IR imaging and spectroscopic observations to obtain the physical parameters of the atomic shocks, and also to understand how the SNR- MC interaction works and reveal the structure of the shocked cloud as well as the consequences of the impact of the SNR shock on the MC, comparing information obtained in different wavelengths.

  • We have studied the nonlinear evolution of a magnetized disk of isothermal gas, which is sustained by its self-gravity. Our objective is to investigate how the Jeans, Parker, and convective instabilities compete with each other in structuring/de-structuring large scale condensations in such disk. The Poisson equation for the self-gravity has been solved with a fourth-order accurate Fourier method along with the Green function, and the MHD part has been handled by an isothermal TVD code. When large wavelength perturbations are applied, the combined action of the Jeans and Parker instabilities suppresses the development of the convection and forms a dense core of prolate shape in the mid-plane. Peripheral structures around it are filamentary. The low density filaments connect the dense core to the diffuse upper region. On the other hand, when small wavelength perturbations are applied, the disk develops into an equilibrium state which is reminiscent of the Mouschovias's 2-D non-linear equilibrium of the classical Parker instability under an externally given gravity.

  • In wavelength-division-multiplexing(WDM) networks a link failure may cause the failure of several high-bit-rate optical channels, thereby leading to large data loss. Recently, various protection and restoration mechanisms have been proposed to efficiently deal with this problem in mesh networks. Among them, dedicated path protection(DPP) is a promising candidate because of its ultra-fast restoration time and robustness. In this work we investigate the issue of planning and optimization of WDM networks with DPP. Integer linear programming(ILP), in particular, is one of the most common exact method to solve the design optimization problem for protected WDM networks. Traditional ILP formalizations to solve this problem rely on the classical flow or route formulation approaches, but both these approaches suffer from a excessively high computational burden. In this paper, we present a variable-aggregation method that has the ability of significantly reducing the complexity of the traditional flow formulation. We compare also the computational burden of flow formulation with variable aggregation both with the classical flow and route formulations. The comparison is carried out by applying the three alternative methods to the optimization of two case-study networks.

  • The first generation stars in the universe are not observed as discrete objects by using current observational facilities, but their contributions are redshifted to the near infrared wavelength bands at present universe. Therefore, investigation of background radiation at near infrared is important for the study of the first stars. In this study, we present new observations of spatial fluctuations in sky brightness toward the north ecliptic pole using data from AKARI. Among pointed observation program of AKARI, we used two pointing surveys named Monitor field and NEP wide field at three wavelength bands 2.4, 3.2, and 4.1 ${\mu}m$. To obtain spatial fluctuations from observed images, first of all, we exclude pixels affected by resolved foreground objects and then obtain diffuse map which consists of diffused radiation only. Because the diffuse map contains not only cosmological components but also various foreground components, in order to detect cosmological components, we estimate the contributions of foreground components separately. The results of this study show that there remains excess spatial fluctuation that cannot be explained by known foreground sources. This work is based on observations with AKARI, a JAXA project with the participation of ESA.

  • CdS nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized in an aqueous phase in order to investigate their spectral behaviors as efficient fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) donors for various organic dye acceptors. Our prepared CdS NPs exhibiting strong and broad emission spectra between 480-520 nm were able to transfer energy in a wide wavelength region from green to red fluorescence dyes. Rhodamine 6G (Rh6G), rhodamine B (RhB), and sulforhodamine 101 acid (Texas red) were tested as acceptors of the energy transfer from the CdS NPs. The three dyes and synthesized CdS NPs exhibited good FRET behaviors as acceptors and donors, respectively. Energy transfers from the CdS NPs and organic Cy3 dye were compared to the same acceptor Texas red dye at different concentrations. Our prepared CdS NPs appeared to exhibit better FRET behaviors comparable to those of the Cy3 dye. These CdS NPs in an aqueous solution may be efficient FRET donors for various organic dyes in a wide wavelength range between green and red colors.
