  • We present a fast adaptive block matching algorithm using variable search area and subsampling to estimate motion vector more exactly. In the presented method, the block is classified into one of three motion categories: zero motion vector block, medium-motion bolck or high-motion block according to mean absolute difference of the block. By the simulation, the computation amount of the presented methoe comparable to three step search algorithm and new three step search algorithm. In the fast image sequence, the PSNR of our algorithm increased more than TSS and NTSS, because our algorithm estimated motion vector more accurately.

  • This paper proposes a fast motion estimation algorithm based on motion speed and multiple initial center points. The proposed method predicts initial search points by means of the spatio-temporal neighboring motion vectors. A dynamic search pattern based on motion speed and the predicted initial center points is proposed to quickly obtain the motion vector. Due to the usage of the spatio-temporal information and the dynamic search pattern, the proposed method greatly accelerates the search speed while maintaining a good predicted image quality. Experimental results show that the proposed method has a good predicted image quality in terms of PSNR with less search time as compared to the Full Search, New Three-Step Search, and Four-Step Search.

  • NTSS(New Three-Step Search Algorithm)는 대표적인 Fast BMA(Block Matching Algorithm)인 TSS(Three-Step Search Algorithm)에 중앙 편향적(Center-Biased) 특성을 고려하여 향상시킨 방법이다.

  • This paper proposes a fast motion estimation using an adaptive search region and a new three step search. The proposed method improved in the quality of motion compensation image as $0.43dB{\sim}2.19dB$, according as it predict motion of current block from motion vector of neigher blocks, and adaptively set up search region using predicted motion information. We show that the proposed method applied a new three step search pattern is able to fast motion estimation, according as it reduce computational complexity per blocks as $1.3%{\sim}1.9%$ than conventional method.

  • Asynchronous OFCDM(Orthogonal Frequency and Code Division Multiplexing) systems must have a cell search process necessarily unlike synch개nous systems. this process is hewn initial synchronization and a three-step cell search algorithm is performed for the initial synchronization in the following three steps: OFCDM symbol timing, i.e., Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) window timing is estimated employing guard interval (GI) correlation in the first step, then the frame timing and CSSC(Cell Specific Scrambling Code) group is detected by taking the correlation of the CPICH(Common Pilot Channel) based on the property yielded by shifting the CSSC phase in the frequency domain. Finally, the CSSC phase within the group is identified in the third step. This paper proposes a modification group code with two or three block of the conventional CPICH based cell search algorithm in the second step which offers MS(Mobile Station) complexity reductions. however, the effect of the reduction complexity leads to degradation of the performance therefore, look for combination to have the most minimum degradation. the proposed block type group code with suitable combinations is the nearly sane performance as conventional group code and has a complexity reduction that is to be compared and verified through the computer simulation.

  • The three-step search(TSS) algorithm, a simple and gradual motion estimation algorithm, has been widely used in some low bit-rate video compression. We propose a new fast block motion estimation algorithm using the characteristics of motion in search region. Most of motion vectors exist in the center region of search area, so the notion in that region is examined more closely than TSS in this paper. Also in a search step, motion vector is estimated in the local area which is not overlapped with the search area in previous step, considering the all possible direction of motion. Therefore, we get the better motion estimation and reduce computational time in compared with the conventional methods.

  • Among the previous searching methods, there are the typical methods such as full search and three-step search, etc. Block motion estimation using exhaustive search is too computationally intensive. To apply in practice, recently proposed fast algorithms have been focused on reducing the computational complexity by limiting the number of searching points. According to the reduction of searching points, the quality performance is aggravated in those algorithms. In this paper, We present a fast and efficient search algorithm for block motion estimation that produces better quality performance and less computational time compared with a three-step search (TSS). Previously the proposed Two Step Search Algorithm (TWSS) by Fang-Hsuan Cheng and San-Nan sun is based on the ideas of dithering pattern for pixel decimation using a part of a block pixels for BMA (Block Matching Algorithm) and multi-candidate to compensate quality performance with several locations. This method has good quality performance at slow moving images, but has bad quality performance at fast moving images. To resolve this problem, the proposed algorithm in this paper considers spatial and temporal correlation using neighbor and previous blocks to improve quality performance. This performance uses neighbor motion vectors and previous motion vectors in addition, thus it needs more searching points. To compensate this weakness, the proposed algorithm uses statistical character of dithering matrix. The proposed algorithm is superior to TWSS in quality performance and has similar computational complexity

  • A new three step hierarchical search algorithm for motion estimation is proposed. The proposed algorithm exploits the motion correlation of spatially neighboring blocks and the motion continuity of temporally neighboring blocks to alleviate the local minimum problem in the first step of the three step hierarchical search algorithm (3SHS). Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves significant improvements in both estimation accuracy and performance reliability compared with the existing fast block matching algorithm including 3SHS, while maintaining almost the same computational complexity as 3SHS. The proposed scheme also possesses the regularity and simplicity of hardware-oriented features.

  • The motion comensated video coding technology is very improtant to compress video signal since it reduces the temporal redundancies in successive frames. But the computational complexity of the motion estimation(ME) is too enormous to use in the area of real-time and/or resolution video processing applications. To reduce the complexity of ME, fast search algoritjms and hardware design methods are developed. Especially, the three step search(TSS) is well known method which shows stable performance in various video sequences. And other variations of TSS are developed to get better performance andto reduce the complexity. In this paepr, we present the modified TSS using neighboring block's motion vectors to determine first step motion vector in TSS. The presented method uses the correlation of the adjacent blocks with same motion field. The simualtion resutls show that it has a good MAE performance and low complexity comparing with original TSS.
