  • In this paper, we present a design and implementation of three dimensional pointing device using Inertial Navigation System(INS) that acquires coordinates and location information without environmental dependancy. The INS measures coordinates based on the data from gyroscope and accelerometer and corrects the measured data from accelerometer using Kalman-Filter. In order to implement the idea of three dimensional pointing device, we choose a three dimensional Space-recognition mouse and use RFIC wireless communication to send a measured data to receiver for printing out the coordinate on display equipment. Based on INS and Kalman-Filter theoretical knowledge, we design and implement a three dimensional pointing device and verified the usability as an input device that can capture a human's move. also, we describe the applicability of this device in ubiquitous computing environment.

  • The reliability of the data means the overall consistency of the measurement results. Methods for evaluating reliability have been continuously studied because it affects the results of the statistical analysis. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient or intraclass correlation coefficient is used for reliability evaluation; however, these measures cannot be applied to data consisting of three-dimensional coordinates to represent an object. In this study, we propose a measure to evaluate the reliability of three dimensional shapes based on statistical shape analysis that is made possible by extracting the shape information from the measured three dimensional coordinates and decomposing the shape variation.

  • This paper presents a methodology for automatic feature extraction used in a vision system of FMC (flexible Manufacturing Cell). To implement a robot vision system, it is important to make a feature database for object recognition, location, and orientation. For industrial applications, it is necessary to extract feature information from CAD database since the detail information about an object is described in CAD data. Generally, CAD description is three dimensional information but single image data from camera is two dimensional information. Because of this dimensiional difference, many problems arise. Our primary concern in this study is to convert three dimensional data into two dimensional data and to extract some features from them and store them into the feature database. Secondary concern is to construct feature selecting system that can be used for part recognition in a given set of objects.

  • Twodimensional warranty data can be modelled using two different approaches: twodimensional point process and onedimensional point process with usage as a function of age. The first approach has three different models. First of all, bivariate model is appealing but is not appropriate for explaining warranty claims. Next, the rest of the two models (marked point process, and counting and matching on both directions independently) are more appropriate for explaining warranty claims. However, the second one (counting and matching on both directions independently) assumes that the two variables (variables representing the twodimensions) are independent. Last of all, onedimensional point process with usage as a function of age is also promising to explain the twodimensional warranty claims. But the models or variations of them need more investigation to be applicable to real warranty claim data.

  • A numerical study has been carried out for two- and three-dimensional buoyant turbulent flow in a stairwell model. The Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes and energy equations are solved with the authors'own computer program. Two models by the Boussinesq approximation and the density-gradient form are used for buoyancy terms in the governing equations. Two- and three-dimensional predictions of the velocity and temperature fields are presented and the results are compared with experimental data. Comparisons have also been made in detail with two-dimensional predictions. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional simulations have predicted the overall features of the flow satisfactorily. A better agreement with experiment is achieved with three-dimensional simulations.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest computer assisted neck-base's landmark identification algorithms and measurement extraction methods from three-dimensional human scan data. So we developed the algorithms for automatic identification of landmarks related to the neck-base types. The subjects were 58 women $18{\sim}24$ years of age. Their body were measured directly and indirectly by using camera and three-dimensional body scanner. They were measured during the months of October in 2001. Based on the characters of classified neck-base types, algorithms for the automatic identification of landmarks and methods of automatic measurement are developed. The three-dimensional automatic measuring program is made by $C^{++}$ language. Using this program, 4 landmarks are identified and 6 items are measured. In the verifying the precision of automatic measurement, the height measurements(cervicale, side neck point, front neck point) were relatively accurate, but neck-base width measurement was measured wide.

  • In this study, three-dimensional block generation program was developed using the discontinuities input data for three-dimensional mechanical and hydro-mechanical analysis. Shi's two dimensional theory and program was extended to those of three-dimension and the deformations of blocks were calculated. The two-dimensional hyro-mechanical theory of DDA was also extended to three-dimensional theory and coupling deformation of the underground cavern was analyzed considering discontinuities.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the shape of gathered skirts using a three-dimensional measurement system. And in this experiment, I try to accumulate three-dimensional data of wearing model and to figure out analyzing method made by shape of clothes. The experimental design consists of two factorial designs. I set up three different kinds of fabrics, ratio of gathers. Therefore nine samples were made. The instrument and tools for three-dimensional measurement was whole body 3D scanner. Analysis program used in experiment is RapidForm 2004 PP1 and Pattern Design 2000. Data analysis utilizes SPSS WIN 10.0 Package. T-test to effect an inspection of evidence, there was difference about measurement times. One-way ANOVA to analysis effect of gather made by gathering conditions. The following results were obtained; 1. As a result of inspecting an error several times using a three-dimension measurement system, convinced data was obtained. 2. At front, distribution of gap amount was larger than back. And as ratio of gathers increased, distribution of gap amount showed regularly. 3. After analyzing horizontal sectional figure of skirts, as a height of skirt changed from waist to the bottom of skirts, the results showed as follows. While section width, section thickness, node width, node depth increased, node count decreased. 4. With the horizontal section levels of gather skirt, the silhouette on middle hip section was similar with the silhouette of body line. And as ratio of gathers around hip section increased, nodes showed regularly. At the bottom of skirts showed different nodes by different gathering condition.

  • Mixtures of factor analyzers(MFA) is useful to model the distribution of high-dimensional data on much lower dimensional space where the number of observations is very large relative to their dimension. Mixtures of common factor analyzers(MCFA) can reduce further the number of parameters in the specification of the component covariance matrices as the number of classes is not small. Moreover, the factor scores of MCFA can be displayed in low-dimensional space to distinguish the groups. We propose the factor scores of MCFA as new low-dimensional features for classification of high-dimensional data. Compared with the conventional dimension reduction methods such as principal component analysis(PCA) and canonical covariates(CV), the proposed factor score was shown to have higher correct classification rates for three real data sets when it was used in parametric and nonparametric classifiers.

  • The flow simulations around ducted-prop of tilt-duct aircraft were conducted in this study. For the investigation of aerodynamic characteristics of various configurations of duct, the axisymmetric flow calculation method combined with actuator disk model for prop were used. The rapid two-dimensional calculation and fast grid generation enable aerodynamic analysis for various duct configurations in a very short time and anticipated to active role in optimal configuration design of duct exposed to various flight modes. For the case of angle of attack or tilt angle, the three dimensional flow calculation is conducted using the three dimensional grid simply generated by just revolving the axisymmetric grid around center axis. Through the three dimensional calculation around duct, the aerodynamic effectiveness of duct as a lifting surface in airplane mode was investigated. The flow calculations around the control vane (wing) installed in the rear section of duct were conducted The aerodynamic data of wing were compared with the data of the ducts to evaluate the aerodynamic effectiveness of ducts.
