This paper presents the new design and validation process of the linear transverse flux machine of the stelzer machine for hybrid vehicle application. A linear transverse flux machine is a novel electric machine that has higher force density and power than conventional electric machine. The process concentrates on 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional analysis using equivalent magnetic circuit method considering leakage elements and it is verified by finite element analysis. Besides the force characteristics of all axis of each direction are analyzed. The study is considered by dividing the transverse flux electric excited type and the transverse flux permanent magnet excited type. Additionally three-dimensional analysis in this machine is accomplished due to asymmetric structure with another three axes. Finally, it suggests the new design and validation process of linear transverse flux machine for stelzer machine.
Although Equvalent Magnetic Circuit (EMC) method. Using lumped parameter and numerical analysis method are widely used for electric machine analysis. these are neither always accurate enough nor sometimes available to easily use. Moreover three dimensional finite element method (3D-FEM) is inherently unsuitable for electric machine performance evaluation due to its poor computational efficiency, such as too long calculation time and difficulty in modeling for analysis. In this paper, Nonlinear Equivalent Magnetic Circuit (NEMC) method in combination with 2D-FEM is proposed to analyze the electric machine requiring 3D-FEM, and this method applys to torque evaluation for rotary actuator of Electro Magnetic Electronic Controller Power Steering (EM-ECPS).

This paper presents a method to estimate an effective length of a 1000-kVA superconducting generator using three-dimensional FE analysis. Flux linkage of stator coil and the induced voltage are calculated with FEM program and Faraday's law. An effective length of the stator coil is estimated using the calculated voltage and geometric configurationn of the machine. In order to verify the estimation method, 30-kVA superconducting generator is built and tested. The test result agrees reasonably well with the estimation.

The purpose of this study is to develope the prediction method of liquation crack initiation in HAZ of laser weldment. Thermal two dimensional strain analyses were performed by FEM for bead-on-plate welding in order to obtain the plastic strain at elevated temperature in HAZ of the laser weldment. From these results, it became clear that the plastic strain at elevated temperature affected liquation crack initiation in HAZ, and it could be proposed that the critical strain, which controlled liquation crack initiation, existed. Moreover, an attempt was made to develop thermal and dynamic three dimensional strain analysis method for the laser weldment in order to obtain the plastic strain at elevated temperature in HAZ of the laser weldment in more detail and precisely.
A finite element method is employed fer a flow analysis of the melt spinning process of a non-circular fiber, a PET(polyethylene terephthalate) filament. The flow field is divided into two regions of die channel and spin-line. A two dimensional analysis is used for the flow within the die channel and a three dimensional analysis fur the flow along the spin-line. The Newtonian fluid is assumed for the PET melt and material properties are considered to be constant except for the viscosity. Effects of gravitation, air drag force, and surface tension are neglected. Although the spin-line length is 4.5 m only five millimeters from the spinneret are evaluated as the domain of the analysis. Isothermal and non-isothermal cases are studied fer the flow within the die channel. The relationship between the mass flow rate and the pressure gradient is presented for the two cases. Three dimensional flow along the spin-line is obtained by assuming isothermal conditions. It is shown that changes in velocity and cross-sectional shape occur mostly in the region of 1mm from the die exit.
Transient thermal analysis of a three-dimensional axisymmetric automotive disk brake is presented in this paper. Temperature fields are obtained using a hybrid FFT-FEM scheme that combines Fourier transform techniques and finite element method. The use of a fast Fourier transform algorithm can avoid singularity problems and lead to inexpensive computing time. The transformed problem is solved with finite element scheme for each frequency domain. Inverse transforms are then performed for time domain solution. Numerical examples are presented for validation tests. Comparisons with analytical results show very good agreement. Also, a 3-D simulation, based upon an automotive brake disk model is performed.
In this study, three-dimensional heat flow in laser beam welding for deep penetration was analyzed by using F.E.M common code, and then the results were compared with the experimental data. The models for analysis are full penetration welds and are made at three different laser powers (6, 9.9, 4.5 kW) with two different welding speeds (5.8mm/s, 5mm/s). The characteristics of thermal absorption by the workpiece during deep penetration laser welding can be represented by a combination of line heat source through the workpiece and distributed heat source at the top surface due to the plasma plume above the top surface. This gives an insight into the way in which the beam interacts with the material being welded. The analyses performed with the combined heat source models show comparatively good agreement between the experimental and calculated melt temperature isotherm, i.e, the fusion zone boundary. The results are used to explain the "nail head" appearance of fusion zone, which is quite common in laser beam welds.eam welds.
This paper describes an analysis method based on the experimental parameter for the 0.9kW starter motor of vehicle with permanent magnet and pole core, and analyzed the influence by the effect of pole core of starting motor by using the 2D-FEM analysis technique to reflect the structural characteristic of 3D. A starter motor consists mainly of armature, yoke and permanent magnet with the pole core. Additionally, there is different the axial length of each part. Therefore, the effective of analysis method is needed to improve the characteristic of it. This paper approached the 2D-FEM analysis estimated by the 3D-EMCN(Three Dimensional Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network) instead of the 3D-FEM analysis to minimize parameters. As a result, this paper is proposed the validity of 2D-FEM analysis and obtained reasonable results for improving a performance.
Film bulk acoustic resonator used in microwave region can be analyzed by one-dimension Mason's model and one-dimensional numerical method, but it had several constraints to analyze effects of area variation, electrode-area variation, electrode-shape variation and spurious characteristics. To overcome these constraints film bulk acoustic resonator must be analysed by three dimensional numerical method. So, in this paper three dimensional finite element method was used to analyze several moles of resonance and was compared with the one dimension Mason's model analysis and analytic solution.
We study the fracture behavior of the lumbar No.4 and No.5 vertebra subjected to posteroanterior (PA) forces, a three dimensional finite element method (FEM). The lumbar spine was modeled 3-dimensionally using commercial software based on the principle of convert stacked two dimensional CT scan images into three dimensional shapes. Determination of the boundary conditions corresponding to actual surgical conditions was not easy, so that the simplified spine beam analyses were performed. The results were used in three dimensional finite element (FE) analysis. This FE analysis, indicates that the fracture loads of the lumbar No.4 and No.5 vertebra are respectively 1550 N and 1500 N. These fracture loads are for static loading, but in actual conditions the load on the lumbar spine varies dynamically. We found that the fracture load of lumbar No.4 vertebra is larger than that of lumbar No.5 vertebra, as a result of the total stress difference by the moment.
