한반도 겨울철 강수 유형에 따른 전지구 수치모델(GRIMs) 예측성능 검증 (Evaluation of Predictability of Global/Regional Integrated Model System (GRIMs) for the Winter Precipitation Systems over Korea)

  • This paper evaluates precipitation forecast skill of Global/Regional Integrated Model system (GRIMs) over South Korea in a boreal winter from December 2013 to February 2014. Three types of precipitation are classified based on development mechanism: 1) convection type (C type), 2) low pressure type (L type), and 3) orographic type (O type), in which their frequencies are 44.4%, 25.0%, and 30.6%, respectively. It appears that the model significantly overestimates precipitation occurrence (0.1 mm d-1) for all types of winter precipitation. Objective measured skill scores of GRIMs are comparably high for L type and O type. Except for precipitation occurrence, the model shows high predictability for L type precipitation with the most unbiased prediction. It is noted that Equitable Threat Score (ETS) is inappropriate for measuring rare events due to its high dependency on the sample size, as in the case of Critical Success Index as well. The Symmetric Extreme Dependency Score (SEDS) demonstrates less sensitivity on the number of samples. Thus, SEDS is used for the evaluation of prediction skill to supplement the limit of ETS. The evaluation via SEDS shows that the prediction skill score for L type is the highest in the range of 5.0, 10.0 mm d-1 and the score for O type is the highest in the range of 1.0, 20.0 mm d-1. C type has the lowest scores in overall range. The difference in precipitation forecast skill by precipitation type can be explained by the spatial distribution and intensity of precipitation in each representative case.

  • 최근 북한 소형무인기에 의한 수도권 지역의 도발은 대한민국 사회에 큰 충격을 주었고 이에 대한 대응으로 대드론체계의 필요성에 대해 많은 관심과 주목을 받고 있다. 대한민국 정부는 국가중요시설에 대한 드론 위협 대비태세를 점검하고 있다. 그러나 현재 대드론체계에 대한 평가 기준이나 절차가 구체화 되어 있지 않아 체계적이고 종합적인 분석은 제한적인 상황이다. 본 연구는 국가중요시설을 대상으로 한 대드론체계 평가 기준을 마련하여 올바른 현상진단을 위한 틀을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해, 도전·기회요소를 상쇄·활용할 수 있는 접근방법 중 하나인 군사혁신 사고과정 기법을 적용하여 대드론체계에 대한 종합적인 평가기준을 도출했다. 제시한 평가기준은 북한드론 위협분석, 탐지·추적·무력화체계 융복합, 동시통합 운용, 전문인력 편성·운용 등 4개 분야로 구분하였고 각 분야를 세부 평가항목을 구체화했다.

In vitro Evaluation of New Acetylcholinesterase Reactivators as Casual Antidotes against Tabun and Cyclosarin

  • Nerve agents (sarin, tabun, soman and VX) are class of military important substances able to cause many severe intoxications during few minutes. Currently, the threat of misuse of these agents is daily discussed. Unfortunately, there is no single antidote able to treat intoxication caused by all of these agents. Owing to this fact, new generation of antidotes, especially acetylcholinesterase (AChE; EC 3.1.1.7) reactivators, is still developed. In this study, we have tested four newly developed AChE reactivators: 1-(4-hydroxyiminomethylpyridinium)- 5-(4-carbamoylpyridinium)-3-oxa-pentane dibromide (1), 1-(3-hydroxyiminomethylpyridinium)-5-(4-carbamoylpyridinium)-3-oxa-pentane dibromide (2), 1,5-bis(2-hydroxyiminomethylpyridinium)-3-oxa-pentane dichloride (3) and 1,5-bis(4-hydroxyiminomethylpyridinium)-3-oxa-pentane dibromide (4) for their potency to reactivate in vitro tabun and cyclosarin-inhibited AChE. Their reactivation efficacy was compared with currently the most promising oxime HI-6 (1-(2-hydroxyiminomethylpyridinium)-3-(4-carbamoylpyridinium)-2-oxa-propane dichloride). According to obtained results, two AChE reactivators 1 and 4 were able to reactivate tabun-inhibited AChE. On the contrary, there was no better AChE reactivator than HI-6 able to reactivate cyclosarin-inhibited AChE.

인용문헌에 나타난 웹 자원의 접근성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Accessibility of Web Resources via Citation Analysis)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 인용문헌에 나타난 웹 자원의 접근성과 그 변화추이를 분석하여 인용문헌에 수록된 웹 정보원의 가치와 유용성을 평가하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 정보관리학회지에 수록된 웹 자원 1,377건을 추출하여 국내, 국외별 웹 자원의 접근성과 도메인과 파일유형의 웹 자원 접근성 및 접근성 변화추이를 분석하였다. 그 결과 국내 웹 자원은 접근성비율이 40%, 국외 웹 자원은 50%, 도메인 유형은 58%, 파일 유형은 44%로 각각 조사되었다. 또한 인용시간 경과에 따른 웹 자원의 접근성은 감소하는 경향을 보였으며, 인용된지 1년 정도가 되면 웹 자원의 23%정도가 접근할 수 없는 것으로 밝혀져 웹 자원의 유용성은 매우 낮은 것으로 평가되었다.

In Vitro Evaluation of Antimicrobial Activity of Lactic Acid Bacteria against Clostridium difficile

  • Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) has become a significant threat to public health. Although broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy is the primary treatment option for CDI, its use has evident limitations. Probiotics have been proved to be effective in the treatment of CDI and are a promising therapeutic option for CDI. In this study, 4 strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), namely, Lactobacillus rhamnosus (LR5), Lactococcuslactis (SL3), Bifidobacterium breve (BR3), and Bifidobacterium lactis (BL3) were evaluated for their anti-C. difficile activity. Co-culture incubation of C. difficile ($10^6$ and $10^{10}$ CFU/ml) with each strain of LAB indicated that SL3 possessed the highest antimicrobial activity over a 24-hr period. The cell-free supernatants of the 4 LAB strains exhibited $MIC_{50}$ values between 0.424 mg/ml (SL3) and 1.318 (BR3) mg/ml. These results may provide a basis for alternative therapies for the treatment of C. difficile-associated gut disorders.

갈뫼중학교 빗물이용시설에서의 저장 빗물수질평가 (Evaluation of Stored Rainwater Quality at Galmoe Middle School Rainwater Harvesting System)

  • One of the major obstacles confronted in promoting the rainwater harvesting is the concerns of acid rain and heavy metals. Although there are many data concerning the quality of rainwater precipitation for the study of acid rain, the study on the quality of stored rainwater has been limited. In this study, we monitored the quality of stored rainwater at Galmoe middle school, where a rainwater harvesting system is installed and in use for more than two years. We measured water quality parameters such as pH, Electro Conductivity(EC), Dissolved Oxygen(DO), and some metals (aluminium (Al), chromium(Cr), manganese(Mn), zinc(Zn), copper(Cu), arsenic(As), cadmium(Cd), lead(Pb)). The monitoring period was during one year from September 9th 2003 to August 5th 2004. It was observed that the average pH of stored rainwater is neutral. DO is similar to tap water and EC is lower than tap water. Metal Concentrations are within the concentration specified in Drinking Water Quality Standard. Overall, the stored rainwater quality is good enough for sundry use and there's no threat of acid rain and air pollution, if the rainwater harvesting system is well designed and maintained.

노후된 공작기계의 재제조에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Remanufacturing of Used Machine Tools)

  • Continuous industrial development has led to a better quality of life for everyone, even further accelerating industrial growth. Industrial development, however, has also caused environmental degradation, which is posing a serious threat to humanity. It has also encouraged the indiscriminate use of limited resources, causing resource depletion. Efficient resource management based on resource circulation is critical to saving resources. Resource circulation methods are as follows: reducing the use of resources in the manufacturing process, recycling used or reprocessed products and reusing used resources without being reprocessed, remanufacturing with end-of-life products with disassembled parts. Furthermore, remanufacturing process including cleaning, inspection, repairing, and reassembling facilitate performance level as well as new typical products. It is noteworthy that the remanufacturing of machine tools can significantly save resources because their structural parts are substantially large in size. Machine tools have served as a foundation for the manufacturing industry, which has driven Korea's industrial development. Nevertheless, a few research has been reported for remanufacturing technology with used machine tools. Relevant research of developing a remanufacturing process chart and method is prerequisite for saving the resource and environments.

Biodiversity and Conservation of Indian Sheep Genetic Resources - An Overview -

  • Indian subcontinent is a rich source of diverse ovine germplasm, and only very few countries have such a large number of breeds with wide genetic diversity. This vast ovine biodiversity in India is being eroded rapidly and more than 50% of sheep breeds are currently under threat. It is noteworthy that the characterization of Indian sheep breeds was last done in the first half of the century since then no recent estimates are available and surveys in majority of the regions/breeds are far from complete. Starting in 1985 National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR), Karnal, India, therefore, initiated activities aimed at determining the status and compiling information on indigenous farm animals including sheep. This report represents attempts made to date on the basis of field/literature surveys and additional activities on molecular characterization to ascertain their status including distribution, population changes, breed diversities and risk status. The need, mode and mechanisms of conservation are also described. Involvement of several agencies for evaluation, improvement, conservation programmes and recommendations made for effective characterization and conservation of sheep biodiversity are highlighted. This publication would promote action particularly at national level to improve the information base on domestic Indian breeds of sheep and provide input into national domestic sheep diversity conservation policy decisions.

  • Diffuse pollution has been considering as a major source of the quality deterioration of water resources. The establishment of riparian vegetation strips of buffers along those areas of water bodies is used to reduce the threat of diffuse pollution. Remote sensing offers a means by which critical areas could be identified, so that subsequent action toward the establishment of riparian zones can be taken. Even though the principal purpose of this research comes from the feasibility of the imagery of KOMPSAT-2 satellite, Landsat TM satellite data, which has 7 bands, are used to characterize the land cover for the study area on the behalf of KOMPSAT-2. This investigation focuses on the assessment of the existing riparian buffer zones for a portion of the upper Geum river watershed from the viewpoint of pollution mitigation by riparian vegetation strip establishment. Through comparing the delineation of riparian buffer zones developed with the existing zones established by the government, we can find the critical distortion points of the existing riparian buffer zone.

복합 공간데이터베이스 적용을 통한 해안 시설영역 지진 유발 지반재해의 가시적 평가 (Visible Assessment of Earthquake-induced Geotechnical Hazards by Adopting Integrated Geospatial Database in Coastal Facility Areas)

  • Earthquake event keeps increasing every year, and the recent cases of earthquake hazards invoke the necessity of seismic study in Korea, as geotechnical earthquake hazards, such as strong ground motion, liquefaction and landslides, are a significant threat to structures in industrial hub areas including coastal facilities. In this study, systemized framework of integrated assessment of earthquake-induced geotechnical hazard was established using advanced geospatial database. And a visible simulation of the framework was specifically conducted at two coastal facility areas in Incheon. First, the geospatial-grid information in the 3D domain were constructed with geostatistical interpolation method composed of multiple geospatial coverage mapping and 3D integration of geo-layer construction considering spatial outliers and geotechnical uncertainty. Second, the behavior of site-specific seismic responses were assessed by incorporating the depth to bedrock, mean shear wave velocity of the upper 30 m, and characteristic site period based on the geospatial-grid. Third, the normalized correlations between rock-outcrop accelerations and the maximum accelerations of each grid were determined considering the site-specific seismic response characteristics. Fourth, the potential damage due to liquefaction was estimated by combining the geospatial-grid and accelerations correlation grid based on the simplified liquefaction potential index evaluation method.
