Lipiodol-anticancer suspensions containing fluorouracil, tegafur, mitomycin C, methotrexate, or adriamycin were prepared by Shinohara method using aluminum monostearate as a dispersing stabilizer. Lipiodol-suspension showed thixotropic property when the concentration of aluminum monostearate was above 2%. Observed thixotropic area which reflects the extent of thixotropic breakdown indicated that the thixotropic property of Lipiodol-suspensions maintained for six weeks in a refrigerator$(4^{\circ}C)$. Lipiodol-anticancer suspensions containing 2% aluminum monostearate maintained a more stable suspension system compared with simple mixtures and Lipiodol-anticancer suspensions without aluminum monostearate. As the concentration of aluminum monostearate increased, the drug release from Lipiodol-anticancer suspensions was more retarded.

Semi-solid forming process has some advantages such as successful manufacturing of high quality components with less inner defects suitable for less machining high productivity and energy-saving effect. the thixotropic behavior(solid-like in the unperturbed state and liquid-like during shearing) has been the basis for the semi-solid forming process. The main focus of this article is the investigation of the effect of T6 heat treatment and alloying elements on the mechanical properties in the semi-solid formed products using thixotropic hypoeutectic (A357 and ALTHIX 86S) and hypereutectic(A390) materials. The new methods to produce semi-solid formed components with high quality are also proposed and discussed in terms of a die design and the development of a lubricant.

A thixotropic grout has been developed for the use of filling a tail void in the shield TBM and as well as various ground voids. The grout developed in this study is a mixture of inorganic substance, cement and some functional additives. Its engineering characteristics was investigated by measuring a viscosity and unconfined compressive strengths. The optimum mix proportion for an effective thixotropic grout was proposed through several repeated laboratory tests. The various physical properties such as thixotropy, unconfined compressive strengths, and durability of the thixotropic grout and the gels produced from the grout were compared with those of the well-known waterglass-type grout such as L.W.. The thixotropic grout developed in the study exhibited an excellent performance for back-filling of tail voids in the shield TBM based on experimental results compared to the existing waterglass grout.

The focus of this study is to evaluate the field applicability of the newly developed inorganic thixotropic-grout in various ways. In order to do this, the volume stability and the permeability of the inorganic thixotropic-grout have been measured and compared to the existing silica type grouts. In addition, the filling capability of the grout into the tail void has been evaluated through both an experiment with a miniature tail-void filling equipment and a test filling at the shield TBM construction site. The volume loss of the inorganic thixotropic-grout after a 14 day-curing under the atmosphere condition was appeared to be minimal. The excellent waterproofing ability of the inorganic thixotropic-grout was confirmed through a permeability test. The toxicity of the inorganic thixotropic-grout has been evaluated through a toxicity test of aquatic fishes (KS M 0111) and the pH value of the liquid eluviated from inorganic thixotropic-grout was measured as an average of 8.0 and a fatality rate of goldfish after 96 hours was 10% or so. The existence of harmful heavy metals in the liquid eluviated from the inorganic thixotropic-grout has been also examined through an atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) test. Any of harmful heavy metals were not detected and the detected level of $Cr^{6+}$ and Cd was far below the standard. Based on both an experiment with a miniature tail-void filling equipment and a test filling at the shield TBM construction site, the filling ability of inorganic thixotropic-grout into the tail void was proved to be excellent.
The theological properties of aqueous suspensions of Black Hills bentonite were measured by using a Couette-type viscometer. Three kinds of flow units in aqueous bentonite suspension were postulated. Each has a different average relaxation time, one Newtonian. One of the non-Newtonian types is thixotropic, and the other is non-thixotropic. The thixotropic non-Newtonian unit is transformed to a Newtonian unit by shear stress. If the stress is relieved, the transformed unit returns to its original state. Two flow equations were derived by introducing chemical kinetics consideration for such a transition into the generalized theory of viscous flow. One equation describes the "upcurve," a diagram of rate of sheat versus shear stress, obtained by increasing the rate of shear, and the other relates to the "downcurve" obtained by decreasing the shear rate. The equations satisfactorilly describe the experimental thixotropic hysteresis of bentonite suspensions. The equations also were successfully applied to the flow curves of the suspensions containing various amounts of monovalent electrolyte (KCI).
Magnesium-3, 6wt% Nickel alloys were fabricated by Rotation-Cylinder Method(RCM) in ambient atmosphere. The alloys were divided into two different heat-treating conditions, as-cast and thixotropic treated. Thixotropic heat treatment enhances the separation of primary hydride former of Mg and the catalytic phase of $Mg_2$Ni. Hydrogenation properties of the each alloy were evaluated and compared by PCI(Pressure-Composition Isotherm) measurement. The maximum hydrogen capacity and the reversible capacity of as -cast Mg-6wt% Ni alloy were 5.2wt% and 3.8wt% at 623k, respectively.

Following previous studies, the current paper describes the results of an experimental program concerning the repair of reinforced concrete columns by thixotropic pseudo plastic mortar, preformed to analyze and quantify the influence of initial construction damage to the behavior of the repaired element. Five columns (section scale 1:2) were designed according to the minimum requirements of reinforcement of ductility orientated codes' design with variables the percentages of initial construction damages. All were tested in axial compression with repeated cycles up to failure. For comparison reasons, another one of the same characteristics, yet healthy, was constructed and tested as a reference specimen. A numerical study (Finite Element Analysis) was conducted for further investigation of the behavior of the thixotropic mortar as repair material. The results indicate that: a) surpassing a specific amount of damage, columns even suitably repaired present lower strain capacity, b) finite element analysis present the same way of deboning of the repaired material taking into consideration the buckling of the reinforcement bars.

A suitability of a thixotropic grout developed in this study has been examined through laboratory tests on strength, segregation, and viscosity. The thixotropic grout is a mixture of two types of liquid components. The A-liquid component consists of cement, water, and MG-A and the B-liquid component consists of scarlet, water, and MG-B. Unconfined compressive strength of specimens prepared with a prefer mix-proportion satisfied a design criteria for the backfilling of tail voids. A material segregation phenomenon under water condition was not observed in the thixotropic grout whereas it was observed in the existing silica-type grout. In addition, viscosity tests have been rallied out on the thixotropic grout to verify the capability of a long-distance delivery in the field. Both the A-liquid component and the B-liquid component maintained a viscosity of below 2,000 cP for 120 minutes. This experimental result confirms that two liquid components guarantees a long-distance delivery in tile field application.
The flow of freshly mixed cement-based material shows thixotropy, which implies some difficulties on robust measurement of its rheological properties: The flow curve of thixotropic materials depends on the used protocol. For examples, higher viscosity is obtained when the rate of shear strain is more quickly increased. Even though precise measurement and modelling of the concrete rheology needs to consider the thixotropic effect, engineers in the concrete field prefer considering as a non-thixotropic Herschel-Bulkley fluid, even more simply Bingham fluid. That is due to robustness of the measurement and application in casting process. In the aspect of simplification, this papers attempts to mimic the thixoropic flow by the non-thixotropic Herschel-Bulkley model. Disregarding the thixotropy of cement based materials allows us to adopt the rheological concept in the field. An optimized protocol to measure the Bingham parameters was finally found based on the accuracy and reproducibility test of cement paste samples, which minimizes the error of simulation stemming from the assumption of non-thixotropy.
