초박막 기체윤활의 수치해석 (Numerical Analysis of Ultra-Thin Gas Film Lubrication)

  • A kinetic theory analysis is used to study the ultra-thin gas flow field in a gas slider bering, The Boltzmann equation simplified by a collision model is solved by means of a finite difference approximation with the discrete ordinate method. Calculations are made for a flow in a micro-channel between an inclined slider and a moving disk drive platter. The results are compared well with those from the DSMC method. The present method does not suffer from statistical noise which is common in particle based methods and requires much less computational effort.

Preparation and Oxygen Binding Properties of Ultra-Thin Polymer Films Containing Cobalt(II) meso-Tetraphenylporphyrin via Plasma Polymerization

  • Ultra-thin polymer films containing cobalt(II) meso-tetraphenylporphyrin(CoTPP) have been prepared by vacuum codeposition of the metal complex and trans-2-butene as an organic monomer using an inductively coupled RF glow discharge operating at 7-9 Watts. The polymer films were characterized by sorption measurements. Sorption data obtained for polymer films containing CoTPP indicate that the CoTPP molecules are capable of reversibly binding oxygen molecules. It was found that the adjacent CoTPP molecules in the aggregated metal complex phase could irreversibly share the oxygen molecules. A dispersion of the metal complex molecules in the polymer matrix was made to maintain the reversible reactivity of the metal complex molecules with oxygen in the polymer films via vacuum evaporation process. The Henry mode solubility constant, the Langmuir mode capacity constant, the amount of binding oxygen, and the dissociation equilibrium in the dual mode sorption theory were discussed.

알루미늄 합금의 저항점용접에서의 열전 효과에 대한 연구 (A Study of Thermoelectric Effect in Resistance Spot Welding of Aluminium Alloy)

  • The erosion of electrode in spot welding of aluminium alloy by direct current is dependent on the electric polarity. The positive electrode is much more eroded than the negative one. To explain this phenomenon, Peltier effect has been generally accepted as a unique theory. In this study Peltier effect was evaluated by calculations on the basis of some references and experiments. The difference of heat generated by Peltier effect on both electrode surfaces was, however, only 4% of total heat generated during wel- ding. Because of insufficient explanation, Kohler theory, which is mainly affected by thin oxide film, was introduced. A theoretical calculation showed 17% of the temperature difference between the positive and negative electrode, in case "surface voltage" resulted from oxide film was 30% of total contact voltage. This revealed that the erosion of electrode could be more affected by Kohler theory than effect.an effect.

Temperature Dependence of Galvanomagnetic Properties in Thin Bi Film

  • Numerical calculation for temperature dependence of galvanomagnetic properties of thin bismuth films is pursued. The quasi-two dimensional system is treated in the perturbation formalism of previous study, where realistic screened potential due to impurity is assumed to be the only scattering channel. The potential is separated into pure two dimensional part and the remaining presumed perturbation part. Relaxation time and mobilities for both electron and hole are evaluated, then temperature dependence of the Hall coefficient and magnetoresistance is obtained. The broad minimum of magnetoresistnace is manifested, and the interpretation under the kinetic theory is made. Thickness dependence of the quantities are also shown, which are in good agreement with the expected quantum size effect.

YIG 단결정 박막에 대한 정자파의 온도의존성 연구 (Temperature Dependence of Magnetostatic Waves on the YIG Single Crystalline Thin Film)

  • LPE(liquid phase epitaxy)방법으로 제작한 YIG 단결정 박막의 정자파(MSW; magnetostatic wave) 모드의 온도의존성을 조사하기 위하여 온도를 -14$0^{\circ}C$에서 20$0^{\circ}C$까지 2$0^{\circ}C$간격으로 변화하면서 강자성공명 실험을 하였다. 시편면과 외부자기장을 평행하게 가할 때 모든 온도에서 주기적인 신호로 나타나는 정자표면파와 정자역체적파 모드를 관측하였다 온도가 감소함에 따라 정자파 모드들은 저자장쪽으로 이동하고 세기가 감소하였고, 각 모드들 사이의 간격은 증가하였다. 온도변화에 따른 정자파 모드를 Walker와 Damon-Eshbach 이론으로 분석한 결과 잘 일치하였다. 온도별로 계산한 포화자화값은 온도가 감소함에 따라 증가하였다. 관측된 정자파 모드의 선폭은 온돈가 감소함에 따라 다양하게 변화하였다.

Strain relaxed Co nanocrystals formation from thin films on sapphire substrate induced by nano-second laser irradiation

  • We report the phase transformation of Co thin films on a sapphire substrate induced by laser irradiation. As grown Co films were initially strained and tetragonally distorted. With low power laser irradiation, the surface was ruptured and irregular holes were formed. As the laser power was increased, the films changed into round shape Co nanocrystals with well-defined 6-fold structure. By measuring the XRD of Co nanostructure as a function of laser energy densities, we found that the change of morphological shapes from films to nanocrystals was accompanied with decrease of the tetragonal distortion as well as strain relaxation. By measuring the size distribution of nanocrystals as a function of film thickness, the average diameter is proportional to 1.7 power of the film thickness which was consistent with the prediction of thin film hydrodynamic (TFT) dwetting theory. Finally, we fabricated the formation of size controlling nanocrystals on the sapphire substrate without strain.

  • LPE(liquid phase epitaxy)방법으로 제작한 YIG박막의 정자파 모드를 연구하기 위해서 강자성공명 실험을 하였다. 시편면과 오부자기장이 평행할 때 주기적인 신호로 나타나는 정자표면파와 정자역체적파 모드를 관측하였으나 서로 수직할 때는 복잡한 신호를 관측하였다. 평행할 때 관측한 정자파 모드를 Walker와 Damon-Eshbach이론으로 분석한 결과 잘 설명되었다. 관측된 정자파 모드의 선폭은 0.4Oe이었고, 이론으로 분석할 때 구한 포화자화는 137emu/㎤이었다. 또한 시편의 포화자화 값의 변화와 두께의 변화에 따른 모드들의 변화를 알아보기 위하여 정자역체적파의 (1, 1)과 (3, 1)모드를 계산하고 서로 비교하였다.

  • Metal-Oxide-Metal thin film diodes have been fabricated on the glass substrates by conventional vacuum evaporation method, and the electrical properties, primarily current-voltage characteristics of diodes, have been discussed in the light of various conduction theories presented so far. The experimental results were ploted in the different figures according to the assumed theory, and the characteristic coefficients peculior to these theories were estimated from the function dependence of current (I) upon voltage (V), temperature (T) and oxide film thickness (d).

Theory of Charged Clusters Linking Nano Science and Technology to Thin Films

  • Based on experimental and theoretical analyses, we suggested a new possibility that the CVD diamond films grow not by the atomic unit but by the charged clusters containing a few hundreds of carbon atoms, which form spontaneously in the gas phase [J. Crysta] Growth 62 (1996) 55]. These hypothetical negatively-charged clusters were experimentally confirmed under a typical hot-filament diamond CVD process. Thin film growth by charged clusters or gas phase colloids of a few nanometers was also confirmed in Si and ZrO₂ CVD and appears to be general in many other CVD processes. Many puzzling phenomena in the CVD process such as selective deposition and nanowire growth could be explained by the deposition behavior of charged clusters. Charged clusters were shown to generate and contribute at least partially to the film deposition by thermal evaporation. Origin of charging at the relatively low temperature was explained by the surface ionization described by Saha-Langmuir equation. The hot surface with a high work function favors positive charging of clusters while that of a low work function favors negative charging.
