Thin films of tin-oxide were prepared by chemical vapor deposition technique using the direct of SnCl4. Resistivity and carrier concentration of deposited SnO2 thin film were measured by 4-point probe method and Hall effect measurement. The results showed the remarkable dependence of electrical properties on the deposition temperature. As the deposition temperature increased, resistivity of deposited film initially decreased to a minimum value of ~10-3$\Omega$cm at 50$0^{\circ}C$, and then rapidly increased to ~10$\Omega$cm at $700^{\circ}C$. Electrical conductance of these films was measured in exposure to H2 gas. It was found that gas sensitivity was affected combination of film thickness and intrinsic resistivity of deposited film. Gas sensitivity increased with decrease of film thickness. Fairly high sensitivity to H2 gas was obtained for the film deposited at $700^{\circ}C$. Optimum operation temperature of sensing was 30$0^{\circ}C$ for H2 gas.
Uncooled pyroelectric infrared detectors based on BST(B $a_{-x}$S $r_{x}$Ti $O_3$) thin films have been fabricated by RF magnetron sputtering and surface Micromachining technology. The detectors form BST thin film ferroelectric capacitors grown by RF magnetron sputtering on N/O/N(S $i_3$$N_4$/ $SiO_2$/S $i_3$$N_4$) membrane. The sputtered BST thin film exhibits highly c-axis oriented crystal structure that no poling treatment for sensing applications is required. This is an essential factor to increase the yield for realization of an infrared image sensor. surface-Micromachining technology is used to lower the thermal mass of the detector by giving maximum sensor efficiency Gold-black is evaporated on top of the sensing elements used the thermal evaporator. fabricated uncooled pyroelectric infrared detectors is highly output voltage at the low temperature(1$^{\circ}C$).).).
The Pd or Pt-doped $WO_{3}$ thin-film NOx sensor was fabricated. The $WO_{3}$-based thin films as a gas-sensing layer were deposited at ambient temperature in a high-vacuum resistance heated evaporator and annealed at $500^{\circ}C$. The gas sensitivity ($R_{gas}/R_{air}$) to 5 ppm $NO_{2}$ measured at the operating temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ was 50 (highest sensitivity) for the 0.5 wt.% $Pt-WO_{3}$ sensor.
In order to apply WO3 thin films to the semiconducting NOx gas sensors as a sensing material, which have been expected to show good electrical properties, such as large sensitivity, rapid responsibility, and high selectivity, the fabrication method and their sensing characteristics were studied. The variations of surface morphologies, crystallographic orientations and crystallinity with the WO3 thin film growing methods thermal evaporation and DC sputtering methods were investigated by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis. As a result of sensitivity (Rgas/Rair) measurements for the 5 ppm NO2 test gas, the sensitivity values were 113 for the sputtered films and 93 for the evaporated films. It was also observed that the recovery rate of a sensing signal after measuring sensitivity was faster in the sputtered films than in the evaporated films.
Quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) based sensors are used for various applications owing to advantages such as excellent accuracy and precision, rapid response, and tiny footprint. Traditional applications of QCM-based sensors include biological sensing and thin-film thickness monitoring. Recently, QCMs have been used as functional material for novel physical and chemical detections, and with improved device design. QCM-based sensors are garnering considerable attention in particulate matter sensing and electric nose application. This review covers the challenges and solutions in physical, chemical, and biological sensing applications. First, various physical sensing applications are introduced. Secondly, the toxic gas and chemical detection studies are outlined, focusing on introducing a coating method for uniform sensing film and sensing materials for a minimal damping effect. Lastly, the biological and medical sensing applications, which use the monomolecularly decorating method for biomolecule recognition and a brief description of the overall measuring system, are also discussed.
W $O_3$-Sn $O_2$thin film sensors with approximately 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in thickness were fabricated by using a high-vacuum resistance-heating evaporator, were annealed at 50$0^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours in air, and then their crystallinities and surface microstructures were analyzed. As results of gas-sensing characteristics to oxidizing gas, N $O_2$, and reducing gas, CO, of 100 ppm, the highest gas sensitivities (S= $R_{gas}$/ $R_{air}$) were the W $O_3$thin-film sensor measured at 25$0^{\circ}C$ for N $O_2$(S≒1000) and the Sn $O_2$thin-film sensor measured at 15$0^{\circ}C$ to 25$0^{\circ}C$ range for CO (S≒0.25), respectively.ely.

A flammable gas sensor based on the $SnO_2$thin film deposited by the reactive ion assisted deposition was fabricated and ultra-thin Pd layer as catalyst was adsorbed at surface by ion beam sputtering. The initial oxidation states of Pd catalyst were controlled to investigate the role of Pd in the sensing process of inflammale gas sensor through annealing in air and vacuum respectively. The Pd catalyst existing in pure metallic state showed the sensitivity higher than that of PdO. The result might be closely related to the fact that PdO as a surface acceptor would receive electrons via Pd sub-channel from $SnO_2$, and thus which reduces the sensitivity and delay the response time.

ZnO thin films were deposited on p-type 4H-SiC substrate by pulsed laser deposition. ZnO nanowires were formed on p-type 4H-SiC substrate by furnace. Ti/Au electrodes were deposited on ZnO thin film/SiC and ZnO nanowire/SiC structures, respectively. Structural and crystallographical properties of the fabricated ZnO thin film/SiC and ZnO nanowire/SiC structures were investigated by field emission scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction. In this work, resistance and sensitivity of ZnO thin film/SiC gas sensor and ZnO nanowire/SiC gas sensor were measured at $300^{\circ}C$ with various CO gas concentrations (0%, 90%, 70%, and 50%). Resistance of gas sensor decreases at CO gas atmosphere. Sensitivity of ZnO nanowire/SiC gas sensor is twice as big as sensitivity of ZnO thin film/SiC gas sensor.

A novel design of gas sensor using Ga-doped ZnO (GZO) thin films which are deposited on low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) substrates is presented. The LTCC substrates with thickness of 400 ${\mu}m$ are fabricated by laminating 12 green tapes which consist of alumina and glass particle in an organic binder. The GZO thin films with different thickness are deposited on LTCC substrates, by RF magnetron sputtering method. The microstructure and sensing properties of GZO gas sensing films are analyzed as a function of the film thickness. The films are well crystallized in the hexagonal (wurzite) structure with increasing thickness. The maximum sensitivity of 3.49 is obtained at 100 nm film thickness and the fastest 90% response time of 27.2 sec is obtained at 50 nm film thickness for the operating temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ to the $NO_2$ gas.

In this study, ZnO nanorods and $SnO_2$-CuO heterogeneous oxide were grown on membrane-type gas sensor platforms and the sensing characteristics for carbon monoxide (CO) were studied. Diaphragm-type gas sensor platforms with built-in Pt micro-heaters were made using a conventional bulk micromachining method. ZnO nanorods were grown from ZnO seed layers using the hydrothermal method, and the average diameter and length of the nanorods were adjusted by changing the concentration of the precursor. Thereafter, $SnO_2$-CuO heterogeneous oxide thin films were grown from evaporated Sn and Cu thin films. The average diameters of the ZnO nanorods obtained by changing the concentration of the precursor were between 30 and 200 nm and the ZnO nanorods showed a sensitivity value of 21% at a working temperature of $350^{\circ}C$ and a carbon monoxide concentration of 100 ppm. The $SnO_2$-CuO heterogeneous oxide thin films showed a sensitivity value of 18% at a working temperature of $200^{\circ}C$ and a carbon monoxide concentration of 100 ppm.
