Structure and differentiation mechanism of the seed coat of Panax ginseng are studied with light and electron microscopes to clarify the developmental processes of seed coat and the structural changes during the differentiation of the seed. The seed coat of ginseng is differentiated from the inner cell layers of ovary wall, which can be compared with the seed coat differentiated from integument(s) in other plants. The single integument is differentiated into endothelium, which is degenerated to one layer of 4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in thickness, composed of remants of cell wall components in fully ripened seed. The ripened seed coat is composed of three layers; fringe layer, inner layer and palisade layer, and all of the them are crossed at right angles with one another. This may be the cause of protection of the kernel from other mechanical injuries. The thickness of fully ripened seed coat is about 300~600 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and arrangements of sclereids are irregular. However, the raphe region of seed coat is thin about 200 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in thickness and sclereids in that region are arranged regularly. This is the important cause for the cleavage of the seed coat during post-maturation process. The vascular bundles on the raphe are still remaining after sarcocarps are removed, and one of the branches of vascular bundles entered into the seed coat through the hilum and extended to chalazal region. During post-maturation process, the supply of water being necessary for growth of embryo may be accompolished by the vascular bundles entered into the seed coat through the opened hilum.

Torrefaction is one of the methods to increase combustion calorific value and hydrophobicity of biomass. In this study, the effects of torrefaction on devolatilization, char reactivity and biomass structure were analyzed. Empty fruit bunch (EFB) and Kenaf biomass were used as fuels to be torrefied in the N2 environment at 200, 250 and $290^{\circ}C$. Devolatilization and char kinetics were analyzed by using TGA and biomass structure was investigated through petrography image. The reactivity showed different trends depending on the torrefaction temperature and biomass structure. The herbaceous biomass, Kenaf, was shown as high reactivity and thin wall structure. On the contrary, the woody biomass, EFB, had relatively low reactivity and thick wall structure.
AgInS2 단결정 박막의 광전류 단파장대 봉우리들로부터 10 K에서 측정된 ΔCr(crystal field splitting)은 0.15eV, ΔSo(spin orbit coupling)는 0.0089 eV였다. 광전도 셀로서 응용성을 알아보기 위해 감도(γ), pc/dc(photocurrent/darkcurrent), 최대허용소비전력(maximum allowable power dissipation: MAPD), 응답시간(response time)등을 측정한 결과, S 증기 분위기에 열처리한 광전도 셀의 경우 γ=0.98, pc/dc=1.02×106, MAPD=312 mW, 오름시간(rise time)=10.4 ms, 내림시간(decay time)=10.8 ms로 가장 좋은 특성을 얻었다.

A numerical study is made on the melting process of an unconstrained ice inside an isothermal ice-ball capsule. The unmelted ice core is continuously ascending on account of buoyancy forces. Such a buoyancy-assisted melting is commonly characterized by the existence of a thin liquid film above the ice core. The present study is motivated to present a full-equation-based analysis of the influences of the initial subcooling and the natural convection on the fluid flow associated with the buoyancy-assisted melting. In the light of the solution strategy, the present study is substantially distinguished from the existing works in that the complete set of governing equations in both the melted and unmelted regions are resolved in one domain. Numerical results are obtained by varying the wall temperature and initial temperature. The present results reported the transition of the flow pattern in a spherical capsule, as the wall temperature was increased over the density inversion point. In addition, time wise variation of the shapes for the liquid film and the lower ice surface, the time rate of change in the melt volume fraction and the melting distance at symmetric line is analyzed and is presented.
In locations where the cost or concrete is relatively high, or in situations where the weight or concrete members is to be kept to a minimum, it may be economical to use hollow reinforced concrete vertical members. Hollow reinforced concrete columns with low axial load, moderate longitudinal steel percentage, and a reasonably thick wall were found to perform in a ductile manner at the flexural strength, similar to solid columns. However, hollow reinforced concrete columns with high axial load, high longitudinal steel percentage, and a thin wall were found to behave in a brittle manner at the flexural strength, since the neutral axis is forced to occur away from the inside face of the tube towards the section centroid and, as a result, crushing of concrete occurs near the unconfined inside face of the section. If, however, a steel tube is placed near the inside face of a circular hollow column, the column can be expected not to fail in a brittle manner by disintegration of the concrete in the compression zone. Design recommendation and example by moment-curvature analysis program for curvature ductility are presented. Theoretical moment-curvature analysis for reinforced concrete columns, indicating the available flexural strength and ductility, can be conducted providing the stress-strain relation for the concrete and steel are known. In this paper, a unified stress-stain model for confined concrete by Mander is developed for members with circular sections.
We demonstrate that ruthenium oxide ($RuO_2$) nanotubes with controlled dimensions can be synthesized using facile electrochemical means and anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates. $RuO_2$ nanotubes were formed using a cyclic voltammetric deposition technique and an aqueous plating solution composed of $RuCl_3$. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) was used to determine the effective electrochemical oxidation potential of $Ru^{3+}$ to $RuO_2$. The length and wall thickness of $RuO_2$ nanotubes can be adjusted by varying the range and cycles of the electrochemical cyclic voltammetric potentials. Thick-walled $RuO_2$ nanotubes were obtained using a wide electrochemical potential range (-0.2~1 V). In contrast, an electrochemical deposition potential range from 0.8 to 1 V produced thin-walled and longer $RuO_2$ nanotubes in an identical number of cycles. The dependence of wall thickness and length of $RuO_2$ nanotubes on the range of cyclic voltammetric electrochemical potentials was attributed to the distinct ionic diffusion times. This significantly improves the ratio of surface area to mass of materials synthesized using AAO templates. Furthermore, this study is directive to the controlled synthesis of other metal oxide nanotubes using a similar strategy.

The paper analyzes a scheme of decontamination of radionuclides from concrete structures, in which rapid microwave heating is used to spall off a thin contaminated surface layer. The analysis is split in two parts: (1) The hygrothermal part of the problem, which consists in calculating the evolution of the temperature and pore pressure fields, and (2) the fracturing part, which consists in predicting the stresses, deformations and fracturing. The rate of the distributed source of heat due to microwaves in concrete is calculated on the basis of the standing wave normally incident to the concrete wall with averaging over both the time period and the wavelength because of the very short time period of microwaves compared to the period of temperature waves and the heterogeneity of concrete. The reinforcing bars parallel to the surface arc treated as a smeared steel layer. The microplane model M4 is used as the constitutive model for nonlinear deformation and distributed fracturing of concrete. The aim of this study is to determine the required microwave power and predict whether and when the contaminated surface layer of concrete spalls off. The effects of wall thickness, reinforcing bars, microwave frequencies and power are studied numerically. As a byproduct of this analysis, the mechanism of spalling of rapidly heated concrete is clarified.

In deep drawing of sheet metal, there are many cases in which the uniform and thin wall thickness of the drawn products is more important than the bottom thickness. In this case, we can not easily get the deep drawn products with the uniform and precise wall thickness by only drawing process. Therefore in general the manufacturing processes which both the drawing and the ironing process are proceeded sequentially are used. But this method has the disadvantages of a cost-up, decrease of productivity and degradation of quality, because the ironing process is added after the drawing process. In this study, in order to improve those problems and to enhance the effect of deep drawing, the combined process of redrawing and ironing fur multistep drawing of cylindrical cups is used. In this experiment, we considered the characteristics of the combined process such as the relation between the drawing and ironing rates, the drawing limits and the forces needed for operations. The suggested force prediction shows that it can successfully represent experimental results.
In nanomagnetism, one of the crucial scientific questions is whether magnetic behaviors are deterministic or stochastic on a nanoscale. Apart from the exciting physical issue, this question is also of paramount highest relevance for using magnetic materials in a wealth of technological applications such as magnetic storage and sensor devices. In the past, the research on the stochasticity of a magnetic process has been mainly done by macroscopic measurements, which only offer ensemble-averaged information. To give more accurate answer for the question and to fully understand related underlying physics, the direct observation of statistical behaviors in magnetic structures and magnetic phenomena utilizing advanced characterization techniques is highly required. One of the ideal tools for such study is a full-field soft X-ray microscope since it enables imaging of magnetic structures on the large field of view within a few seconds. Here we review the stochastic behaviors of various magnetic processes including magnetization reversal process in thin films, magnetic domain wall motions in nanowires, and magnetic vortex formations in nanodisks studied by full-field soft X-ray microscopy. The origin triggering the stochastic nature witnessed in each magnetic process and the way to control the intrinsic nature are also discussed.

In this study, we surveyed weathering progressing aspect by major elements variation and rock hardness by using XRF analysis, schmidt hammer, and thin section analysis. This observation suggested that the weathering process is likely to develop differently according to microstructural characteristics. R-value on the inside wall are lower than those on the outside. Also, the shadier the environment was, the closer it was to inshore areas, the R-value appeared to be lower. The movement of the elements such as Ca, Na and K shows that feldspar is hydrolyzed and can form salt crystallization like a gypsum or halite when they combine with the elements such as S or Cl. It proved a high CaO, $Na_2O$ and $K_2O$ content on flaking inside wall and rock meal. The exfoliation was mainly observed along the shady backwall and ceiling of tafoni. This helped in predicting the growth of tafoni as well as the direction of its progress.
