  • In this study, the acoustic properties of ceramic sound absorbing materials with different thickness and bulk density were investigated in terms of characteristic impedance, propagation constant, and absorption coefficient. The well-known two-cavity method was used for evaluating those acoustic parameter values. Also, in order to validate the experimentally measured values, the results were compared with the results obtained from Chung and Blaser's transfer function method and SWR method. The experimentally measured values of normal absorption coefficients were generally agreed well with the corresponding values from the transfer function method and the SWR method. Based on the experimental results, the following conclusions could be made. The magnitude of the absorption coefficient and the frequency range of the maximum absorption coefficient were controllable by changing the thickness and bulk density of the sound absorbing materials.

  • Performance analysis of the butterfly valve in water fire extinguishing has been carried out. Performance analysis of the butterfly valve are investigated for torque characteristics, pressure loss and cavitations. The torque characteristics of disc are corrected for the angles of attack of valve disc by theoretical torque equation, and correction equation is added. The pressure loss coefficient on opening angle of valve has been formulated by applying the Carnot's equations. The torque characteristics, pressure loss and cavitations of the butterfly valve are analyzed for the ratio of disc thickness to the valve diameter. Cavitations are analyzed from the pressure loss coefficient of valve. The analysis of pressure loss and cavitation has been carried out change of the thickness ratio on opening angle of valve. These analysis data are utilize to necessary engineering data to develope of the butterfly valve.

  • The validity of the existing formulas for the estimation of reflection coefficient of waves due to perforated wall is investigated using the result of hydraulic experiments conducted with perforated walls of various thickness. The result shows that, when the wall is thick, the energy loss coefficient is reduced to 62% of the value evaluated using the existing formula for sharp-crested orifice. The result also shows that the length of inertia resistance increases linearly as the thickness of the wall increases. The width of chamber to achieve the minimum reflection of waves decreases as the length of inertia resistance increases. Thus, the result found in the present study can be usful for the design of perforated wall.

  • The square cup deep drawing simulations for hydraulic counter pressure deep drawing are carried out by the finite element method and the formability factors which affect to the formability in case of that process are investigated. As a result, it is found that the thickness distributions keep the higher quality than that of the conventional deep drawing, and the maximum pressure increased the thickness at the die profile regions of blank. But friction coefficient decreased the thickness at the same regions.

  • In this work, the carbon fabric reinforced phenolic composite is applied for heavy-duty journal bearings. The through thickness compressive strength (TTCS), which is one of the most important characteristics for the bearing material, is measured and analyzed with respect to the stacking sequence and composite thickness. Also, the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and thermal conductivity of the composite in the thickness direction were measured with respect to stacking sequence.

  • In previous studies, charged mosaic membranes having two different fixed charges in the membrane matrix indicated unique transport behavior such as preferential material transport. In this study, the composite charged mosaic membrane endurable to mechanical pressure in practical application was investigated from the same aspect of solute and solvent transport as before. Lp and ${\omega}$ estimated by taking account of active layer thickness were satisfactorily consistent with those in mosaic membrane without reinforcement. On the other hand, the reflection coefficient s indicated the negative value that suggests preferential material transport.

  • The absorption coefficient of contrast media was measured region of diagnostic X-ray. Relative values of absorption coefficient was found the largest peak in the range of $60{\sim}70kVp$ for sodium sulfate and 60kVp for iodine. Increasing the thickness of contrast media and patient, the values of absorption coefficient was rising.

  • This paper deals with the free vibrations of conical shells with linearly variable thickness by the transfer influence coefficient method. The classical thin shell theory based upon the Flugge theory is assumed and the governing equations of a conical shell are written as a coupled set of first order matrix differential equations using the transfer matrix. The Runge-Kutta-Gill integration method is used to solve the governing differential equation. The natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes are calculated numerically for the conical shells with linearly variable thickness and various boundary conditions at the edges. The present method is applied to conical shells with linearly varying thickness, and the effects of the semi-vertex angle, the number of circumferential waves and thickness ratio on vibration are studied.

  • The structures of inductive irises are used commonly in waveguide filter, especially at highter frequencyies, due to low loss and high temperature stability. However, the iris thickness can not be neglected, as it could be at the lower frequencies. Approximate models assuming zero thickness fail to predict the exact behavior of the filter. And current thickness correction is introduced which is valid in the case of thick irises only. Account of the effect of round is normally not taken. So the necessity of finding a relation for the two factors-iris thickness and round-arises in the design of waveguide filters. This paper describes a mutual relation that considers the combined effect of finite thickness and round from the start. In order to test the validity of the changed relation, weveral examples are given. And the measured response of each case is then compared with the predicted reponse. And it is shown that the radius is of perceptible influence on the transmission coefficient through a thick iris.
