  • There have been many studies on the two dimensional thermo-elasto-plastic analysis in welding process, mostly from viewpoint of residual stresses. In this study, the temperature distribution, transient thermal stress, and angular distortion during bead-on-plate gas metal arc welding of rectangular plates were analyzed by using the finite element method. A nonlinear heat transfer analysis was first performed by taking account of the temperature-dependent material properties and convection heat losses on the surface. This was followed by a thermo-elasto-plastic stresses and distortion analysis that incorporates the constrained boundary condition of the two dimensional solution domain to get the three dimensional size effect of the plate. The constrained boundary conditions adopted in this study were the constant displacement condition over the whole two dimensional section for axial movement in the welding direction, and the force boundary condition for rotational movementof the domain around the axis of the welding direction. It could be revealed that the theoretical predictions of the angular distortion have an improved agreement with the experimentally obtained data presented in the previous study.

  • It is known that there is no demand for building the arctic environment in Korea. However, it is important to use the different energy source instead of fuel source due to global warming. It is now demanded of using gas of Alaska and Siberia for long term developing the natural gas. The design of gas pipelines in Korea is very different from the arctic region. The operation of gas in arctic region have to consider of arctic region such as permafrost and active regions. It is needed to understand of gas pipeline design with different arctic soil properties. Nowadays, the pipelines is designed with stress-based and but there is demanded for strain based design with more deformed pipeline. We study of arctic environment with different active region using Finite Element Method of thermal elasto-plastic analysis.

  • Prediction and control of the thermal distortion is particularly important for the design and manufacture of welded thin plate panel. In this study, experiments and computations are performed to analyze effect of a hole configuration and a specimen size on distortion. In addition, this study aims to develop a thermal elasto-plastic simulation using finite element method to predict distortion, with particular emphasis on buckling deformation generated in plates welded around hole. From the experiments, the severe distortion appeared in the weldments by the laser welding process, in which the specimen size plays an important role on the distortion but the hole configuration showed little effect. And the results of numerical analysis were corresponded well with the experiment ones. Thus, a thermal elasto-plastic analysis model for predicting the weld distortion of thin plate panel was successfully developed through this study.

  • The analysis of thermally induced stresses in engineering structures is a very important and necessary task with respect to design and modeling of pressurized containers, heat exchangers, aircrafts segments, etc. to prevent them from failure and improve working conditions. So, the purpose of this study is to investigate elasto-plastic thermal stresses and deformations in a thin annular plate embedded into rigid container. To this end, analytical research devoted to mathematically and physically rigorous stress/strain analysis is performed. In order to evaluate the effect of logarithmic thermal gradients, commonly applied to structures which incorporate thin plate geometries, different thermal parameters such as temperature mismatch and varying constraint temperature were introduced into the model of elastic perfectly-plastic annular plate obeying the von Mises yield criterion with its associated flow rule. The results obtained may be used in sensitive to temperature differences aircraft structures where the thermal effects on equipment must be kept in mind.

  • A two dimensional thermo elasto-plastic finite clement stress analysis was performed to study stress distributions in functionally gradient material. The upper $ZrO_2$ surface is heated at 1200K until a steady state is established and cooled at 300K. The influences on the thermal stress distributions due to the difference of compositional gradient exponent p were investigated. In this study, we obtained the thermal stresses are low for p=1.

  • A two dimensional thermo elasto-plastic finite element stress analysis was performed to study residual stress distributions in AI composites reinforced by SiC whisker and $ZrO_2$ ceramic joints. The influences on the residual stress distributions due to the difference of the reinforcement volume fraction and interlayer material property were investigated. Specifically, stress distributions between AI interlayer material property were investigated. Specifically, stress distributions between AI interlayer and $ZrO_2$ ceramic and between the AI interlayer and AI composite were computationally analzed.

  • This paper is concerns with the development of the formulae to predict deformation of curved plate due to line heating. For this purpose thermal elasto-plastic analysis has been carried out for both flat and curved plate models with varying parameters which affect the result of line heating. based on the results of numerical analysis, the formulae for predicting angular deformation has been derived through the regression analysis, which. It has been seen that the present model well agrees with the numerical analysis results and can reflect the curvature effect of plate to be heated. This paper ends with some comments on this formulae.

  • The object of the research is to estimate for pearlite structure of quenched carbon steels. The effects of temperature on physical properties metallic structures and the latent heat by phase transformation were considered. In this study a set of constitutive equations relevant to the analysis of thermo-elasto plastic materials with pearlite phase transformation during quenching process way presented on the basis of continuum thermo-dynamics. The iso-thermal transformation curve of the SM50C was formlated by cubic spline curve. The formulated equations of evolution in pearlite transformation was used for structure analysis. The volume fraction of pearlite was obtained from the results of calculated metallic structure by Finite element equation.

  • In this a set of constitutive equation relevant to the analysis of thermo-elasto-plastic materials with phase transformation during quenching process was presented on the basis of continuum thermo-dynamic. In calculating the transient thermal stresses, temperature between coolant and specimen(SM45C) surface was determined from the heat transfer coefficient. A calculation was made for specimen with 40mm in diameter quenched in coolant from $820^{\circ}C$ and the results are as follow. Stresses at starting point of transformation always show the maximum tensile value. Reverse of stresses takes place after completion of transformation of inner part at specimen.
