  • The working of diesel particulate filters(DPF) needs to periodically burn soot that has been accumulated during loading of the DPF. The prediction of the relation between an uniformity of gas velocity and soot regeneration efficiency with simulations helps to make design decisions and to shorten the development process. This work presents a comprehensive combined 'DOC+CDPF' model approach. All relevant behaviors of flow fluid are studied in a 3D model. The obtained flow fields in the front of DPF is used for 1D simulation for the prediction of the thermal behavior and regeneration efficiency of CDPF. Validation of the present simulation are performed for the axial and radial direction temperature profile and shows goods agreement with experimental data. The coupled simulation of 3D and 1D shows their impact on the overall regeneration efficiency. It is found that the flow non-uniformity may cause severe radial temperature gradient, resulting in degrading regeneration efficiency.

  • The NOx emission characteristics with oxygen enrichment in nonpremixed counterflow and coflow jet flame of $CH_4$ fuel have been investigated numerically. A small amount of nitrogen is included in oxygen-enriched combustion, in order to consider the inevitable $N_2$ contamination by air infiltration. The results show that the initial increase of NO with increasing oxygen enrichment is due to increasing temperature and residence time, while its subsequent decrease above 75% oxygen is due to decreasing the consumption rate of nitrogen. When oxygen addition exceeds 30%, Thermal NO gradually becomes the dominant production pathway and Prompt NO becomes negative pathway for net NO production rate. It is also seen that Thermal NO plays an important role in NO reduction when strain rate increase in oxygen-enriched combustion. Finally, the results of EINOx with oxygen enrichment in coflow jet flame show the similar profile with those of conterflow flame. It is confirmed that, with leakage of 1% nitrogen in the oxidizer stream, the corresponding EINOx is eight times of that emitted from regular $CH_4$/Air flame.

  • Glycinin of more than $97\%$ purity was modified using maleic anhydride. Glycinin samples of $0\%,\;65\%,\;and\;95\%$ lysine residue modifications were used to determine the changes in turbidimetric characteristics of the protein due to maleylation. The solubility behavior of the protein as a function of pH was changed with maleylation. The isoelectric point of $65\%\;and\;95\%$ modified glycinin shifted to pH 4.0 and pH 3.5-4.0, respectively, as compared to pH 4.6 for native glycinin. Maleylated glycinins exhibited increased solubility at pH above 4.6. Turbidity of native glycinin decreased substantially by the addition of NaCl, but the stabilizing effect of NaCl decreased when the protein was chemically modified. The effect of NaCl on $65\%$ modified glycinin was intermediate between native glycinin and $95\%$ modified sample. Thermal aggregation of native glycinin was completed within 5 min of heating at $80^{\circ}C$. Maleylation contributed significantly to the thermostability of the protein at pH of 7.0 and 9.0, exhibiting little turbidity. Addition of NaCl suppressed thermal aggregation of native glycinin, but turbidity actually increased for the samples of $65\%\;and\;95\%$ modification.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze heating and cooling load variation due to envelope retrofits in an old school building. In a previous study, envelope retrofit of an old school building resulted in annual energy consumption reduction. However, cooling energy consumption increased with the envelope retrofit. This is because of high internal heat generation rates in school buildings and internal heat cannot escape through windows or walls when the envelope's thermal performance improves. To clarify this assumption, thermal performance changes due to envelope retrofits were analyzed by simulation. Results revealed indoor temperature and inner window surface temperature increased with high insulation level of windows. Indoor heat loss through windows by conduction, convection and radiation decreased and resulted in an increase of cooling load in an old school building. From results of this study, energy saving impact of envelope retrofits in an old school building may not be significant because of high internal heat gain level in school buildings. In case of replacing windows in school buildings, local climate and internal heat gain level should be considered.

  • The antioxidant activity and isoflavone content of chokong, Rhynchosia nolubilis seeds pickled in vinegar at $4^{\circ}C$ for 2 weeks, were investigated. The polyphenol content and 2,2-diphenyl-1-pycrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical-scavenging capacity were lower in chokong than in raw seeds. Based on isoflavone analysis, the aglycone (daidzein and genistein) content was high in chokong while the content of the corresponding glucosides (daidzin and genistin) was similar to that in raw seeds. Thermal processing, in which seeds were heated in vinegar at $121^{\circ}C$ for 20 min, reduced the polyphenol content but did not affect the DPPH radical-scavenging capacity compared to the pickling process. The heated seeds had a 2.6 to 2.7 times higher glucoside content and 51 to 55% lower aglycone content than chokong, depending on the kind of vinegar used. During pickling and thermal processing, vinegars were more effective at eluting antioxidants and isoflavones from seeds than other solutions such as acetic acid, citric acid and HCl solutions, distilled water, and phosphate buffer (pH 7.0).

  • We fabricated textured Ag substrates for YBCO coated conductor and evaluated the effects of annealing temperature on microstructural evolution, texture formation, and surface morphology. Ag ingot, as an initial specimen, was prepared by plasma arc melting(PAM). Subsequently, the ingot was cold rolled to 100 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thick tape and annealed at temperatures of 600-80$0^{\circ}C$. The texture and surface morphology of the substrate were characterized by pole-figure and atomic force microscopy(AFM) profile, respectively. It was observed that a strong {110}<110> texture was formed after annealing and its symmetry improved as annealing temperature increased. The full-width at half-maximum(FWHM) of {110}<110> pole was as sharp as 10$^{\circ}$ for the substrate annealed at 80$0^{\circ}C$. On the other hand, it was found that the thermal grooving and faceting became remarkable as annealing temperature increased : root-mean-square(RMS) roughness of the substrate annealed at 80$0^{\circ}C$ was 39.2 nm. The substrate of strong texture and smooth surface, fabricated in our study, is considered to be suitable for use as a substrate for the epitaxial deposition of superconductor film.

  • FC-BGA has advantages over other interconnection methods including high I/O counts, better electrical performance, high throughput, and low profile. But, FC-BGA has a lot of reliability issues. The 2nd level solder joint reliability of the FC-BGA with large chip on laminate substrate was studied in this paper. The purpose of this study is to discuss solder joint failures of 2nd level thermal cycling test. This work has been done to understand the influence of the structure of package, the properties of underfill, the properties and thickness of bismaleimide tiazine substrate and the temperature range of thermal cycling on 2nd level solder joint reliability. The increase of bismaleimide tiazine substrate thickness applied to low modulus underfill was improve of solder joint reliability. The resistance of solder ball fatigue was increased solder ball size in the solder joints of FC-BGA.

  • Spatially resolved, quantitative, non-destructive analysis using synchrotron x-ray reflectivity (XR) with subnano-scale resolution was successfully performed on the nanoporous organosilicate thin films for low dielectric applications. The structural information of porous thin films, which were prepared with polymethylsilsesquioxane and thermally labile 4-armed, star-shaped poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) composites, were characterized in terms of the laterally averaged electron density profile along with a film thickness as well as a total thickness. The thermal process used in this work caused to efficiently undergo sacrificial thermal degradation, generating closed nanopores in the film. The resultant nanoporous films became homogeneous, well-defined structure with a thin skin layer and low surface roughness. The average electron density of the calcined film reduced with increase of the initial porogen loading, and finally leaded to corresponding porosity ranged from 0 to 22.8% over the porogen loading range of 0-30 wt%. In addition to XR analysis, the surface and the inner structures of films are investigated and discussed with atomic force and scanning electron microscopy images.
