  • The use of ceramic inserts in hot extrusion dies offers significant technical and economic advantages over other forms of manufacture. In this paper, process simulation and stress analysis are thus combined during the design, and a data exchange program has been developed that enables optimal design of the dies taking into account the elastic deflections generated in shrink fitting the die inserts and that caused by the stresses generated in the process. The shrink fit analysis has been performed that enables optimal design of the dies taking into account the elastic deflections which generated in shrink fitting the die inserts and that caused by the stresses generated in the process and by using DEFORM software for process analysis. This data can be processed as load input data for a finite element die-stress analysis. Process simulation and stress analysis are thus combined during the die design. The stress analysis of the dies is used to determine the stress conditions on the ceramic insert by considering contact and interference effects under both mechanical and thermal loads. The results are compared with the experimental ones for verification.

  • Carbonyl iron (CI) is successfully incorporated as an additive into a polystyrene (PS) matrix via a highenergy ball milling method, under an n-hexane medium with volume fractions between 1% and 5% for electromagnetic interference shielding applications by the combination of magnetic CI and an insulating PS matrix. The morphology and the dispersion of CI are investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy, which indicates a uniform distribution of CI in the PS matrix after 2 h of milling. The thermal behavior results indicate no significant degradation of the PS when there is a slight increase in the onset temperature with the addition of CI powder, when compared to the as-received PS pellet. After milling, there are no interactions between the CI and the PS matrix, as confirmed by Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy. In this study, the milled CI-PS powder is extruded to make filaments, and can have potential applications in the 3-D printing industry.

  • Conductive polymer blends and composites are widely used for different safety application such as electrostatic charge dissipation(ESD), electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding, electrostatic prevention and safety chemical sensor. In order to prepare a impedance-type humidity sensor that is durable at high humidities and high temperature, electically conductive polymer blends based on diallyldimethylammonium chloride(DADMAC) and epoxy were prepared in this study. The polymer blends type conductive ionomer exhibits reaction each other DADMAC and epoxy in FT-IR and DSC analysis. The blends material was traced by new peak at 1600cm-1 and appeard improvement of thermal resistance by melting point shift. Alumina substrate was deposited a pair of gold electrodes by screen printing. The blend material were spin-coated with a thin film type on the surface of alumina substrate. The polymer bleld type sensor exhibits a linear impedance increasing better than DADMAC coated humidity sensor. Also it shows good sensitivity, low hysteresis and durability against high humidity.

  • Based on the Butler scattering kernel for D$_2$O, a computer code DEUKEB has been developed to compute the scattering laws, differential scattering cross sections and total scattering cross sections. Interference scattering between ally two atoms of a D$_2$O molecule is important in resolving the distribution of scattered neutrons in thermal energy region. Energy-transfer scattering cross sections are, therefore, studied in the various incident neutron energies. This study may be put in practice to utilize the kernel in determining the neutron spectrum in a reactor system. The study also shows that the scattering process in D$_2$O is somewhat different from that in $H_2O$.

  • A Rapid Thermal Processing (RTP) system operated below $500^{\circ}C$ has been designed and constructed. It uses an optical pyrometer for measuring wafer temperature, the sensing range of pyrometer is from $2.0{\mu}m$ to $2.4{\mu}m$. To remove the interference effect by IR emitted from lamps an IR filter is adapted which uses water. The best condition for Al alloy using the RTP system is $425^{\circ}C$ for ten seconds. The RTP system uses many lamps for supplying enough power in processing wafer because the absorption wavelength range of IF filter is from $1.3{\mu}m$ to $4.0{\mu}m$. However, reproducibility and uniformity is reduced due to the difference of lamp characteristics. Therefore, for improving the reproducibility and uniformity new RTP system using one lamp is designed. The new RTP system uses a focusing mirror and it focuses the light of lamp. The curverture of the focusing mirror is controlled to supply uniform power in processing wafer. The result of computer simulation shows the possibility of new RTP system using one lamp.

  • Extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL) is expected to be applied for making patterns below 32 nm in device industry. An ultrathin EUV photoresist (PR) of a few nm in thickness is required to reduce minimum feature size further. Here, we show that pentacene molecular layers can be employed as a new EUV resist for the first time. Dots and lines in nm scale are successfully realized using the new molecular resist. We clearly provide the mechanism for forming the nanopatterns with scanning photoemission microscope (SPEM), EUV interference lithography (EUV-IL), atomic force microscope (AFM), photoemission spectroscopy (PES), etc. The molecular PR has several advantages over traditional polymer EUV PRs; for example, high thermal/chemical stability, negligible outgassing, ability to control the height and width on the nanometer scale, leaving fewer residuals, no need for a chemical development process and thus reduction of chemical waste to make the nanopatterns. Besides, it could be applied to any substrate to which pentacene bonds chemically, such as $SiO_2$, SiN, and SiON, which is of importance in the device industry.

  • In typical spectroscopic ellipsometry, the optical and geometrical properties of thin film and nano pattern can be obtained by measuring the polarization state of light reflected/transmitted from the object by rotating a analyzer or a compensator. We proposed a snapshot spectroscopic ellipsometric system based on a modified Michelson interferometer to overcome the time-consuring measurement principle due to rotating part. The proposed system provides spectral ellipsometric parameters (psi, delta) in real time by using a single spectral interference signal generated in the interferometric polarization module. However, it has a long-term stability problem resulting in delta(k) drift. In this paper, it is experimentally proved that the drift problem is caused by anisotropic refractive index change of the beam intersection layer in beam splitter of interferometer.

  • In this study, the expansion, stress, and operating clearance of bearing elements during operation are observed using the inner/outer ring temperature test data of a 3.0×106 DN-class roller bearing. The operating clearance characteristics of inner-/outer-ring cooling (IORC) bearings are compared to those of inner-ring cooling (IRC) bearings. For IRC bearings, the thermal expansion of the outer ring is the most important factor in clearance variation. As a result, the operating clearance is less than the initial clearance of 61 ㎛, and the operating clearance decreases to 0.5 ㎛ at 25,500 rpm. Conversely, the temperature of the outer ring of IORC bearings is lower than that of IRC bearings, so the operating clearance is kept smaller. When the coolant flow rate to the outer ring is approximately 1.5 to 2.0 L/min, the temperature difference between the inner and outer rings is minimized and the operating clearance is maintained at a significantly lower level than IRC bearings. Small operating clearances are expected to be effective in reducing cage slip and skid damage in roller bearings. The results and analysis procedures of this study can be utilized to design of bearing clearance, lubricant flow rate, and assembled interference in the early design stage of aerospace roller bearings.

  • This study conducts the flow analysis on the basis of the impeller RPM of water metering valve. The software used for the flow analysis is STAR-CCM+. In terms of the structure of the metering valve, it has an impeller installed inside, and a metering chamber has inlet and outlet holes. The flow analysis on the water metering valve drew the following conclusions: Regarding the flow field in the valve, the impeller had the highest velocity distribution, and complex flow field was generated in the metering chamber. In particular, since the path between the inlet and outlet holes in the metering chamber and the valve body was narrow, there was a section that had flow field interference. The flow rate and flow coefficient distribution according to the impeller RPM were on the linear increase. Given that, it showed the feature of the valve used for water metering on the basis of the impeller RPM.
