ZnO is a widely investigated material for the blue and ultraviolet solid-state emitters and detectors. It has been promoted due to a wide-band gap semiconductor which has large exciton binding energy of 60 meV, chemical stability and low radiation damage. However, there are many problems to be solved for the growth of p-type ZnO for practical device applications. Many researchers have made an efforts to achieve p-type conductivity using group-V element of N, P, As, and Sb. In this letter, we have studied the optical characteristics of the antimony-doped ZnO (ZnO:Sb) thin films by means of photoluminescence (PL), PL excitation, temperature-dependent PL, and time-resolved PL techniques. We observed donor-to-acceptor-pair transition at about 3.24 eV with its phonon replicas with a periodic spacing of about 72 meV in the PL spectra of antimony-doped ZnO (ZnO:Sb) thin films at 12 K. We also investigate thermal activation energy and carrier recombination lifetime for the samples. Our result reflects that the antimony doping can generate shallow acceptor states, leading to a good p-type conductivity in ZnO.
In order to get the surface characteristics of the HDI of HDD, the surface damage mechanisms must be totally understood. Particle contamination in hard disk drives is a big concern in today's magnetic recording industry since they are major sources of reliability problems. Namely upon contact with the slider or a contaminant particle, the disk may be scratched or the particles may be embedded into the disk surface. In this work, comparison of scratches was made between those found on actual hard disks and those created using a scratch tester. It was found that ramp loading method is an effective way to make similar scratches as the actual ones. From the ramp loading condition, the relationship between the pressure and the scratch track width could be identified.
An important problem of offshore plant process piping is equipment accidents due to the removal of fine metal debris and foreign substances in the pipes that deliver fluids such as hydraulic oil, lubricating oil and thermal oil. Temporary flushing equipment to remove debris uses fluid equipment of centrifugal pump and gear pump to prevent equipment accident of offshore platform. The equipment manufacturer requires the shipyard to have a cleanliness rating inside the pipe to meet the international standards ISO4406 and NAS1638 quality levels to prevent damage to the equipment sold. The quality of the internal flushing of pipes conforms to the regulations suggested by the equipment manufacturer. In this paper, three types of electric heater capacity, which is a method of evaporating and removing water inside a pipe during an oil flushing process, were compared. In addition, the study was conducted to remove the flushing oil in the pipe and to improve oil quality.
We employed cobalt-disilicide for high-speed logic devices. We prepared stable and low resistant $CoSi_2$ through typical fabrication process including wet cleaning and rapid thermal process (RTP). We sputtered 15nm thick cobalt on the wafer and performed RTP annealing 2 times to obtain 60nm thick $CoSi_2$. We observed spherical shape voids with diameter of 40nm in the surface and inside $CoSi_2$ layers. The voids resulted in taking over abnormal junction leakage current and contact resistance values. We report that the voids in $CoSi_2$ layers are resulted from surface pits during the ion implantation previous to deposit cobalt layer. Silicide reaction rate around pits was enhanced due to Gibbs-Thompson effects and the volume expansion of the silicidation of the flat active regime trapped dimples. We confirmed that keeping the buffer oxide layer during ion implantation and annealing the silicon surface after ion implantation were required to prevent void defects in CoSi$_2$ layers.
The feasibility of cooling in a pressurized heavy water reactor after a large break loss-of-coolant accident has been analyzed using Multidimensional Analysis of Reactor Safety-KINS Standard code during the recirculation phase. Through evaluation of sensitivity of the fuel channel temperature to various effective recirculation flow areas, it is determined that proper cooling of the fuel channels in the broken loop is feasible if the effective flow area remains above approximately 70% of the nominal flow area. When the flow area is reduced by more than approximately 25% of the nominal value, however, incipience of boiling is expected, after which the thermal integrity of the fuel channel can be threatened. In addition, if a dramatic reduction of the recirculation flow occurs, excursions and frequent fluctuations of temperature in the fuel channels are likely to be unavoidable, and thus damage to the fuel channels would be anticipated. To resolve this, emergency coolant supply through the newly installed external injection path can be used as one alternative means of cooling, enabling fuel channel integrity to be maintained and permanently preventing severe accident conditions. Thus, the external injection flow required to guarantee fuel channel coolability has been estimated.
Percutaneous osteoplasty (POP) is defined as the injection of bone cement into various painful bony lesions, refractory to conventional therapy, as an extended technique of percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP). POP can be applied to benign osteochondral lesions and malignant metastatic lesions throughout the whole skeleton, whereas PVP is restricted to the vertebral body. Common spinal metastases occur in the thoracic (70%), lumbosacral (20%), and cervical (10%) vertebrae, in order of frequency. Extraspinal metastases into the ribs, scapulae, sternum, and humeral head commonly originate from lung and breast cancers; extraspinal metastases into the pelvis and femoral head come from prostate, urinary bladder, colon, and uterine cervical cancers. Pain is aggravated in the dependent (or weight bearing) position, or during movement (or respiration). The tenderness and imaging diagnosis should match. The supposed mechanism of pain relief in POP is the augmentation of damaged bones, thermal and chemical ablation of the nociceptive nerves, and local inhibition of tumor invasion. Adjacent (facet) joint injections may be needed prior to POP (PVP). The length and thickness of the applied needle should be chosen according to the targeted bone. Bone cement is also selected by its osteoconduction, osteoinduction, and osteogenesis. Needle route should be chosen as a shortcut to reach the target bony lesions, without damage to the nerves and vessels. POP is a promising minimally invasive procedure for immediate pain relief. This review provides a technical survey for POPs in painful bony lesions.

Indocyanine green (ICG) is a cyanine dye that has been used in medical diagnostics based on fluorescence imaging, and in medical therapy based on the photothermal effect. It is important to systematically understand the photothermal effect and fluorescence characteristics of ICG simultaneously. By varying a number of conditions such as laser power density, laser irradiation wavelength, concentration of ICG solution, and exposure time of laser irradiation, the intensity properties of fluorescence and the temperature change induced by the photothermal effect are measured simultaneously using a charge-coupled-device camera and a thermal-imaging camera. The optimal conditions for maximizing the photothermal effect are determined, while maintaining a relatively long lifetime and high efficiency of the fluorescence for fluorescence imaging. When the concentration of ICG is approximately 50 ㎍/ml and the laser power density exceeds 1.5 W/cm2, the fluorescence lifetime is the longest and the temperature induced by the photothermal effect rapidly increases, exceeding the critical temperature sufficient to damage human cells and tissues. The findings provide useful insight into the realization of effective photothermal therapy, while also specifying the site to be treated and enabling real-time treatment monitoring.
In order to obtain ultra-high resolution MRI images, research and development of 11 T or higher superconducting magnets have been actively conducted in the world, recently. The high-temperature superconductor (HTS), first discovered in 1986, was very limited in industrial application until mid-2010, despite its high critical current characteristics in the high magnetic field compared to the low-temperature superconductor. This is because HTS magnets were unable to operate stably due to the thermal damage when a quench occurred. With the introduction of no-insulation (NI) HTS magnet winding technology that does not burn electrically, it could be expected that the HTS magnets are dramatically reduced in weight, volume, and cost. In this paper, a 6 T-class NI HTS magnet for basic characteristic analysis was designed, and a distributed equivalent circuit model of the NI coils was configured to analyze the charging current characteristics caused by excitation current, and the charge delay phenomenon and loss were predicted through the development of a simulation model. Additionally, the critical current of the NI HTS magnets was estimated, considering the magnetic field, its angle and temperature with a given current. The loss due to charging delay characteristics was analyzed and the result was shown. It is meaningful to obtain detailed operation technology to secure a stable operation protocol for a 6T NI HTS magnet which is actually manufactured.
Vacuum Insulation Panel (VIP) is an high energy efficient insulation system that facilitate slim but high insulation performance, based on based on a porous core material evacuated and encapsulated in a multi-barrier envelope. Although VIP has been on the market for decades now, it wasn't until recently that efforts have been initiated to propose a standard on aging testing. One of the issues regarding VIP is its durability and aging due to pressure and moisture dependent increase of the initial low thermal conductivity with time. It is hard to visually determine at an early stage. Recently, a method of analyzing the damage on the a material surface by applying image processing technology has been widely used. These techniques provide fast and accurate data with a non-destructive way. In this study, the surface VIP images were analyzed using the Harris corner detection algorithm. As a result, 171,333 corner points in the normal packaging were detected, whereas 32,895 of the defective packaging, which were less than the normal packaging. were detected. These results are considered to provide meaningful information for the determination of VIP condition.
Since Fukushima nuclear power plant (NPP) accident in 2011, the importance of research on various severe accident phenomena has been emphasized. Particularly, detailed analysis of combustion risk is necessary following the containment damage caused by combustion in the Fukushima accident. Many studies have been conducted to evaluate the risk of local hydrogen concentration increases and flame propagation using computational code. In particular, the potential for combustion by local hydrogen concentration in specific areas within the containment has been emphasized. In this study, the process of flame propagation generated inside a reactor core to containment during a loss of coolant accident (LOCA) was analyzed using MELCOR 2.1 code. Later in the LOCA scenario, it was expected that hydrogen combustion occurred inside the reactor core owing to oxygen inflow through the cold leg break area. The main driving force of the oxygen intrusion is the elevated containment pressure due to the molten corium-concrete interaction. The thermal and mechanical loads caused by the flame threaten the integrity of the containment. Additionally, the containment spray system effectiveness in this situation was evaluated because changes in pressure gradient and concentrations of flammable gases greatly affect the overall behavior of ignition and subsequent containment integrity.
