Purpose: Under the purpose of presenting the adequate remodeling period for the improvement of thermal insulation performance of external walls in deteriorated buildings, the change in external wall and residential environment problem(dew condensation) due to aged deterioration after the apartments were constructed in Korea were analyzed. Method: Temperature Difference Ratio Outside(TDRo) and Heat Flow Meter(HFM) were used as measurement methods to evaluate the thermal insulation performance of deteriorated buildings. For TDR evaluation, thermo-graphic camera was used to measure and analyze the surface temperature of external wall. Also, dew condensation evaluation was analyzed using the Temperature Difference Ratio Inside(TDRi). Result: As a result of analyzing thermal performance through TDRo, the first decline point of thermal insulation performance began after 14-16 years have passed since construction was completed, and after 20 years have passed the decline point of thermal insulation performance reappeared. As a result of analyzing U-value with HFM measurement method, the decline rate of external wall's thermal insulation performance is lower than 2% in average at around 5 years after completion, and 8.7% in average at 10-15 years, and over 10.2% in average at 20 years.

In this article, an analytical solution is presented for the steady-state axisymmetric thermal stress distributions in a composite hollow cylinder. The cylinder is composed of two isotropic and anisotropic materials which is subjected to the thermal boundary conditions of convective as well as radiative heating and cooling on the inner and outer surfaces, respectively. The solution of the temperature is obtained by means of Bessel functions and the thermal stresses are developed using Potential functions of displacement. Numerical results are derived for a cylinder which is similar to a gas turbine combustor and showed that the maximum temperature and thermal stresses (radial, hoop, axial) occurred in the middle point of cylinder and the values of thermal stresses in anisotropic cylinder are more than the isotropic cylinder. It is worthy to note that the values of the thermal conditions which estimated in this research, not to be presented in any other papers but these values are very accurate in calculation.

Globally there is an increasing need to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and increase the use of renewable sources of energy. The storage of solar thermal energy is a crucial aspect for implementing the solar energy for space heating in high latitudes, where solar insolation is high in summer and almost negligible in winter when the domestic heating demand is high. To use the solar heating during winter thermal energy storage is required. In this paper, equations representing the single U-tube heat exchanger are implemented in weak form edge elements in COMSOL Multiphysics(R) to speed up the calculation process for modelling of a borehole storage layout. Multiple borehole seasonal solar thermal energy storage scenarios are successfully simulated. After 5 years of operation, the most efficient simulated borehole pattern containing 168 borehole heat exchangers recovers 69% of the stored seasonal thermal energy and provides 971 MWh of thermal energy for heating in winter.
KAERI has been operating an integral effect test facility, ATLAS (Advanced Thermal-Hydraulic Test Loop for Accident Simulation), for accident simulations of advanced PWRs. Regarding integral effect tests, a database for major design basis accidents has been accumulated and a Domestic Standard Problem (DSP) exercise using the ATLAS has been proposed and successfully performed. The ATLAS DSP aims at the effective utilization of an integral effect database obtained from the ATLAS, the establishment of a cooperative framework in the domestic nuclear industry, better understanding of thermal hydraulic phenomena, and an investigation of the potential limitations of the existing best-estimate safety analysis codes. For the first ATLAS DSP exercise (DSP-01), integral effect test data for a 100% DVI line break accident of the APR1400 was selected by considering its technical importance and by incorporating comments from participants. Twelve domestic organizations joined in this DSP-01 exercise. Finally, ten of these organizations submitted their calculation results. This ATLAS DSP-01 exercise progressed as an open calculation; the integral effect test data was delivered to the participants prior to the code calculations. The MARS-KS was favored by most participants but the RELAP5/MOD3.3 code was also used by a few participants. This paper presents all the information of the DSP-01 exercise as well as the comparison results between the calculations and the test data. Lessons learned from the first DSP-01 are presented and recommendations for code users as well as for developers are suggested.

The rotor thermal analysis consists of determining the heat load to the rotor, sizing the cryogenic system, and ensuring that the HTS rotor will operate at the design goal of 30 K. The heat load to the rotor is due to heat conduction through the torque tubes, current leads, instrumentation. and radiation from the thermal shield and the end caps. Coil operating temperature is determined from the coil losses and the heat transport to the coolant. An FEM thermal conductivity model is developed to allow calculation of heat transport in HTS field coil according to the heat exchanger shape and coolant feeding method. The losses determine the size of the cryocooler.
We present results for transport properties of diatomic fluids by isothermal-isobaric (NpT) equilibrium molecular dynamics (EMD) simulations using Green-Kubo and Einstein formulas. As the molecular elongation of diatomic molecules increases from the spherical monatomic molecule, the diffusion coefficient increases, indicating that longish shape molecules diffuse more than spherical molecules, and the rotational diffusion coefficients are almost the same in the statistical error since random rotation decreases. The calculated translational viscosity decreases with the molecular elongation of diatomic molecule within statistical error bar, while the rotational viscosity increases. The total thermal conductivity decreases as the molecular elongation increases. This result of thermal conductivity for diatomic molecules by EMD simulations is again inconsistent with the earlier results of those by non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations even though the missing terms related to rotational degree of freedom into the Green-Kubo and Einstein formulas with regard to the calculation of thermal conductivity for molecular fluids are included.

The calculation of the wind field for resource assessment is done by using CFD Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes simulations performed with the commercial software WindSim. A new interface has been created to use mesoscale simulation data from a meteorological model as driving data for the simulations. This method makes it necessary to take into account thermal effects on the wind field to exploit the full potential of this method. The procedure for considering thermal effects in CFD wind field simulations as well as the impact of thermal effects on the wind field simulations is presented. Simulations for non-neutral atmospheric conditions with the developed method are consistent with expected behavior and show an improvement of simulation results compared with observations.
This paper presents the coupled analysis method to calculate the temperature rise in a gas insulated busbar (GIB). Harmonic eddy current analysis is carried out and the power losses are calculated in the conductor and enclosure tank. Two methods are presented to analyze the temperature distribution in the conductor and tank. One is to solve the thermal conduction problem with the equivalent natural convection coefficient and is applied to a single phase GIB. The other is to employ the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tool which directly solves the thermal-fluid equations and is applied to a three-phase GIB. The accuracy of both methods is verified by the comparison of the measured and calculated temperature in a single phase and three-phase GIB.

Thermal decomposition characteristics of ethyl methacrylate (EMA) and Styrene (St.) copolymer was investigated with synthesis at 8$0^{\circ}C$ in a continuous stirred tank reacto (CSTR) using toluene and benzoyl peroxide(BPO) as solvent and initiator, respectively. The thermal decomposition was considered to be side scission at below 30$0^{\circ}C$ and estimated 2nd-order reaction kinetics of EMA/St. copolymer. The activation energies of decomposition on this copolymers were in the ranges of 38-43 kcal/mol for EMA/St. and a good additivity rule was observed in each composition. The thermogravimetric trace curves agreed well with the theoretical calculation.

A new and efficient algorithm for the integration of the thermal-elasto-plastic constitutive equation is proposed. While it falls into the category of the return mapping method, the algorithm adopts the three point approximation of plastic corrector within one time increment step. The results of its application to a von Mises-type thermal-elasto-plastic model with combined hardening and temperature-dependent material properties show that the accurate iso-error maps are obtained for both angular and radial errors. The accuracy achieved is because the predicted stress increment in a single step calculation follows the exact value closely not only at the end of the step but also through the whole path. Also, the comparison of the computational time for the new and other algorithms shows that the new one is very efficient.
