In this research, optimum design of the combined solar collector, geothermal heat pump and thermal seasonal storage system for heating and cooling a sample greenhouse is studied. In order to optimize the system from technical point of view some new control strategies and functions resulting from important TRNSYS output diagrams are presented. Temperatures of ground, rock bed storage, outlet ground heat exchanger fluid and entering fluid to the evaporator specify our strategies. Optimal heat storage is done with maximum efficiency and minimum loss. Mean seasonal heating and cooling COPs of 4.92 and 7.14 are achieved in series mode as there is no need to start the heat pump sometimes. Furthermore, optimal parallel operation of the storage and the heat pump is studied by applying the same control strategies. Although the aforementioned system has higher mean seasonal heating and cooling COPs (4.96 and 7.18 respectively) and lower initial cost, it requires higher amounts of auxiliary energy either. Soil temperature around ground heat exchanger will also increase up to $1.5^{\circ}C$ after 2 years of operation as a result of seasonal storage. At the end, the optimum combined system is chosen by trade-off between technical and economic issues.
We have performed experiments to enhance the stratification in a storage tank in order to raise the collector efficiency and solar fraction in solar thermal systems. The storage tank with a spiral jacket in the side wall has a scroll-shaped heat exchanger coil added to the upper part. The performance was compared between only the side and upper-side heating part through simulation using TRNSYS under the same weather conditions and initial conditions. As a result, the upper-side heating has a 4.2% advantage in solar fraction, but almost no increase in collector efficiency.
A numerical study has been performed to investigate the thermal Performance of Solar heating system with baffle type of storage tank by using the commercial code TRNSYS. As a result, the solar fraction depends strongly on the efficiency and heat loss coefficient of solar collector as well as the heating capacity of house and the water temperature supplied to the shower. In addition, the solar fraction has been basically ranked to higher level in baffle type of storage tank than typical type of single storage tank for the range of operation condition.

A fundamental study on the harvest-type ice storage system applied ice making method in-water and its temperature characteristics in ice storage system was performed experimentally of the charge and discharge of cold. This paper is concerned with the development of a new method for making and separating ice and saving floated ice by installing an evaporation plate at in-water within a storage tank. In a conventional harvest-type ice storage system, a tank saves ice by separating a formed ice from an installed evaporation plate, which is located above an ice storage tank as an ice storage system. A new harvest-type method shows very good heat transfer efficiency than a convectional method. It is because the evaporation panel is directly contacted with water in a storage tank. Also, at a conventional system a circulating pump, a circulating water distributor and a piping are installed, but these components are not necessary in a new method. In this study two kinds of ice storage systems are experimentally investigated to study the thermal characteristics of ice storage tanks.
Thermal energy storage(TES) cooling system using cheaper electricity of off-peak time has been applied to relief a significant portion of the peak demand of electricity during the daytime in summer. Slurry ice type thermal energy storage cooling system is one kind of more efficient ice-thermal energy storage cooling system than Ice-on-Coil type or Encapsulated type TES cooling system, even though, which are more popular TES system. This study is experimented to observe flow pattern and formation of slurry ice in reversing flow to improve efficiency of heat transfer between fluid and freezing tube.
The synthesis of stearic acid composite phase change material (PCM) was investigated and the samples produced were characterized for use in latent heat storage, using a simple chemical sol-gel process. The PCM was encapsulated to tetraethyl orthosilicate by various preparation ratios of stearic acid (5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 50%). Fourier transformation infrared spectroscope (FT-IR) and X-Ray diffraction (XRD) were performed to determine the chemical structure and crystalloid phase of the microencapsulated PCM. SATEOS1 (5%) shows the best proportion for the PCM. With the presence of stearic acid as core materials and SiO2 as the supporting materials, it does not show any chemical reaction between both of them. SATEOS1 shows promising potential for thermal energy storage as it shows a better encapsulation efficiency and good thermal stability.
The formation of heat islands causes high energy demand for space cooling and peak cooling loads in conditioned buildings. High-temperature fluctuations on a building roof may cause mechanical stress and increase surface deterioration. Thermal energy storage (TES) systems using microencapsulated phase-change materials (MPCMs) have been recognized as one of the most advanced energy technologies for enhancing the energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings. In this study, we prepared MPCM/paint composites for mitigating the heat island effect and reducing peak temperature. In addition, we carried out thermal and physical analysis of prepared MPCM composite samples by means of SEM, FTIR spectroscopy, DSC, and TGA. Further, we evaluated the dynamic heat transfer performance of heat-storage tiles painted with 10 g of heat-storage paint. From the obtained results, we deduced that MPCM/hydrophilic paint composites are more applicable to various fields, including the building sector, than MPCM/hydrophobic paint composites. On the basis of SEM and FTIR spectroscopy results, we concluded that materials with hydrophilic properties are more compatible with MPCMs than those with hydrophobic properties. In addition, DSC analysis results revealed that MPCM/hydrophilic paint composites have better compatibility, higher latent heat capacity, and better thermal properties than other composites. TGA results showed that hydrophilic-paint-based composites have higher thermal durability than hydrophobic-paint-based composites. Finally, a lot of MPCM-loaded heat-storage tiles showed lower peak temperatures at all measurement positions.

The shape and array of ice capsules are very important factors in ice thermal storage system because the heat transfer rate of the system strongly depends upon them. In this paper, a new type of ice capsule composed of bar and ring module is proposed to increase the efficiency of the ice thermal storage system. To investigate the heat transfer rate of the proposed ice capsule, numerical analysis of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is performed to compare the proposed bar and ring system with the conventional ice capsules. It is shown that the ice capsule composed of bar and ring has a higher heat transfer rate and a low outlet temperature than the conventional ice capsules for various packing ratios and entrance velocities. Furthermore, it is found that the optimal entrance velocity exists between 0.005 m/s and 0.007 m/s from the present numerical analysis.
