Numerical Study with detailed chemistry has been conducted to investigate the flame structure and NOx formation characteristics in oxygen-enhanced$(CH_4/O_2-N_2)$ and oxygen-enhanced-EGR$(CH_4/O_2-CO_2)$ counter diffusion flame with various strain rates. A small amount of $N_2$ is included in oxygen-enhanced-EGR combustion, in order to consider the inevitable $N_2$ contamination by $O_2$ production process or air infiltration. The results are as follows : In $CH_4/O_2-CO_2$ flame it is very important to adopt a radiation effect precisely because the effect of radiation changes flame structure significantly. In $CH_4/O_2-N_2$ flame special strategy to minimize NO emission is needed because it is very sensitive to a small amount of $N_2$. Special attention is needed on CO emission by flame quenching, because of increased CO concentration. Spatial NO production rate of oxygen-enhanced combustion is different from that of air and oxygen-enhanced-EGR combustion in that thermal mechanism plays a role of destruction as well as production. In case $CH_4/O_2-CO_2$ flame contains more than 40% $CO_2$ it is possible to maintain the same EINO as that of $CH_4/Air$ flame with accomplishing higher temperature than that of $CH_4/Air$ flame. EINO decreases with increasing strain rate, and those effects are augmented in $CH_4/O_2$ flame. Complementary study is needed with extending the range of strain rate variation.
Nitrous oxide($N_2O$) concentration in the atmosphere has been constantly increased by the human activities with industrial growth after the industrial revolution. One of factors to increase $N_2O$ concentration in the atmosphere is the $N_2O$ emission caused by the combustion of marine fuel. Especially, a sulfur component included in marine fuel oils is known as increasing the $N_2O$ formation in diesel combustion. Form this point of view, $N_2O$ emission from a ship is not negligible. On the other hand, Exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) that have thermal, chemical and dilution effect is effective method for reducing the NOx emission. In this study, an author investigated $N_2O$ reduction by using EGR on a direct injection diesel engine. The test engine was a 4-stroke diesel engine with maximum output of 12 kW at 2600rpm, and operating condition of the engine was a fixed load of 75%. The experimental oil was a blend-fuel that were adjusted with sulfur ratio of 3.5%, and EGR ratio of 0%, 10%, 20% and 30%. In conclusion, diesel fuel that contained 3.5% sulfur component increased $SO_2$ emission in exhaust gas, and increment of EGR ratio reduced NO emission. Moreover, $N_2O$ emission was decreased as over 50% at EGR ratio of 10% and reduced 100% at EGR ratio of 30% compared with $N_2O$ emission of 0% EGR ratio.

Diesel engines introduce only air into the cylinder, and the air is high lycompressed. Fuel is directly injected into the combustion chamber in high temperature and pressure. Therefore diesel engines have high thermal efficiency because of the high compression ratio, while having high level of particulate matter and nitrogen oxide emissions because of the direct fuel injection. Many technologies have been developed to reduce particulate matter and nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines. One of the technologies is hydrogen fuel introduced into the combustion chamber with diesel fuel. In this thesis tiny amount of hydrogen is supplied into the combustion chamber in order to enhance the combustion performance. The engine, in which hydrogen is introduced, is tested. There are 20 test conditions given as 5 torque values of 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, 0%, and 4 engine speeds of 700rpm, 1000rpm, 1500rpm and 2000rpm for the two cases with or without hydrogen addition. Maximum torques and Idle torques at each engine speed are measured, then the torque values are divided into 4 levels with 25% increasing step. The result shows that the fuel consumption, smoke, CO are reduced while the NOx emission is slightly increased, and the hydrogen addition has not a great effect on the performance at low loads but a great effect at a maximum load.

Container vessels continue to grow in size, led by global shipowner. Large ships can be loaded more cargo at a time, reducing the cost of transportation per teu. this eventually leads to economies of sale, in which the production cost per unit decreases with increasing output. in accordance with the 70th Convention of the Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization, as of January 1, 2020, MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 14.1.3 will be effective. All vessels must be meet these criteria to reduce Sox emissions and reduce NOx emissions by reducing the content of manned sulfur oxides from 3.5% to less than 0.5%, otherwise IACS Member States Entry to the port is denied. in order to do that need to LNG storage tank. in this study characteristic of the material after line heating (600℃,700℃,800℃,900℃) of 9% Ni steel used in the manufacture of LNG fuel tank of ship were verified using by mechanical test. In the heating method by line heating. The initial properties of steel are changed by variables such as temperature, time, speed. The experimental data of line heating presented in this paper confirmed that the initial change of 9% Ni steel could be minimized.
Due to the oxygen contents in biodiesel, application of the fuel to compression ignition engines has significant advantages in terms of lowering PM formation in the combustion chamber. In recent days, considerable studies have been performed to extend the low temperature combustion regime in diesel engines by applying biodiesel fuel. In this work, low temperature combustion characteristics of biodiesel blends in dilution controlled regime were investigated at a fixed engine operating condition in a single cylinder diesel engine, and the comparisons of engine performances and emission characteristics between biodiesel and conventional diesel fuel were carried out. Results show that low temperature combustion can be achieved at $O_2$ concentration of around 7~8% for both biodiesel and diesel fuels. Especially, by use of biodiesel, noticeable reduction (maximum 50% of smoke was observed at low and middle loads compared to conventional diesel fuel. In addition, THC(total hydrocarbon) and CO(Carbon monoxide) emissions decreased by substantial amounts for biodiesel fuel. Results also indicate that even though about 10% loss of engine power as well as 14% increase of fuel consumption rate was observed due to lower LHV(lower heating value) of biodiesel, thermal efficiencies for biodiesel fuel were slightly elevated because of power recovery phenomenon.
With the tightening of environmental regulations (i.e., IMO Tier III), natural gas (NG) has been spotlighted as an eco-friendly fuel with few air pollutants other than nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx). For reasons of economic efficiency, it is mainly stored and transported in a liquid state at $-163^{\circ}C$, which is a cryogenic temperature, using a liquefied gas storage tank. Accordingly, it is necessary to reduce the boil-off gas (BOG) occurrence due to the heat flow according to the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the storage tank. Therefore, in this study, a BOG measurement test on an independent-type storage tank made up of SUS304L was carried out. The test results showed the tendency for BOG occurrence according to the temperature under different filling ratios.

Orimulsion, a bitumen-in-water emulsified fuel, has been used throughout the world as a substitute fuel for heavy oil and coal. Orimulsion has relatively high levels of sulfur, nickel, and vanadium, compared to other fuel oils and coals, and has been the subject of much debate regarding the environmental impacts. In Korea, Y power plant has operated boilers with Orimulsion as a fuel, and they has some drawbacks during the plant operation, such as plume opacity. In this study, we investigated the cause of formation mechanism and factors for the plume opacity by investigating the operation data, and measuring the particle size distribution at EP(Electrostatic Precipitator), FGD(Fuel Gas Desulfurization) and TMS(Telecommunications Management System) units. Resulting data showed the primary particles below 1 ${\mu}m$ formed were regrown by the recombination of $SO_3$ in wet-limestone FGD process, and thus the secondary particles are induced to cause the plume opacity.
Thermal NOx is generated in a high temperature environment in a combustion facilities. Exhaust gas recirculation method is widely used among various methods for reducing nitrogen oxides in combustion devices. In the present study, the computational fluid dynamic analysis was accomplished to elucidate the cold flow characteristics in the flue gas recirculation burner with both outlets opening. Because the reciculation pipes is installed toward the tangential direction, the swirling flow is formulated in the burner and the phenomenon of the reverse flow creation is detected at the center area of circular burner. We are confirmed that this is the similar trend with the burner with one side outlet closed. From the present study, it was seen that the recirculated inflow from both recirculated burner outlets increased by about 5% compared to the burner with one side outlet opening. At the outlet located at the exhaust gas recirculation pipe inlet(gas exit 1), the inlet flow was formed in the entire region. At the opposite outlet(gas exit 2), the total flow was discharged, but the center part of the burner was observed to have a reverse flow. The flow rate at the gas exit 2 was 3 ~ 5 times larger than the flow rate at the gas exit 1.

High thermal efficiency and the ability to use various types of fuel are a few of the many advantages of diesel engines. However, a major disadvantage is that their exhaust emissions are more harmful to humans and the environment than that of conventional engine. Consequently, the provisions of the international emissions standards for diesel engine equipped passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and ships have become more stringent. These standards include the EU Euro 6, the IMO MEPC Tier 3, and the US EPA Tier 4. Ryu et al. published a study that applied fuel additives to two-stroke diesel engines. In this study, a four-stroke diesel engine using diesel oil for a generator is utilized as the test subject, and an experiment is performed to verify whether fuel additive can be used to improve performance and exhaust emissions. In addition, this experimental study presents research results for the application of fuel additives in both two-stroke and four-stroke diesel engines. The experimental results were compared and analyzed by placing an oil-soluble calcium-based organometallic compound in diesel oil. The results confirmed that the addition of fuel additive improved the performance (fuel consumption rate, exhaust gas temperature) and exhaust emissions (NOx, CO) of the diesel engine.
In this study, The full load test and WHTC mode test were performed to examine the effect on a heavy duty natural gas engine according to the type of standard gas for certification to check engine performance and exhaust characteristics. Two types of standard gas (Gr, G23) and commercially available natural gas were applied as the fuel used. As a result of the test results of three natural gases with different fuel compositions, G23 with a high nitrogen content was inferior in torque, fuel consumption, and thermal efficiency conditions. In addition, when evaluated in the WHTC mode it was possible to obtain a result that satisfies the EURO VI regulation. However, compared to the other two fuels, the emission characteristics of G23 decreased CO2 and CO, but increased CH4, NOx and PN emissions.
