Natural convection of a fluid with intermediate Prand시 number of Pr=0.2 in a horizontal annulus is considered, and the bifurcation phenomena and chaotic flows are numerically investigated. The unsteady two-dimensional streamfunction-vorticity equation is solved with finite difference method. The steady downward flow with two counter-rotating eddies bifurcates to a simple periodic flow with a fundamental frequency. And afterwards, second Hopf bifurcation occurs, and a quasi-periodic flow with two incommensurable frequencies appears. However, a new time-periodic flow is established after experiencing quasi-periodic states. As Rayleigh number is increased further, the chaotic flow regime is reached after a sequence of successive Hopf bifurcation to quasi-periodic and chaotic flow regimes. A scenario similar to the Ruelle-Takens-Newhouse scenario of the onset of chaos is observed.
In general industry, TFM(turbine flow meters) as measuring instruments having high reliability are widely used in the trade of petroleum and in the measurement of tap water and hot water. The TFM is performed calibration for using in the field and is mainly calibrated at room temperature. Since accuracy of TFM depends on Reynolds number of fluid, TFM is calibrated at same Reynolds number by changing flow rate. Furthermore, the TFM using a fluid of high temperature should have considered for other factors such as the thermal expansion of the parts and characteristics change is unknown changes in the turbine flow meter accordingly. In this paper, two turbine flowmeter are experimentally studied about characteristics change using the facilities which can change fluid temperature from 6 degree celsius to 90 degree celsius. As a result, the turbine flow meter can be calibrated to minimize the error characteristic at a similar temperature and the actual temperature.

An analytical characterization is presented on the transient heat transfer by an oscillating flow through a porous slab. Based on a two-equation model, analytic solutions are obtained for both the fluid and solid temperature variations. Two parameters are identified as the Stanton number for the internal heat exchange and the ratio of the thermal capacities between the solid and fluid phases. The heat transfer characteristics are shown to be classified into four regimes according to the two parameters and physical interpretation is presented on the particular heat transfer processes within each regime. In addition, the condition for the local thermal equilibrium between the phases is examined and the relevant criterion is suggested.
This paper is a continuation of the authors' previous work on spiral coil heat exchangers. In the present study, the heat transfer characteristics and the performance of a spirally coiled finned tube heat exchanger under wet-surface conditions are theoretically and experimentally investigated. The test section is a spiral-coil heat exchanger which consists of a steel shell and a spirally coiled tube unit. The spiral-coil unit consists of six layers of concentric spirally coiled finned tubes. Each tube is fabricated by bending a 9.6 mm diameter straight copper tube into a spiral-coil of four turns. The innermost and outermost diameters of each spiral-coil are 145.0 and 350.4 mm, respectively. Aluminium crimped spiral fins with thickness of 0.6 mm and outer diameter of 28.4 mm are placed around the tube. The edge of fin at the inner diameter is corrugated. Air and water are used as working fluids in shell side and tube side, respectively. The experiments are done under dehumidifying conditions. A mathematical model based on the conservation of mass and energy is developed to simulate the flow and heat transfer characteristics of working fluids flowing through the heat exchanger. The results obtained from the present model show reasonable agreement with the experimental data.

The most numerical investigations of the thermal-hydraulic phenomena following the loss of the residual heat removal capability during the mid-loop operation of the pressurized water reactor were performed according to simplifications and are not sufficiently accurate. To perform more accurate and more reliable predictions of thermal-hydraulic accidents in a nuclear power plant using computational fluid dynamics codes, a more detailed methodology is needed. Modelling results identified that thermal stratification and natural convection are observed. Temperatures of lower monitoring points remain low, while temperatures of upper monitoring points increase over time. The water in the heated region, in the upper unheated region and the pipe region was well mixed due to natural convection, meanwhile, there is no natural convection in the lower unheated region. Water temperature in the pipe region increased after a certain time delay due to circulation of flow induced by natural convection in the heated and upper unheated regions. The modelling results correspond to the experimental data. The developed computational fluid dynamics methodology could be applied for modelling of two-component single/two-phase natural convection and thermal stratification phenomena during the mid-loop operation of the pressurized water reactor or other nuclear and non-nuclear installations at similar conditions.

In the present investigation, experimental studies were conducted on the fire suppression performance of twin-fluid water mist spray which is subjected to thermal radiation in a closed space. Downward-directed water-mist sprays, interacting with an under kerosene pool fire, were investigated in a test facility. The mass mean diameter of water-mist droplets were measured by PMAS under various flow conditions. The developed twin-fluid water mit spray nozzle satisfied the criteria of NFPA 750, Class 1. The mechanism of fire suppression by fine water mist was concluded to be the cooling of the fire surface which leads to the suppression of fuel evaporation. It was proved that the automatic twin-fluid water mist spray system under lower pressures could be applied to an industrial facilities.

The temperature dependence of the viscosity was determined for an electrorheological(ER) fluid consisting of 35 weight% zeolite particles in hydraulic oil 46cSt. Thermal activation analysis were performed by changing the ER fluid's temperature from -1$0^{\circ}C$ to 5$0^{\circ}C$ at fixed electric field. According to the analysis, the activation energy for flow was about 79.64kJ/mole at E=0kV/mm. Generally, the hydraulic oil 46cSt will be operated at the temperature of about 4$0^{\circ}C$, the ER fluid's electric field dependence of viscosities were investigated at this temperature. also, the influence of adding the dispersant(Carbopl 940) on electrorheological effect of the ER fluid was discussed.
The dish type solar thermal concentrating system can collect the solar energy above $800^{\circ}C$. It has a concentration ratio of 800 and total reflector area of $49m^2$. To operate solar receivers at high temperature, the optimum aperture size is obtained from a comparison between maximizing absorbed energy and minimizing thermal losses. The system efficiency is defined as the absorbed energy by working fluid in receiver divided by the energy coming from the concentrator. We find that system efficiency is stable in case of flow rate of above 6lpm. The system efficiency are 64.9% and 65.7% in flow rate of 6lpm and 8lpm, respectively. The thermal performance showed that the maximum efficiency and the factor of thermal loss in flow rate of 8lpm are 68% and 0.0508.
9 nuclear power plants are presently in operation in Korea. They produce radioactive waste of which the most long-lived radioactive elements need to be safely stored for hundreds of thousands of years, isolated from humanity and the environment. The safe disposal of high level radioactive waste in mined cavities requires knowledge of the mechanical. thermal and fluid flow characteristics of rock as perturbed by a thermal pulse The literature review was performed to assemble data on the following properties: modulus tensile strength compressive strength thermal expansion specific heat, thermal conductivity thermal diffusivity and permeability.

The working of diesel particulate filters(DPF) needs to periodically burn soot that has been accumulated during loading of the DPF. The prediction of the relation between an uniformity of gas velocity and soot regeneration efficiency with simulations helps to make design decisions and to shorten the development process. This work presents a comprehensive combined 'DOC+CDPF' model approach. All relevant behaviors of flow fluid are studied in a 3D model. The obtained flow fields in the front of DPF is used for 1D simulation for the prediction of the thermal behavior and regeneration efficiency of CDPF. Validation of the present simulation are performed for the axial and radial direction temperature profile and shows goods agreement with experimental data. The coupled simulation of 3D and 1D shows their impact on the overall regeneration efficiency. It is found that the flow non-uniformity may cause severe radial temperature gradient, resulting in degrading regeneration efficiency.
